JaPPa
Hi everyone! I just received my Line 6 Variax Standard today and when I was trying it out with the magnetic pickups I heard a resonating/high chime sound, especially when playing the D chord. I've tried to lower the magnetic pickups but it is still there, so it's not string pull I guess. When enabling the modeling the same can be heard but it's much harder to detect but it is still there. Is this normal is the guitar bad, or the setup?
psarkissian
Probably the set-up, fret buzz, string nut slots or pick-up height to the strings,... needs to be checked out by a Line 6 authorized service tech. Did you change string gauges on it?
JaPPa
Lowering the pickups did not make a difference. The guitar was setup by a authorized Line 6 dealer. The action is pretty high tho and some fret buz can be heard sometimes but not when playing the D chord. It can be heard when unplugged, it sounds like it's coming from inside of the guitar. psarkissian
Yes,... D'Addario Xl-110, 10-gauge set is factory. Sounds like something with the set-up. Line 6 dealer is okay, Line 6 authorized service tech is better.
JaPPa
I included a recording of the sound. It almost sounds like a spring reverb. No effects, straight from the amp (Vox AC4) into iPhone Garageband recording. Hope this can clarify it better if it is a setup-up problem or a defect. psarkissian
Sounds like it's mechanical in nature, a secondary vibration, from the string nut or bridge end. Something is fret rubbing somewhere. Should be gone over by a Line 6 authorized service center with the proper service info. Non Line 6 techs won't have the correct set-up info. There can be interactions between piezo and magnetic pick-ups that non Line 6 techs would not know to be aware of. Set-up needs to be done to Line 6 specs.
