jeffb79
Hey all, I just got a Helix, but want to be able to use native with my laptop and monitors when I travel and stuff but don't need to bring my helix floor for anything. First off, I'm kinda new to this whole daw thing. So sorry if I sound a bit dumb about it. I was trying to figure out how to use this with cubase since unfortunately there's no standalone app. On the link here is says to go to Devices -> Plug-in Manager -> VST Effects There is no Devices in any of the drop down menus. Anyone got updated instructions? This must be for an older version or something. Thanks for any help, really wished this had a stand alone. I just wanna jam and not deal with software that requires a degree to figure out, lol
silverhead
Look for a menu item called Preferences or something similar. In most DAWs it is under the File or Edit top level menus.

jeffb79
Yeah no matter what I can't get it to work with cubase. lollipop like this is why I wouldn't ever waste money on Windows software type stuff. Windows is just lollipop and too unstable. In just got a new laptop with an i7 and cubase freezes up. Companies need to move away from Windows, it's just crapware. EDIT: Re: Cubase - check this Tried Gig Performer. Found out how to add Helix, but this crashes. Why software companies still make software for this bloated piece of sh**tware we call Windows is beyond me. If companies stopped making software for Windows and instead Linux or other better more stable systems then we can finally rid the world of this garbage OS once and for all. Sorry it's just that Windows is a very frustrating OS to deal with and wished the world would just move beyond it and let it die already which should have happened years ago. Then why are you still using Windows? Helix Native and Cubase work on Mac OS too. And if you're also against Apple/Mac and want to work exclusively with Linux then you'll need to wait for the rest of the world to catch up to your clearly advanced status. Meantime, enjoy your marginal market share with correspondingly few meaningful apps.

Hi, You are obviously not a fan of Windoze, and I'm a happy Mac Pilot, so I don't know quite what else to suggest. Needless to say, there are lots of people running Helix Native on the Windows platform and equally the same with Apple with no issues whatsoever. I have a Helix floor that I bought way back in 2015, along with Helix Native in Logic Pro since August 2017. This stuff is used almost daily and just works. If you trawl through the posts in here and the main Helix forum you will find lots of people who are very happy with this stuff. Also there are folk who complain, but it's surprising how much of their moaning and groaning is brough about by self inflicted screw ups and a total inability to cope with simple instructions. For instance, just today a guy in the main forum was complaining that connecting his Helix to his PC via USB is far to complicated - yeah, right! Sorry, Maybe you need a Windoze mechanic to figure out the cause of the constant crash situation. Note: You didn't mention which version of Windows you are using, but there have been situations reported previously of problems caused by certain drivers. Also, a while back there was mention of spurious crashes being caused by having an SD Memory Card inserted in the PC while booting up - that one was fun! Something to do with disk numbering IIRC. Look it up. Here ya go - see the post from Camelot_One which starts with YL;DR: Edited March 25, 2023 by datacommando Added link

It is heavy optimized for audio use, though.
jpspoons
@jeffb79I can't remember the setup process now, but if you're being told that you need to do it through the Devices menu, then I think on recent versions of Cubase that's in the Studio tab / Studio setup submenu. Once you've done that setup bit (or even before if you want to check that Cubase definitely CAN'T see Native) then - Add a new audio track. I recommend setting to a stereo track even though you're running mono in, it means you can use stereo effects on an insert without having to mess about in the background - On the track inspector (left hand side) go to the Inserts section, pull down the selector in slot 1 and look under Other - if all is working then Native should be there. Good luck, let us know how you get on.
