Do The Dt Tubes Matter Going Straight To The Pa?

Recommended Posts

Picking up an Hd500x this weekend. Trying to plan my next step. I REALLY like the idea of the DT series and tube utilization. However, do they play a role if I want a feed going directly to the PA? Or at that point, will I only notice a difference in the amp itself I'll be using to monitor myself? If that is the case, should I go the LT route?

OR does the output (in this scenario, does one go go the HD500 to the PA or from the DT series amp?) take into consideration the tubes?

As long as you're in full volume mode, the XLR out is tapped off the power transformer, so the tubes have some effect on the signal the PA receives. As far as how much that it is, it's hard to say.

If you're driving your power amp then the valves will be playing an audible role in the output tapped.

If you have the HD500 in the equation, you can use the deep editing options to simulate the power amp characteristics that you prefer. Personally, if I were not going to mike the DT and I'm using a Pod HD500, I'd leave the DT amp out of the equation. But, that's just what I'd do. There are plenty of options available to you.

Cheers,

Got to agree with crusty. If not wanting the cab aspect (miking and stage sound). Leave the Dt out or use a LT2. The pod can sound great solo. Even close to the dt sound but not 100 percent on. I use the direct out blended with an actual mic and have gotten great results but I want the fat tube sound.

So you're saying go the LT route? For those that have an HD500x and a DT series amp, how close does the HD alone get to sounding like the valves in the DT?

This will be debated until the sun goes nova...purists will tell you that no modeling has ever [or will ever] come close to the real thing, others disagree. Lotsa good things being said about the Stagesource speakers though...considering one myself.
