Which voltage through TRS for Variax 500?

Recommended Posts

I cant get a xps (or they're prohibitively expensive) so I'm trying diy a solution for powering my variax without batteries.

I can make a box that applies a voltage to the ring of the trs, but what voltage? Some say 7.2V, some say 7V, some say 9v. Whats the correct answer for the Variax500?

Thanks

I don't know the answer to your question; it's probably proprietary information. But I can already hear the answer you'll get from @psarkissian on this. He's the senior Line 6 tech and repair guy for all Variax guitars. He'll say "Don't do this! Get the proper Line 6 power supply." or something like that. For good reason - he sees failed DIY repairs cross his desk all the time.

Thanks. Yeah I assume they wouldnt want us to diy it but they dont sell the xps anymore. What are people to do?

I already made a solution that uses a 9vdc supply to feed the battery clip. Its somewhat unwieldy though.

All I want to know is what goes through the ring of the trs from the xps. I could measure it myself if I had a working xps but I dont :/

Supply is 9V using battery power, XPS is the same. Inside, it sets-up what is need for the analog and digital circuits.

But it isn't just the voltage. It has to be the correct current draw as well,... and each product has a different current

draw. Best to get the correct Line 6 items for that.
