alekseylopez
I was in rehearsals the other day with my Helix expecting to go straight into a desk but the sound engineer wasn't around to get things running, however there was a line 6 spider bogner collab amp on the stage so I decided to plug into it. I then realised it had a Preamp out and power amp in section on the back. I think i plugged into the Preamp hoping to bypass the amp completely and just for the helix to be amplified. It actually sounded great without turning my amp sims off. This has confused me though! Did the amp just become a speaker or would it have coloured the sound? rd2rk
Rule #1 of sound design: There are no rules! If it sounds good, go with it!
j_hotch
Usually, plugging directly into the preamp-in will bypass the amp's tone stack. So you may have been hearing just the power amp and the speaker at work, there. I used to run a HD500x this way, into a Hiwatt combo amp. I also left the amp Sims on, to good effect. Good luck! Actually, when you plug into the amp's INPUT, that's the preamp. When you plug into the amp's RETURN, that bypasses the preamp. But, like I said, if it sounds good, it's right! j_hotch
Sorry: when I said preamp-in I meant effects-loop-return. Tomato / tomahto.
