BlueViolince
Just got my Helix in. Is there a trick to setting up instant MIDI commands? I have the mode, correct outgoing channel, and PC message set, but nothing happens after I save and re-select the preset. Using a Whammy 5 on MIDI channel 3. Global settings have Omni channel and MIDI Thru selected.
phil_m
Should be all there is to it, really. I know this is a dumb question, but have you changed presets on the Whammy so you know that the PC it's supposed to be receiving is for a different preset than what it's on? BlueViolince
Yep. I have a spreadsheet for all the pc and cc commands, so I know what's supposed to be happening when it receives them. I'm just trying to transfer my MIDI setup from the HD500, where everything worked perfectly.
BlueViolince
I've checked against the manual several times, I've tried different channels and different commands. I've swapped out MIDI cables, rebooted, and it still doesn't work. Next I will hook the Helix up to MIDI monitor to see if it's actually sending out any data. tedulrich
Just grasping at straws here as I'm a bit of a MIDI noob, but are you using instant commands set up in command center? If so, are is the global setting for MIDI PC send set to off? I'm not entirely sure it works that way, but if the PC send function is on could there be conflicting messages going out every time you select the preset? Something to try at least. tedulrich
I just checked through a MIDI monitor app, if the PC send function is on, that appears to be the LAST message in the chain sent when you activate the preset, and could potentially misdirect a device downstream as your "instant" message is being followed up by the automated preset change message from Helix. Hope that helps!

Switching it off fixed my issues with recalling the PCs

Switching it off fixed my issues with recalling the PCs I did try that, both ways. When you are editing the instant commands, should it be sending out MIDI messages as you change values, or do you need to re-select the patch? Again, I've tried this both ways, with no results. tedulrich
It sends when you re-select the patch. I get nothing in my MIDI monitor until I do so. What PC message are you sending?
BlueViolince
On channel 3, PC 063, and the next one is CC11:000 on the same channel.
BlueViolince
Update: this may be a totally different issue than I thought. After a few times restarting it, it now works. On the other hand, my fx loop isn't following the enabled/bypassed state as shown on the screen, nor does the fx loop mix parameter have any effect. At 50% or 0% mix, the loop passes full signal, wide open, and the only way to bypass it is to turn off the pedal. What could be happening here? tedulrich
The loop issue is a bit over my head, but on the MIDI side, is there any other devices connected (including USB), and is the Classic/Chords switch on the Whammy set for the mode corresponding to the patch? Just trying to knock out the simple and easy to overlook stuff.
BlueViolince
Yeah, no I've eliminated the Whammy as source of the issue. Now my Helix display is disagreeing with its hardware.
