HD 500 & the Phantom
by sinistralx on 2012-08-02 02:13:39

Hi Folks,

Interesting question here. Can I connect the balanced output’s (XLR) to a desk that is providing Phantom power?  Will phantom power delivered to the balanced outputs damage my POD in any way?

Thanks

Gareth

It will be fine. The phantom power won't affect the HD500. The DC voltage for phantom power is applied on pins 2 and 3 of the XLR jack, and the circuit is completed through pin 1. On the HD500, there is no electrical connection between pins 1 and 2 or pins 1 and 3, so there is no way for the circuit to be closed. So the HD500 in essence doesn't "see" the phantom power. This is typical for most devices that don't require phantom power.
