AntonisPat
Hi all This might sound as a noob question (but then again I am one :) ).. I'm trying to understand how the SV series (MKII 112 in my case) is set up.. Is it : - Bogner preamp tubes --> line6 effects /sims --> bogner power amp tubes? - Line 6 effects/sims ---> preamp ---> power amp or something else ? Also is there a way to overlap the modeling part and just use the MKII as a tube preamp/amp? I'm guessing that if I just use the "power amp in" , it bypasses the preamp/modeling sections (is this true?) but is there a way to also use the preamp section too?? ...btw, this is pure curiosity, I'm very happy with the amp sounds! Thanx in advance! :)
napynap
AntonisPat, It's difficult to definitively answer your question, (which I feel is more than just a curiosity for you), but with the following info, maybe it will help you find an answer. Resources: Line6 Spider Valve Advanced Guide: http://line6.com/support/manuals/sv112 Preamp Out: Use the Preamp Out to send your Spider Valve MkII DSP Amp and FX modeling output to an external power amp, guitar amp or FX device. Power Amp In – Plug into your Bogner-designed power amp here. ...for example, driving the all-tube power amp. AntonisPat
Hello napynap, thank you for your answer! Actually it is a curiosity question, last week I had a gigg with my band in a small festival and the guitarist from another band came along and we started another discussion on amps and guitars. He was quite interersted in my 112 MKII and asked a few questions on pretty much what I'm asking, but all I knew to answer back is what's mentioned in the manual..I felt a bit bad not knowing so here I am! "The first controls on the back are Power Amp In and Preamp Out. Preamp Out grabs the signal after the Line 6 modeling pre but before the Bogner-designed tube pre." (from : Line 6 Spider Valve MKII 1x12 Combo Amp Review) Does that mean that Preamp out gets the modeling but NOT the preamp tubes??? So if I connect something as effects send-return there it will be Modeling->effect loop->preamp tubes->power amp tubes? Again sorry fi I ask something stupid but Im quite new in trying to understand how amps and effects work, all I know is from a few articles I've read! AntonisPat
Ok so from what I understand its modeling --> preamp --> poweramp. Thanx guys!
AntonisPat
Hello all again Since you are so kind, I have another question :) : I want to play at low volumes at home, but I still want to push the valves as much as possible to get that nice tone they give. To do that, is it better to play at a moderate channel volume and very low master or low channel and moderate master?? To make the question a bit more general, does the channel volume comes from the modeling and the master from the preamp/amp section or does the channel volume affect the preamp as well ? I'm guessing that the power amp part is 100% master volume, right? Thanx again!
OmeRoon
I think this is what you are looking for:http://koch-amps.com/dt_portfolio/loadbox-ii-power-attenuator-speaker-simulator/ Also check out this thread as it's more or less the same question:http://line6.com/support/topic/2697-is-there-a-way-ie-different-tubes-etc-to-minimize-master-volume-on-mkii-212/
AntonisPat
Hey OmeRoon, thanx, but thats a 300-400$ extra cost which I'd rather not spend.. I also have the Line 6 UX2 sound card and mostly play through this at home, but I was wondering if I could do something to use the amp too.. The actual question here is which would sound better : high channel volume and low master or low channel and moderate master? Does the channel volume affect the tube section (I'm guessing preamp??) or is it just a master volume matter? What I'm trying to do is take the most out of the tubes at low volumes.. tscoolberth
and if you have the Strymon ... tubes-> modeling->pre-amp tubes->power amp tubes. I've been tending on having the Strymon pre-amp maxxed to minimize the on board gain :)
