Ingro
Is it safe for the neck to use baritone strings 014-070 on the 270? If not, how thick can I go on the 270? Thanks
phil_m
I’m sure you’d have to have the nut recut to do that. Are you planning on downtuning? Even though the 270 is a longer scale similar to a baritone guitar, it’s not a baritone guitar. It comes with 10-46 strings from the factory. The modeling won’t work correctly if you downtune too far from standard.
Ingro
Yeah, I have a 250 and I was planning on getting a 270. I was assuming it actually was a Baritone because of the scale. So is it just a longer 250 in EADGBE? It's not very clear from the site.

It’s designed to be tuned to standard tuning and use regular gauge electric strings even though it uses the baritone scale length. I remember hearing Stevic say he thought the increased string tension helped with the Variax tracking, but I also think he just liked the longer scale length. psarkissian
Yes, Stevic likes the longer scale length. But then, he is over 6ft tall. Factory strings are D'Addario XL-110, 10-46 gauge. Stevic uses D'Addario NYXL 11's. Do not go higher than 11-sets.
