Stomp knob 1-3 erratic

I have had an issue for quite a while where knobs 1-3 are erratic when trying to adjust parameters on effects and amps.

It wasn't an issue since I was using edit, but I'm using it live for bass.

Anyone seen this issue?

Are you speaking about a difference in the intervals of value changes when rotating the knobs slowly vs. rapidly? If so, that’s a designed feature, not an issue. By design (and in response to user feature requests) parameter values change in bigger jumps when you rotate the knob quickly. You need to rotate it more slowly to make the intervals smaller.

If that’s not what you’re talking about please elaborate.

Yes, on my Stomp it is a hardware issue: the contacts of the rotary encoders needed to be cleaned with a tiny bit of contact spray. I did this without opening the unit - I just removed the knobs, let a drop of contact spray run down the encoder shaft and then turned it for some seconds. Worked great.

Sadly the issue came back as of late so that I'm thinking of replacing the encoders instead of cleaning them every few weeks.

What type of contact spray are you using?

Just recently I've discussed similar pot issues with a few engineers, and they strongly advised against the sole use of "classic" sprays à la WD-40 or Kontakt 60, exactly because the "fix" is only temporary. While one of them uses WD-40 for actual cleaning, afterwards he also applies a self-mixed fluid to lubricate the contact surface (I forgot which components he's using though). Another engineer recommends DeoxIT D5 as the only effective contact spray for this kind of cleaning, which is what I bought a few weeks ago and started to use it. As such though, I can't provide any 1st-hand experience yet.

Yes.

Knob 1 on my Stomp has this issue since a year or two, sometimes making huge jumps back and forth, regardless the speed I'm rotating it. It takes some patience to dial the intended value, e.g. when using the parametric EQ where I want to use a specific frequency band.

I haven't tried to fix it yet because I don't edit parameters directly on the Stomp very often. But I may try the aforementioned DeoxIT D5 to see if it helps

Also, footswitches 2 and 3 are beginning to react slightly erratically, so those are also candidates for a contact cleaning attempt.

I don't really have long term experience with my contact spray yet either. I used an old spray can of DÜWI Kontaktspray, a german product that isn't available anymore.

The controls were fine for maybe two or three months. Only one of the three encoders had the issue again so I applied a drop to that one again, seems to be ok again.
