Part of Factory 2 disappeared.

After years of dreaming and drooling, I finally just got a Helix Floor from Sweetwater.  It's more than I ever imagined a pedal could be.

One thing that I can't seem to figure out though.  After updating to 3.10, part of Factory 2 seems to have vanished.  I have nothing but "New Preset" from 23D to the end.  I'm a little bummed by that.  I've tried powering on with 7/8 pressed.  No change.  What gives?

Apparently not - if you seem to think there should be more in the factory presets. ;-)

Here is a very old quote from Digital Igloo, (Chief Product Design Architect, YGG, Line 6, Ampeg), when someone asked about what is in the factory preset lists.

We add/remove/swap/change/tweak presets pretty much every FW release, some more than others. Unfortunately, any list would be out of date quickly.”

IIRC - there is a forum user on here (Malhavok aka Ben Vesco) who was keeping track of setlist changes in Firmware revisions. You may want to check this link, although it only goes to FW 2.8.

Hope this helps/makes sense.

Oh, yeah - another quote from Digital Igloo - “All presets suck!”

That’s the expected behavior. The FACTORY 2 setlist isn’t completely filled.

Ahhhh.  I've only had it about two weeks now, and hadn't even explored the stock presets completely.  I thought there was more available in 2, but that is proof of how much I pay attention haha

Nooooooooo, this thing does WAY more than I ever fathomed a pedal could do.  I can't believe there are as many as there are as-is!  It just seemed a little odd to stop at 23C vs 23D or 24D.  But, like I mentioned to @phil_m, I'm still wet behind the ears.

Thanks for the pointer to Malhavok's site.  I love finding information like that, seeing how a piece of gear has evolved over time.  I wish he'd kept going into the latest FWs though.  Sweetwater shipped my Helix with 3.0, and I installed the 3.10 just the other day.  I think the particular patch I'm looking for went with the update, Nine Inch Pills.  It's fun to toy with after wearing myself out practicing.

And DI's right, factory presets are fun to play with, but rarely any good to perform with.  I got my first bass pedal a year ago, a B3n, and it's the same case there; all but two patches are useless live, and even those two needed some good tweaking to get the tone I wanted.  I've already pulled a boatload of presets from the CustomTone area and have a couple that I'm settling into and polishing up for my setup.

Thanks so much to both of you for the info!

Oh, you must be referring to:

Nine Inch Pills - (Nine Inch Nails ambient sound as it sometimes known), which IIRC, has been in the factory presets since right back in the beginning of the Helix, and I think it may still have been included in the v3.0 firmware.

The link I gave to Ben Vesco (Malhavok) has a link to download old preset/setlist files. If you can’t find it there! let me know and I will trawl through my back library and dig it out for you, if you really like it.

Ultimately, the best thing to do, is to learn how to craft your own patches. As it has been pointed out so many times before on here, if you grab a file from Customtone, your chances of it sounding exactly as you expected are virtually nil. Even if you had the same guitar, strings, pickups, monitors and listening space as whoever created it, it will never get close. Your playing style, and technique will be fundamentally different.

Welcome to Helix - enjoy.

Agreed 100%.  It's a plus that I'm the type of guy that can never just "let it be".  I'm always looking to tweak and mod everything I own (my bass, my truck, my PC, you name it), and the Helix is just making it that much easier for me.  I know I'll eventually be where every patch I use is my own, but nevertheless Customtone has helped jump start things a little.  In the meantime, YouTube, YouTube, and more YouTube.

Again, thanks for all of the help.  When the Village Idiot speaks up, it's not often met with courtesy ;-)

Stated with great humility. No true village idiot would have said that. Good luck on your quest!
