Variax magnetics, near silent output

I was going to post this in the variax forum but I don't think it gets much attention! Iv never used the mags on my JTV69s but bought an ebow today. No matter how I set up the Helix with the inputs all I get is a hissy muted sound, probably about 1/5th of the modelled output. This happens whether using the jack or VDI cable not just on Helix but a regular amp with the standard jack 😕 Wobbling and pushing the model selector seems to do something but the hiss is terribe. Has anyone experienced this or can anyone point me in the right direction.

sounds like something is wrong, but I don't know what. I have a Variax Standard, and the magnetic pickups have about the same level and noise as my Mexican Strat. Are you getting a normal input into your 1/4" Helix inputs from other guitars?

I've got a support ticket open on my new JTV69, but really need to ship it off soon.  It seems like bad contact in the tone pot in mags mode.  It pops and cuts in/out when you wiggle it.  It will work if you push it just the right way.  Otherwise, it is near silent as well.

Its good to know how to do a little DIY maintenance on the Variax's. I just replaced some piezos on my trusty Variax Acoustic 700, and its good again. I'll have to open up my Standard sometime and look around in there. Glad you got it working!

That is the exact problem I had! Pull the model knob off and spray some contact cleaner in the hole. Give it a good fee pushes up and down and twist it about a bit. If that doesn't work take the scratch plate off and give model knob connections and circuit board a good spray and repeat the twisty pushy thing! It's worked for me. Let me know how you get along.
