Line 6 Edit Java Error on macOS High Sierra

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I'm a Pod 2.0 user. I recently passed from El Capitan to macOS High Sierra and, after reinstalling the Line6 Edit, any time I hit the keyboard, the following error comes out:

Unhandled exception in AWT dispatch thread

Type: java.lang.RuntimeException

Message: Non-Java exception raised, not handled! (Original problem: Deprecated in 10_12... DO NOT EVER USE CGSEventRecord directly. Bad things, man.... bad things.)

This error withholds me from changing patch names, which is obviously a pretty big hindrance, since I'm preparing for a gig on monday. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling various versions of Java Runtime Environment, to no avail.

Anyone else run into this issue and solved it?

Thanks,

Zurdyo

Hi @psarkissian Can you be more specific about your earlier post where you wrote "Goes up to Windows 8, and goes up to Mac OS-X Yosemite"?

Are you suggesting that there is no version of Line 6 Edit for Mac OS beyond Yosemite?  What about customers who want to use their Line 6 products with a modern Macintosh?  Yoseimite was released four years ago, and there have been four versions of Mac OS since then (El Capitain, Sierra, High Sierra, and Mojave).  Thanks -- really looking forward to a workaround on this one.

That is what is on the Downloads page when selecting POD XT, L6 Edit and the OS selection.

That is as high as it goes.

What about people using new versions of the operating system? How about releasing the source code?

Sort of a workaround - you can still edit tunings, just can't change names (get error when you touch keyboard),  I opened up a different program (used Sticky notes) and typed new name and then copied it (cmd+C).  When you go to workbench to paste it (cmd+V) you will still get the error message.  However, keep holding cmd and press continue on error message.  The name will still be highlighted and when you press V (while still holding cmd) it will paste the new name.  You can then send it to Variax.  Still messing around with it, but thought I would pass this along.

Users of other Line 6 legacy products (e.g. Variax 300-700) encounter similar issues.  32-bit software and Java 6 are no longer supported by macOS.

The workaround for me amounts  to installing Sierra (NOT High Sierra) on another drive or partition and booting that for legacy Line 6 sessions,

as described here:  https://line6.com/support/topic/46770-pod-hd300-edit-on-osx-mojave/?do=findComment&comment=297626

I know not whether this will work for Macs released after Sierra..

Anyone at Line 6 reading these posts?  I've got the same issue.  I was finally able to find Line 6 Edit Software on an old hard drive I have.   But I cannot find any info about he FIX for this problem.  WHICH JAVA VERSION DO I NEED TO INSTALL? Some info I read says only install version 5 and some say 6.  I have had issues installing Line 6 software before and just do not want to have any problems with my main recording computer.

Bottom Line.  I need the Edit Software to manage my POD xt Pro and patch editing for my busy Producer's studio. Otherwise my POD is useless to me. I don't know if it will get anyones attention at line 6 or not, but do I need to start shopping for a different Guitar Modeler?  Seems like there are quite a few having this same issue.  And ready to jump ship.  Seems like LINE 6 might be  interested to know they are losing alot of customers. Maybe they don't care?

How much is any company going to care about a product that was discontinued more than 15 years ago?
