Updating a used Helix... No previous version of HX edit on my computer

I bought a used Helix rack and controller on reverb.  Everything works great.

I have not plugged it into my computer yet, only used it with my guitar.  When it boots up it says version 2.71.

So, since I've never had an earlier version of HX edit.... Do I still have to find an old version of it, then back everything up, then install 2.8?

I really don't need to do a backup since I don't have anything saved.  I've made one preset and placed it in a setlist just to get a feel.  Took 10 min, I don't feel the need to back that up.  But does it need to be backed up for another reason?  If 2.8 resets it to factory... No big deal.....I just don't want to make it hang up on install like some people are experiencing.

Just download HX Edit 2.80. It's still worth creating a backup even if you don't care about your presets because the backup will save your Global Settings. After you update, you can restore from backup and choose only to restore the Global Settings then.

No need if you've nothing saved.

Update tips:

Make sure( if you're using Windows) to Change your power settings to MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE so the USB ports don't go to sleep during the update.

Set Processor Scheduling to Background Services.

If you don't already have one, set up an L6 account, you'll need to Log in when you run the Updater.

Download and Run Helix Edit v2.80.

Make sure that HX Edit (and ALL OTHER PROGRAMS) is CLOSED before running the Updater.

Follow the directions on the Download page and in the Updater.

Have Fun!

Oh, yeah, turn off wireless.

This shouldn't be necessary. Actually, Updater needs to connect to the internet to complete the update, so if you're using wireless to connect to the internet, you have to leave it on.

Sorry, being old-school (I make my own Ethernet cables and still have a tester from techie days), I just assume everybody has a just-in-case wire.

It's probably OK (I updated my Stomp over wireless, my floor on a wire, no problems either way), but considering all the folks having problems with the update hanging, eliminate as many variables as possible I say!

Particularly since you are starting from scratch make sure to do the global reset to get the latest Factory and Templates setlists. They are the final steps in the upgrade instructions.
