External WAH Pedal setup on hd500x?

I am trying to use an external wah pedal on my HD500X.  I want the more dedicated pedal for the tone.  But I am struggling hooking it up correctly.  If I just put it in line either pre or post HD500x, it is doing weird things to the tones. I'm not sure what the proper config is?  I do see Pedal 2 hookup, but only one quarter inch jack.  I would prefer that when I use the wah, it just applies.  I don't want to select anything to engage the wah.  At least that is my preference.  Possible?

Thanks,

cboshdave

Strange. A Wah pedal is typically applied early in the signal chain so I think it should be working if you put it pre-HD500X. In other words, Guitar -> Wah -> HD500X. Perhaps there’s a mismatch in the level (Line, Amp, …) that the Wah pedal is sending vs. the HD500X input?

Can you describe the ‘weird things’ it’s doing to the tone?

The built in pedal, as well as Pedal 2, is an expression pedal. It is not a dedicated wah or volume pedal. It is used to control whatever parameter you desire.

Your choices are pre-pod, post-pod, and middle-pod via the FX Loop (which then allows you to incorporate it in a variety of positions).

Not wanting to "engage anything "rules out the FX Loop. And post-pod is not really an option unless you are looking for that specific kind of tone. Which means the optimal position is what Silverhead stated - guitar wah pod.

As to the 'weird things' the wah is doing...

Any change of gear in the chain is going change the tone that comes after it in the chain.

So, it could just boil down to the fact that you need to redesign your tone from scratch to accommodate new gear.
