POD Go Effects Loop Jumper Cable for Clean Boost

Before I switched to Line 6 with a Helix LT, I had a Headrush Pedalboard.   I just bought a Pod Go to have a smaller rig.  So far, I am having trouble replicating the tones I use on the LT.   I definitely use customized input levels on the LT which don't appear to be available on the GO.   There was a trick that I used on the headrush where I would put a jumper cable between the input and the output of the effects loop.  Then I would boost the return.   This gave me an instant clean boost without the need for a pedal.   This would be great on the Pod Go, but I tried to get this to work on Pod Go unsuccessfully.   Has anyone else tried this?

When you say clean boost are you referring purely to a volume boost, or are you talking about adding gain?

If the former, it's easy to set up a level boost e.g. for lead solos, via the main out settings. I regularly set up patches like this e.g. with a 3dB lead clean volume boost. And you can copy the block to as many patches as you want regardless of how many fx blocks you've used. 

 

If you want a gain boost as well as a volume boost, you can kick in additional amp gain, with any amp EQ variation you want, without having to use one of the 4 user blocks. You can also use the EQ for clean or gain boost depending on whether you use the EQ before or after the amp model. 

 

I have 2 external momentary pedals in FS7/FS8 - by setting e.g. FS7 as  clean boost and FS8 as a gain boost, I can kick these in without having to switch to stomp mode. And unlike a jumper lead, I can set the clean or gain boost exactly as I want it. 

 

You can do the same thing with a distortion model; instead of adding a 2nd distortion, just set a footswitch to kick in any combination of distortion pedal parameter changes you want e.g. gain, volume,  tone etc. via a single footswitch press. You can even change your reverb and/or delay and/or EQ or amp parameters, all via assignment to a single footswitch.

@billjolly the "jumper trick" can work on POD Go. Just be sure to set FX return type to "Return" and not "Aux In" in the global settings. Also, be sure the loop is set at 100% mix and placed before the amp.

It's strange that they just didn't add an input volume on the input node...  Also too bad that you can't set the volume pedal to go over 100%.

 

You can also place the EQ at the start of your chain and boost the signal from your 'free' always on EQ block.  Amps also typically have EQ settings so you can still get some EQ'ing with your amp, but yeah nothing could stop you using snapshots or that function where you attach values to buttons and have a button to do +10dB bass, +10dB mids, etc., and use EQ as a free boost.
