External Amp Control w/Helix Stadium Floor w/External Exp Pedal Possible?

Current long time LT user here.  I'm considering moving to Stadium, but don't really need all the bells and whistles of the XL.  It's my understanding that on the smaller Floor model, i'd simply hook up my own expression pedal to the Control A/B jack, but it's also my understanding that that's the same jack to send channel switching commands to an external amp.

 

So, i guess the question is, can i assign some other jack to talk to my external amp, or do i need to get the XL, which has two Control jacks?

I have the Stadium Floor. It has two Controller inputs using a single TRS Control A/B jack. I am using two external TS expression pedals and a 2xTS -> TRS Y-cable into the A/B input jack. In Global Settings -> Switches/Pedals I have both Control A(Tip) and Control B (Ring) set to expression pedal input. Works perfectly.

 

I expect (but haven’t tested) that if you have a single TS expression pedal and also a TS cable for switching amp channels remotely you could use a similar Y-cable adapter to merge both pedal and switch cables into a TRS jack connected to the Stadium ControlA/B input. In Global Settings set Control A for the exp pedal input and Control B for the external amp remote switch output, or vice versa. Not sure but I expect it will work for you.

 

I suggest you consult the Helix Stadium manual for further details.

thanks for the response but that likely won't work as my 3-channel amp requires a TRS

What amplifier do you have?  I only ask to see if there is some 3rd party interface device that could convert your footswitch signal(s) to MIDI.  I found one for my Mark V:35 that works well.  My JP-2C has MIDI capability so that was easy.

 

The other way to find out may be to open a ticket with Line 6 support and have them determine if the standard Helix Stadium (non-XL) will work as you want.

@boynigel Did you purchase the Suhr microMIDI controller as well?

i did own one of them that i used for a different rig a few years ago.  great little problem-solving tool that takes up no room!
