  1. Model knob does appear to be working properly and easily, with the 1/4 inch cable in AND the charged up battery now installed. Doesn't seem to activate with the VDI cable. Same thing with a longer spare Cat5 cable I have. I was able to connect it to my laptop by installing workbench which comes with the usb driver. Monkey shows everything up to date. Back to the POD: nothing happens on VDI cable only, model knob won't activate. With both cables it does and for a minute I was getting sound to speaker with input 1 on variax, but flipping the modeling knob had no effect so appears I was just getting magnetic pickups. Fiddled some more and then I could only get sound with pod input set to Guitar. Progress, but not there yet and haven't been able to hear anything besides mag pickups so far.
  2. Just bought a new JTV59 and considering this case http://tinyurl.com/jzdb67j Gator GC-LPS Deluxe Molded Case for Single-Cutaway Electric Guitar The reviews say it fits LP type guitars well and one said it fit his JTV59 perfectly. I had also looked at an SKB case but it was $50 more with no better reviews.
  3. No the model knob light never came on even when I set the POD's input to Input 1:variax It didn't matter where I put Input 2, didn't help. These setting changes were all done via HDEdit.
  4. I only had a few minutes last night when the guitar arrived so it's way early in the game. I do get sound with regular guitar cable to HD500x to speaker when the POD is set to guitar input. With the VDI cable nothing, so I may either have the common JTV modeling knob activation issue, or somehow the VDI cable jacks weren't pushed all the way into the guitar or POD. I haven't run through the POD's onboard general setup yet to look for issues --- I was just using HDEdit to try the inputs. On the mixer tab of HDEdit I could select JTV, but everything else in that block was grayed out. The neck feels fine ( never owned a Les Paul type guitar ). I may tighten the little phillips head screws in the tuners as I like them to have a fair amount of resistance to turning. Later maybe upgrade to locking tuners. I'm confident enough that I'm going to go ahead and order a longer VDI cable, extra battery, case and strap with strap locks. I thought these came with two batteries, but I only received one.
  5. I'll know by Thursday. I've had a few electric acoustics with piezo in the bridge as well as my Carvin AE185 which has humbuckers and piezo in the bridge, but it isn't like the piezo bridge on the JTVs.
  6. I appreciate the feedback, research and photos. I've never noticed the problems mentioned on other guitars I've owned. It must not be restricted to high-gain or tapped licks since someone reported using these "fixes" on acoustic guitars. http://leftyfretz.com/review-gruv-gear-fret-wraps-string-dampeners/ "especially when doing tapped licks, as literally no muting is required at all. This eliminates not only sympathetic string vibration, but also the scratchy noises your palm can unintentionally create when trying to mute. It really is a perfect solution for super clean playing."
  7. This is nuts. Spend $1000 or more on a new guitar and start putting tshirt patches and velcro on it, plus filing?? Maybe I should cancel my JTV59 order :-) Does string gauge play any role in this?
  8. I haven't even looked at that set list, but I will. Thanks. Leaning towards the voice box mentioned, but I do wonder how well it can track power chords since there is some mention of it expecting to find the root note in the bass.
  9. Thanks for that. Checked out the patch. I've been considering one of these: TC-Helicon VoiceTone Harmony-G XT I'd have serious doubts about anything in the pod being useful for vocals beyond the compressor,EQ and reverb like your patch.
  10. Does the 500x just pass vocal/mic input through, or can you add an effect to the vocal?
  11. The MIDI controller in that video looked interesting

  13. I should learn to use the onboard knobs better. I doubt I'd use a tablet at a show even it would work. At rehearsal I've considered taking a laptop ( that I already own ) because the POD is on the floor ( not much into getting down on all fours) and in Edit I can click on channel volume, type 70, hit enter and boom, done. Same for most other settings. Biggest reason for having something at rehearsal would be when you can't really check your tones in the PA beforehand. I think I read that the Helix can be managed wirelessly from a tablet. At $1,500 I'd be surprised if it didn't.
