Should you reinstall IR's from backup after update?

I just got my Helix a little over 6 months ago,  Great kit.  Been with Line 6 since Original Vetta, POD X3, POD HD Pro, Variax 700, and JTV so not new to updating these units just the whole IR elements.

Just wondering after updating if you reinstall the IR's and user presets does this overwrite the new IR's from the update or just add the older one's into memory along with the new ones.

Thanks for your advice.

You can restore your user IR’s safely. The IR’s for the new cabs is in the L6 software and control. The IR slot’s are your user space and for you to decide what to do with.

You probably know, but in case – When doing the 3.60 upgrade and follow the instructions, you will after the upgrade be asked to do a factory restore (FS 9+10+power up), that will wipe all your custom settings, preset and IR’s. In this process you will get the new factory presets (think it’s only Factory 1 that are affected) but if you want to keep the new Factory presets you need to deselect the Factory presets in HX Edit/restore from your backup, otherwise restore will read back the ones that you backed up in the beginning of the upgrade procedure. In the same process your IR and presets will be restored int you Helix.

Hi,

Prior to updating your Helix firmware to the latest version, HX Edit suggests that you make a back up of the current state of your hardware. This can be any, and all presets, setlists, IRs, Favourites etc. The back up bundle is your "Fail Safe" option.

Sometimes the Firmware Update may have some new Factory Presets added, but this is not always the case. This latest version has some of the earlier factory presets modified to utilise the new cabinet profiles. The new cabinets are a kind of very special IR and are additional to the previous type of cabinet in the HX family. Anything you created using the earlier cabinet models will not change via the update, although you have the option to swap the new for old cab models either on the device or via HX Edit. Amp and Cab choices now have both the new and legacy types available to use.

Any other IRs that you may have created, bought through the Line 6 Marketplace, or other third party suppliers, are totally unaffected by the changes in the Core operating system of your Helix and will be in the same slots and should behave exactly like they did before the update.

Hope this helps/makes sense.
