ledvedder5150
Is there an application to view and edit Helix patches? I've heard a few Helix patches that I like, but they won't import into my HX Stomp XL.
silverhead
Yes. The application to view and edit Helix patches is called HX Edit. But there’s a better application for your purposes called Helix Native. It’s the plug-in version of Helix that runs inside a DAW on your computer. It provides features for preset compatibility within the Helix family of products. You can load Helix presets and tweak them until you are sure they are compatible with the Stomp XL. Then export from Helix Native and import into HX Edit. You can download and install Helix Native for a free trial period and then, if you wish, purchase at a discounted price based on your Stomp XL ownership.

It is more than likely that the patches (Presets) you mention were actually created for the Helix Floor, LT or Rack mount versions of the HX hardware. These larger models have double the DSP available than the single chip that is in the HX Stomp XL. The HX Stomp XL pedal can only accommodate up to eight simultaneous amp, cab, IR, effects, and/or looper blocks, DSP permitting. Anything more than that cannot be loaded. As for viewing and editing Presets (patches), Line 6 provide a a software application that runs on a computer and connects to the hardware device via USB. If you don't have a physical unit connected then HX Edit cannot function. Therefore previewing Presets is not possible, unless you choose the option mentioned by @silverhead in the post above. The Helix Native plug-in will run for 15 days as a fully functional demo and can be set to emulate the restrictions of the HX Stomp XL (or any other HX unit) via a Hardware Compatibility function set in the preferences. Also, there are a few HX file viewers available online, but they can be a bit hit and miss, and only show you the blocks used with no editing available. Anyhow, making edits to audio presets while not being able to monitor the changes in the audio is rather pointless. Hope this helps/makes sense. EDIT: I just realised that you said the Presets won't import into my HX Stomp XL. I guess that means you have dowloaded the presets from somewhere like CustomTone. If you did get them from CustomTone then you need to restrict you search options to the ones compatible with your unit, rather that all the Helix Presets.
