How to A/B two separate inputs before fx chain..

Hi guys.
I’m tearing my hair out here so if anyone can help I’d be most appreciative.
Ok so... I’m a newbie to helix having only used it as a glorified stomp box up to this point.
For my show work I want to have two instruments going into the helix LT.
1) my electric bass into the guitar input
2) my upright bass into another input (fx return?)
I want to be able to a/b switch between these whilst keeping the same set of stomps / same pre amp etc available. Just muting the other input when I switch.

So... for example. Let’s say -
I have a pitch shifter
Distortion
Flanger for example.

How do I set a foot switch to mute the electric bass and switch to the upright whilst keeping my other stomp settings as is ie.. if I have the pitch shifter active at +2 I want it to stay like that and just mute the electric whilst activating the upright input. Then when I’m done and want to switch back I just tap the same foot switch.

Is this something Helix can do? If so, can anyone tell me how?

Or should I just buy a Boss A/B switch and go from that into the Helix to save the headache?

Thanks in advance and sorry for being rubbish at this stuff!!

You could set up a dual path and have the paths merge together, but I think the easiest thing would be to put a Return block as the first thing in your preset. When you’re playing the bass, then simply turn on the Return block (set the Mix to 100 so there’s no bleed from the Guitar In). Then when playing guitar, just bypass the Return block.

That just adds more headache and an extra cable :) One of my favorite features of the Helix is it's I/O flexibility.

phil_m provides the easy answer above. Just insert/use a return block as per his instructions!
