lkes335
I have a POD HD500 I primarily use for practice use at home since I live in a small condo and can't crank my rig. However there are tones and patches I'm enjoying now with the HD500 that I don't have the pedals to duplicate with in my live rig. We have also run into a few venues where my "aircraft control board" will not fit on stage, so I want to replace some of these with the HD500 while also gaining some of the effects I don't have access to otherwise. My live rig: guitar -> Volume pedal, Wah, Compressor, 2 Distortion/boost boxes -> Orange Rockerverb 50 Amp FX loop -> EHX POG2, Diamond Tremolo, Vox Delaylab, Retrosonic Phaser, Line 6 M9, Line 6 DL4 (for sampling/looping only), Dr. Scientist Tremoloessence, Vox Time Machine, Maxon AD999 - FX Loop return Obviously there are a few FX pedals that cannot be duplicated by the POD, namely the POG and Diamond Trem (unique trem patterns). But the rest of the FX in the loop can be replaced by the POD HD500 in theory. The idea would be to have the POG2, Diamond Trem, DL4, and HD500 in the FX loop. Replacing the rest of the pedals in the loop. Simple enough to just use the POD as I used the M9, a multi FX machine... so why not just buy an M13 and keep the HD500 at home instead of hauling it back and forth? Well this is where I get a little insane. I want to still take advantage of the amp sims.... oh joy this is where I have no idea how to route it. I would like to go from my standard signal path to bypassing the amps preamp and just running through the POD into the FX return when I want say... an AC30 clean sound for example without having the Orange preamp colouring it. is this even possible? I don't want to bypass the Orange's preamp all the time as it's arguably one of the best sounding amps I've ever heard. I've got an ABY box sitting in my FX bin, and I'm not opposed to buying an extra box or two to make this happen... just is it possible? In theory wouldn't this work with 4 cable meothod? But what about my analog pedals infront of the amp? would they work better still before the amp and after the pod, or before the pod? cclement
Found this in the HD500 threads.... the 4-cable method is exactly what you are after: http://line6.com/support/topic/1682-4cm-using-hd500-and-blackstar-stage-60/ I don't use this setup myself, so this might not be 100% correct but.... One of the keys to making this work is where you put the FX loop block. The HD500 FX Loop block is what SENDS the signal to the input of your amp, and then RETURNS the signal from your amps out back to the HD500. Have a look at the great diagram in the thread. If you wanted to use the HD500 amps, then you would not use or bypass (depending on the patch) the FX loop block so that your guitar isn't sent to the input of your Rockerverb 50. It would go into the HD500, thru the amp model(s) and effects of your choice, then to the HD500 OUTPUT and back into the RETURN on your Amp This is also a great resource for this method: Line 6 POD HD500X - 4 Cable Method with Orange Rockerverb 50 MkII
lkes335
thanks that looks exactly what I need to try. Gonna lollipop off the bandmates as I mess around for an hour. but hey, the drummers always 45 minutes late anyways!
FlyingSquirrel
Using the HD500X along with an amp that can be channel switched via midi, and has a very versatile effects loop can be a powerful beast.Consider the Carvin V3 as it has the loop that can 2 loops that can be switched to "tail" as well. It's dead simple. You just assign the FX Block to a FS to turn On and Off. I prefer to do it in HD Edit on the Controllers tab but it can be done easily on the POD too. But does it kill the send or the return? you can select either or
radatats
figured that part out. But does it kill the send or the return? you can select either or If you turn the block off it basically removes it from the signal chain, it effectively bypasses it. You can separately assign the send or return to a controller like the exp pedal to adjust while the block is On.
