Can't Change Amp Channels Using 4CM Mode on Hx Effects

Hi all -

New HX FX user and having problems - I've got a Marshall JCM2000. I've inserted an FX send/return block after my OD blocks as recommended for 4cm. What I'm noticing is that when I full bypass the Effects, I can't "get back" to my amp's native sounds. The channel switch LED will change color, but the tone doesn't change at all - and it's not the amp's tone. It's this weird, loud honky tone that doesn't respond to changing Volume, Gain, etc. I have checked the Global Settings to ensure that my sends/returns are in "Line" mode, but I just don't see a way to bypass the FX and use just my amp's tone. I've also noticed that this is the same tone that happens when I select a blank "New Preset". Is there any possible way to use 4cm and still be able to retain my amp's native tone when I want it, or is it an either/or with 4cm? If so, there's really no sense in using any of the OD or Boosts because it would be relegated to the FX loop alone. Hope there's a solution to this. Thanks!

In order for 4cm to work, you need to have an FX Loop Block in the signal chain. Otherwise the signal goes straight to the FX Return of the amp without passing through the Marshall Preamp and back to the HXFX.

Right, as I described in the post I've already done that. I have my FX Loop Block after my OD blocks. The whole preset sounds great, but I am unable to bypass the HX Effects and get back to that Marshall tone. As I describe in my post, the same result happens when I go to an empty "New Preset".

Are you trying to use the Bypass All function? That doesn’t work with the 4CM. It bypasses everything, including the FX Loop block, so you end up sending a single straight from the HX Effects’ input to the amp’s fx return.

So if you want to hear just your amp, you need to bypass everything except the FX Loop block. The easiest way to go about it to probably create a bypass snapshot that does just that.

Sorry, I read that too fast.

Is this how you're wired:

Guitar>HXFX IN>HXFX SEND>JCM IN>JCM FX SEND>HXFX RETURN>HXFX OUT>JCM FX RETURN

IF YES THEN

Are you using the correct FX Loop Block for the jacks in use?

IF YES THEN

Check the JCM's FX Loop by connecting a cable directly from send to return.

Check the HXFX Loop the same way.

Check the cables you're using in the FX Loop.

I know, sounds basic, of course you're sure of all that, but check anyway.

There's only so many things that can go wrong with a 4cm rig.
