Leftzilla
My recently received JTV 89F fell from its stand and slammed in to my HD500. Very lucky that the only damage was a small dent in the 15th fret between the B and High E string. However doing bends on the high E in this area hangs up on this dent. Could somebody suggest a good way to try and smooth this or will I need to bring to a luthier? It really is more of a dent than say a divot. phil_m
I would think you'd want to get the damaged fret replaced. Shouldn't be a big deal for a luthier to do. I think sanding or filing it would probably only lead to more problems.
Inerzia
What Phil said. Have it replaced.
toneman2121
since it's relatively new, replace it. if it was older, there might be a noticeable height difference due to wear, in which case, a luthier would be able to determine to replace or dress. point being moot. moondancer
depends really on the depth of the hack. If it is small you can try to repair it. If no good result give it to a luthier. Normally he will file the whole fret-board to equal, there is enough material to do this. Replacing the fret is last thing to do, because there is a possibility to damage the wood while replacing. The frets have little hook to be kept in the wood. By removing a fret the wood can sliver.
