Possible to globally disable audio out over USB?

Hi all.

Connecting to the Multitracker app on iPad with Helix Floor over USB to allow for MID command sends to Helix.

Here's my question...

In the audio output section of the app, it's showing me the 8 audio channels that are being seen via USB as options for output (effectively creating a loop).

I don't need audio being sent over USB from the Helix to the app/iPad.

I can select my preferred audio outputs (headphones) and simply ignore the Helix audio channels.

But I'm wondering if, for the sake of aesthetics and clutter, there's a way to simply disable audio being sent over USB so I don't see the Helix audio channels being sent?

Thanks!

In your preset's Output block you can select an Output that does not include USB. That will prevent audio being sent over USB. I don't know if it will actually prevent the 8 available USB channels from being visible in your external equipment.

Hi,

I’m not entirely sure about this “loop” that you mention. If you are using Multitrack for sending MIDI to the Helix those are completely separate from the audio.

Your Helix can send and receive MIDI and audio over USB, but if those audio channels are not being used, then no audio will be sent to the Helix. Your Helix is designed for receiving USB 1&2 as a default for jamming along to YouTube videos, backing tracks etc. That incoming audio on 1&2 bypasses all the Helix effects and is sent directly to the audio out of your hardware (1/4, XLR, etc.) plus the headphone jack socket. If you’re jamming along to the stereo out of your iPad, the MIDI Commands can be used at the same time to switch various options of the preset your guitar is using without changing the audio from the iPad.

If you are monitoring the output of the Helix by sending the audio back into you iPad and into Multitacker, then you will probably be getting a loop back which is definitely not advisable. To avoid damage to any of you equipment please consider all the routing options and become familiar with how this stuff works.

I have locked up the studio until Monday, therefore I’m unable to delve any deeper into this just now, but I am about to download the Multitracker app to allow me to check this thing out.

For the moment I would suggest that you  need to check the Helix 3.0 Owner’s Manual - Page 63 - Global Settings > Ins/Outs and Page 65 - MIDI/Tempo.

Hope this helps/makes sense.

thanks. Thats the one workaround i can see. But that requires me to go back in and resave all my presets. I was hoping there was a global "disable audio out over usb" type of setting. That way i could turn off for live performance and then turn off if i'm working on the DAW and want to re-amp or something.

Hi there. Thanks for the reply.

I've got a pretty decent handle on the settings and configurations. Really what I was hoping existed was a "disable audio out over USB" in global settings so the usb audio channels were simply not visible in multitracker. But then i could turn the feature back on when working in the DAW.

Perhaps there’s a way to disable the audio within your Multitracker app, or assign audio to another device and just use the Helix as the MIDI device?

i can definitely assign audio to the desired output source. I just don't like my view being clogged with the Helix channels :-)

This is totally an aesthetics thing. LOL

Hi,

O.K. It now appears that this is essentially a GUI issue with Multitracker, not the Helix, consult with the designers of the app.

Has anyone ever told you that you’re weird?
