Quite a heavy handed player and usually tuned to Eb and was having issues with high E popping of the nut. Thought i would stick a string tree on to see if it made a difference. One gig in and all good so far. It may very well be Hawthorn but thought i'd share anyway.

Just a note, the screws that came with the string trees are rubbish and both broke while I was trying to fit it.

Because James Tyler thinks he can make it perfect without a string tree, fact is, he can't.

I've never had any problem not having the string tree. Haven't really even thought about it, to be honest.

The headstock has enough angle that it really doesn't need a string tree.  If you want one that's fine though.

Old thread here, but new JTV owner.  No, the headstock doesn't have enough angle.  I've played two JTV-69's and both of them have a warbling/buzzing sound when played with open strings.  If you put some tension behind the nut, the warbling goes away.
