Running two instruments in HX Stomp XL

I am pretty sure this is a pretty simple fix but for the life of me I can't figure it out. I want to run two separate patches on my Stomp....One for mandolin and the other for an acoustic Baritone. All this is running into a Powercab+. So the Mando is patch 4D and the Bari is patch 4C. I would like to plug the bari into left input and the mando into the right input and then send both out to the powercab from the output. When I do this I am stuck with both of them coming out of the output so if I am playing mando, the bari is on and vice versa. Any idea on how to be able to switch patches so that one or the other is switched off when the other is switched on? I can't use both inputs on the PC+ as I am already using one for something else.

I can almost see what I need to do with the key word being almost.

thanks for being here.....

Put a Pan block (Volume/Pan -> Stereo) first in the signal path and set it 100% left to select the L/Mono input only and 100% right for the R input only.

No need to waste a precious block for that. Just create a split by dragging a block down to path B, then do the L/R panning on the splitter.

So on the mando patch I could set that to left and the baritone patchcould be right? And this would work even though I am using the left mono out?

Where the instruments come out depends on the mixer at the end of the split path. You can run both signals into any output, blend them, pan them just left/right, whatever you feel like. The splitter at the beginning is only there to divide your left and right inputs.

So something happened. I had it all set up with Patch 1A being the Baritone and 1B for mando. Each had a pan blockwith one panned to the left and one to the right. I plugged the baritone into Left in and the mando into right in. I then went out the left mono out to my PC+. It worked and then later I went back to it and it didn't work. I could switch patches and the baritone came out on both patches with the mando not coming out on wither. I checked the cable of course. Not sure where to go.....

The problem was thatAll of a sudden my Right input didn't work. So I rebooted and that helped get the inputs both working. The biggest issue is I can't seem to get one of the instruments to mute when I switch from  one to the other. Like I said, earlier today it was working. I am  trying to figure out how to mute the patch that I am not using. The mandolin is muted when I switch to the baritone, but the baritone is on both the baritone patch and the mandolin patch.

Well, that's actually as true. For me it's usually that I split the signal in any such situations anyway, so I didn't think about it.

Notice that this only works as long as the R input is used. (It is mandatory to have a cable connected to the R socket).

Alternatively the Return can be used instead of the R as a second input. You can select the Return(s) as input in the input block by turning the lower knob. Check whether Line or Inst (Global Settings -> Ins/Outs -> Return ) works better with your instrument.