  14. Nice except that is a pickup selector switch and the OP was asking about "...JTV-59 with a bad model selector switch (as replacement for one that was written off as unfixable). When pushed to switch between magnetic pickups and modeling the switch doesn't move equally well in all positions. In fact, it is just in the custom1-posistion that it reliably pops back out after being pressed"
  15. Most recommend Input 1=guitar and input 2=variax when you DON'T use a variax. Lately that is being debated again, with both inputs set to guitar or guitar and same resurfacing. Be that as it may, if you have a variax you use input1=variax, input2= ?
  16. Oh no. Confusion returns. I'd been using the 1=guitar, 2=variax for a long time. Now I'll have test the other possibilities again. Of course, now that a JTV is on the way, this will be changing for me anyway.
  17. I'm curious how POD users are pairing up guitar models with amp models. I'll be using my HD500x and assume I'd use my normal favorite amps for the magnetic pickups and jtv models like Lester. For acoustic possibly a clean Fender amp model, the Roland Jazz Chorus amp or maybe no amp at all. For Chime 12-string, maybe a vox amp model.

  19. Some "virtual capo" tunings would help me. Ideally I could have one for Capo 1st fret, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. This helps when you don't like the key chosen for the song by others and/or you're trying to get into a sonic space between other instruments. I was surprised a while back when I read that guitar fundamental frequencies really only go up to about 1000 hz Instrument EQ Chart * 82.4 E - open 6th string * 87.3 F * 92.5 F# * 98.0 G * 103.8 G# * 110.0 A - open 5th string * 116.5 A# * 123.5 B * 130.8 C * 138.6 C# * 146.8 D - open 4th string * 155.6 D# * 164.8 E * 174.6 F * 185.0 F# * 196.0 G - open 3rd string * 207.6 G# * 220.0 A * 233.1 A# * 246.9 B - open 2nd string * 261.6 C - "middle C" * 277.2 C# * 293.6 D * 311.1 D# * 329.6 E - open 1st string * 349.2 F * 370.0 F# * 392.0 G * 415.3 G# * 440.0 A - 5th fret on 1st string * 466.1 A# * 493.8 B * 523.2 C * 554.3 C# * 587.3 D * 622.2 D# * 659.2 E - 12th fret on 1st string
  20. I hope they don't the way of the dodo anytime soon -- support usually dwindles once that happens.
  21. I can see myself using the magnetic pickups, both acoustic and electric 12-string models, and possibly the Gretch models. I'll be using my HD500x, hopefully with the longer/stronger VDI cable at gigs so changing POD patches changes guitar model. But levels from patch to patch ( song to song ) do need to be fairly close for the benefit of our sound techs.
  22. Either Line6 can't keep up, or there is high demand or both. Guitar center shows the Cherry Sunburst not shipping until June, Tobacco 4/14 and black 4/29 ( I ordered a black two days ago and they're still saying ships first week of April). Amazon has 7 sellers of JTV59 with ship dates all after April 21st ( and prices all over $1500 ) Sweetwater expects them in stock within a few days with immediate shipment upon arrival.
  23. Anyone used this or something similar? I found a link to this forum in a post here on the Line6 forum. It's not as active as this one, but resources are resources. He has individual bnk files which I presume are model files as used by workbench, plus a bundle of all. JTV - All Models Output Adjusted to match
  24. When my JTV comes in, is there any reason not to immediately update it? Already have the latest version of Monkey installed, and downloaded the latest Workbench.
  25. That's where I'll be using mine, in a worship band. We've been working on arrangements lately ( with one acoustic and two electrics on many Sundays ) to try and not step on eachother's sonic turf. So despite the controversy, I've been using capo on my Strat to get up into another register above the acoustic, while the other electric plays the really high bits. Or sometimes I capo just because we don't get the set list more than six days in advance and I don't want to play in Eb, for example. So looking forward to how the JTV is going to open this up. Electric rhythm is what I'm excited about these days. The high parts in most worship songs isn't all that exciting and the acoustic guitar is often buried in the mix so I see electric rhythm as a real "driver." We're also working on using the mixer's high pass filter to keep piano and keys out of the prime guitar frequencies between 100 and 600 hertz.
