POD HD Best Sounds Compilation
by Akeron on 2012-04-22 08:11:32

Hello fellow forumers! I've made a video and audio compilation with the best sounds, at least for me, from the POD HD (300, 400, 500, Pro) until now. At the end there are also some related patches. Enjoy!

Boy the "i don't know" by that fenderprobrazil guy.....  I'd love to get my hands on that patch.  People asked him 5 months ago it looks like and no response.

Re: POD HD Best Sounds Compilation
by Akeron on 2012-04-23 16:33:35

The problem is, even if you have the patch, you could still not sound the same, because of different monitors, pickups etc. Unfortunately that is the result I get from some of the patches I posted above...

Re: POD HD Best Sounds Compilation
by litesnsirens on 2012-04-23 18:00:46

Well you really have to know all the details in order to get it to sound the same. Even if the tone was created with input 1 set to "guitar" and input 2 set to "same" or set to "aux" will have a huge difference on the tone if you don't have your gear set up the same way.  That can be a global or preset setting so you need to know.  And then, yes the guitar and type of pickups used is next.  I think a lot if not all of these tones are done direct to computer via USB so they are going to work better as is for guys using an FRFR system vs. guys that want to make them work through their amps.  Back to the pick ups though, it's nice to have this reference of what guitar the person is using and being able to listen to the tone being played.  I have a great Divide by 13 tone that my other guitar player wanted on his HD500.  I have a JTV and I crafted the tone using neck pickup of Tele model on the JTV.  My other guitar player uses humbuckers.  We were able to tweak the settings on the HD500 so that it sounded really close (almost identical) to my sound with my system.

Most of all though I would like to say thanks for doing this, it's a great resource and I know that it must have taken some time to put it all together.

Cheers!!

Much like the tones I download from Customtone I usually use the base tone and do some tweaking to my personal liking.  I think there is maybe once that I can think of that the tone sounded just right to my liking, we need to remember tone is subjective.

Although gentlemen Thank You!  I will going through many of these presets!

I agree with what you are saying - the best thing about this post is that with the youtube clips at least you know the sound that you are aiming for. Downloading a tone from custometone is great and yes you can tweak it to compensate for different pickups amps etc. but if you don't know what the original creator of the tone was getting you don't know if you can get the sound you want with the downloaded tone or to start from scratch.

With this post you can at least hear what is possible.

Thanks again

I like your playing in

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aqTg9pVyfY&hd=1

andthe way you use the  Growler and Tron Up I've got some questions.

1) I see you put many effects after the amp and after the mixer, why?

2) How are the two amps are panned?

Re: POD HD Best Sounds Compilation
by anonyrat on 2012-05-28 18:09:44

Wow can this guy play! and he is so versatile too - he can play all over the house!!!

Re: POD HD Best Sounds Compilation
by PDXguitarfreak on 2012-05-29 06:06:52

Thanks!

1) The reason I sometimes put effects behind the amp is because I don't want the amp's distortion to impact their intent - I want the effect to sound clean and not fuzzy. For example, I always put reverb and delay behind the amp because I don't want the amp to distort them... in my opinion, when you put them before the distortion in the chain it really muddies and uglies up the effect. Think of it like as if you were using an effects loop on an amplifier.. it's the same intent.

2) I'm not panning the amps, I'm just mixing them together. However, I should probably experiment with panning more.

I'm really new to the world of amp modeling. I have never owned such a processor in my life. I've always been a purist and believed that I needed a real tube amp to get good tones. However, I watched over the last few years how good these processors are getting and finally decided to get one. Sometimes I feel like I'm cheating by using one LOL. Anyway, my point is that I'm still learning here, and I appreciate the feedback.

Rock on,

Dave

Re: POD HD Best Sounds Compilation

PDX

I really dig your main tone it works great for classic VH tunes and just sounds good overall.  Nice Job!!!!

Re: POD HD Best Sounds Compilation
by litesnsirens on 2012-05-31 12:44:47

He's actually got me messing with dual amp tones.  I'm still on the fence about really needing to dual amp to get a good tone but I am messing with it.  Well I should re-phrase, I don't NEED to dual amp to get good tone, I have a lot of great single amp tones.  It's more about figuring out if I can get the same kind of tones with a single amp as to what I am getting with the dual amp set ups.  Obviously for DSP purposes single amp is preferred but there are some interesting tones that can be created with dual amps - see I am open to the concept.  I guess old dogs can learn new tricks.

Re: POD HD Best Sounds Compilation
by PDXguitarfreak on 2012-06-01 06:39:41

Well, I finally got a response from FenderProBrazil when I left a comment on his Panama video on YouTube:

"Hi Bro. First, apologize for the long delay in answering you. Unfortunately I no longer have my POD HD or patches that I created with it. I'm currently using the Axe Fx 2 and Amp Kemper Profiling. Congratulations on your channel. You are a very good guitar player and built very good patches with your POD HD"

I guess that puts that one to rest.

PDXguitarfreak (Dave)

Re: POD HD Best Sounds Compilation
by PDXguitarfreak on 2012-06-01 06:48:18

Hey old dog, the DSP limits are frustrating and admittedly the one complaint I have about the unit. I totally agree that only one amp in most cases is needed, I'm going to start working on more patches that only involve one so I can load up the effects. However, one goal that I keep putting off is to create a patch that combines a clean tone and a dirty tone for rhythm stuff. If anyone has seen cool ones out there, please let me know

Re: POD HD Best Sounds Compilation
by Akeron on 2012-06-01 09:47:27

It's a shame! My idea is that those tones were heavily post processed (EQed). That would explain how he could get that sound in 2010 with firmware 1.10 and why he didn't post his patches.  This or a combination of Angel F-Ball and some EQ. I guess this is the same situation even with other patches on this thread, from example those of Chris Beaver.

Akeron - very interesting. I had no idea that Garbage ran an completely ampless stage environment and did everything through PODs.

The second video notes how useful it is when doing the festival circuit in the summer, where there is no soundcheck, and you can step out on stage with the tone that you had in the club on the night before.  I am sure there is a little more to it than that but that I see their point.

Overall, Garbage is a good reference for Line 6.

Maybe after this, many other famous artists will publicly admit they use a POD (whatever version) on and off stage
