bamadell
Mac Mini with Logic Pro When I use the HX Stomp as an audio interface… (In Logic, select HX Stomp as input device and leave my normal audio interface as output device.) … something will periodically go wrong and I’ll get a multi-second delay. I see no delay on the HX nor anywhere in Logic. Nothing has changed in Logic WRT buffer or latency. The only way I can figure out how to correct it is to go back into Audio settings in Logic, change the input device back to my other audio interface, and the back to the HX. It seems to reset whatever the glitch is and then it is ok for a while before it reappears again from what I can’t tell. I tried a PID Express a while back and experienced the exact same glitch. i have the one workaround mentioned above and I can run the HX analog into my other audio interface without this problem, but I’d really like to figure this out and use the HX as advertised. TIA for any help.
silverhead
I’m not a Mac guy but from previous discussions here I believe you may need to set up something called an aggregate device in order to have your Mac recognize different devices for audio input and output.

That’s fine if everything is going in and out of the Stomp only. You also say that you then, “leave my normal audio interface as output device”. You don’t mention what this second “normal” audio interface is? Selecting it as the output within Logic could possibly be causing the issue, especially if your Mac isn’t configured to send the audio to that second device. Apple have a way of creating an “aggregate” device that can handle different ins and outs using different hardware units. You may find it useful to check out this page on the Apple Support pages. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT202000 Oh, yeah, you can “use the HX as advertised” if you take time to configure it correctly. I have been using all 8 USB channels on my Helix (and sometimes I add another 4 and 2 channels from another pair of different audio interfaces) with Logic Pro for almost the last 9 years without the problem you describe. Your Mac and Logic need to know what is going where. Hope this helps/makes sense.

As noted above, creating an aggregate device via the Audio MIDI Setup app is the safer method, likely because (based on my "quarter-educated guess") the MacOS takes care of syncing both devices at the system level before even Logic has to deal with it. For what it's worth, I've been using the Stomp with Logic as part of aggregate devices for four years now, mostly without any issues. My recording setups include a 15" MacBook Air M2 with Roland OctaCapture as the second interface, but also a 2008 (!) MacBook Pro with a 2009 (!) Alesis and a 2003 (!!!) M-Audio Firewire interfaces as part of my aggregate device setup. It works.
