  1. ok thanks, not a big deal. Once I select the correct JTV model in HDEdit I can name the patch my way.
  2. I wanted a JTV model with the magnetic pickups blended it at 100% ( mainly for testing and tuning ). So in WorkBench HD I refreshed from my guitar, select spank in the Custom 2 bank, blended the mags in and renamed the model. Then uploaded that one back to the guitar. After restarting my POD ( connected to JTV over VDI ), on the mixer tab I only see Custom 2-1,2-2 etc. Nowhere does Spank100Mag show up?
  3. Tried both the 1/4 and xl4 outs and didn't seem to make much difference since everything is mono
  4. This is a pretty complicated routing arrangement, but the only real question I have is on the POD guitar outputs. One goes to the mixer ( using DI if 1/4 ) and one goes to my Alto TS112 powered speaker. The speaker's inputs can take 1/4 or XLR. I won't use the speaker's output because it's combined and the sound person will need the guitar and vocal separated. Guitar is sent to the voice/harmony box via the effects loop but voice box only outputs voice, no guitar. The loop is needed so the voice box can use the guitar to get the right key etc. click on image
  5. 99% of the time I run one 1/4 out from my 500x through direct box to PA mixer ( no onstage amp of any kind ). For an upcoming event I'll need one to go to my powered speaker close to me and one to the PA. I don't use stereo effects. Would I be better off using both 1/4 outs, one 1/4 and one XLR or both XLRs?
  6. I was hoping to solicit more feed back on using Line 6 tuners with JTVs. Already milked that cow on the HD forum.
  7. I think the tuner is accurate, IF outside noises aren't causing your guitar to vibrate and in turn making the POD tuner needle move around too much. Especially with my James Tyler Variax. Sure, I could turn off the modeling and tune off the magnetic pickups. Since I don't use the mags at all now, I'd rather not introduce a lot of wear and tear on a knob that might require a 90 minute drive each way to get it repaired. Considering the clip-on Petersen head stock tuner.
  8. I like the fact that the Petersen only weights 2.9 ounces, although I'm not likely to leave it on while playing. Pushing the model knob on the JTV every time I want to tune with mags means putting more wear on that, and currently I don't touch any of the guitar knobs except the volume and rarely the tone. I may try tuning in model mode but picking softer and up closer to the neck to see if that helps on the POD before investing in the Petersen clip-on.
  9. The Petersen clip on does sound great, but it does way more than I need. Haven't ruled it out yet. Looking at less expensive ones designed primarily for guitar. ( e.g. Snark SN-5 )
  10. Checking with some friends in my band who have PODs, but looking at this one. Nice that it's so small. 2.9 ounces Petersen Clip On at Amazon Petersen Demo Video
  11. I may get one just because tuning is so critical. But I probably wouldn't want it on the headstock while playing. This morning I hit the model button to turn off modeling while tuning. Didn't seems to make much difference. I cranked up some music while tuning at home today and it wasn't bad so I don't know what the heck goes on with my band other than just volume or frequencies I'm not duplicating at home.
  12. Unfortunately, I almost never use the magnetic pickups. I may have to switch to setting the POD inputs to the "patch by patch basis" so I can create a patch that uses the mags, just for tuning. Up until now both inputs have been set to Variax.
  13. Can you use the Petersen with a vdi cable ?? Or in pod effects loop?
  14. I'm running 11-49s on my JTV59. I saw one thread where going to heavier strings could cause problems on modeling with the low E and A strings ?? But this guy advises 11s http://blog.line6.com/2013/2061/
  15. The questions would be: ( with fresh strings ) 1. Is anyone else having issues with tuning using a POD connected to JTV over VDI? 2. If so, is it worse with higher noise levels in the vicinity ( other band members playing etc ) 3. Would picking softer, or using a different model make a difference? 4. Have you had any luck with a headstock tuner? Tough to tune, especially the high E, B, G, when the needle is moving back and forth to the left and right of the two vertical tuning lines on the POD tuner. I checked my intonation a couple of months ago but maybe time to try again.
  16. I'm having a hard time tuning my JTV 59 with the POD HD500x tuner ( seems more of an issue with significant other noise in the area ). Short of a headstock tuner, I'm thinking of creating a POD patch that only uses the magnetic pickups on the JTV. This would require me to change my inputs from global to patch-based since I normally use VDI and modeled guitars only. Or I create a custom guitar model for tuning that has a 100% magnetic pickup blend. During rehearsal or a gig this would still mean changing to a patch using that custom model between songs, instead of to the actual patch for the next song.
  17. I'll test that. I'd consider a headstock tuner but have heard they are also affected by surrounding noise. You can't really go with something like a Boss tuner pedal when your only connection is VDI.

  19. I thought I'd see if anyone else observes wobbling/unsteadiness in the POD tuner depending on how much other band noise is going on nearby, or when using a guitar with piezo pickups. I've been noticing it with my james tyler variax. But at home where it is quieter, not nearly as much. The only inputs to the POD are the JTV over VDI cable and sometimes effects loop cables going out to an external voice processor box, but that shouldn't have an effect in tuner mode ( I thought ). And now that i think of it, at rehearsal with no effects loop the background noise still makes the tuner needle bounce around, especially on the high E, B and G.
  20. I have a global setting of 1: variax 2: variax and haven't had any problems with effect clipping due to hotter signal this way. At home, where the tuner is pretty steady, I have the Variax VDI cable into the POD, power supply into POD and 1/4 out to powered speaker. Plus the USB for HDEdit to my laptop. At gigs and rehearsals it's all the same except no USB. Seems like the wobbling tuner needle occurs more on the high E and B strings.
  21. I think this difficulty in tuning with the POD tuner while connected over VDI may be partially due to other noise in the band space. It seems more steady at home, but I absolutely must be able to tune with accuracy during rehearsals when silence is unlikely. Am I doing something wrong? Flip JTV to standard tuning when POD tuner is engaged? Buy a separate tuner like the ones that clip on the neck?
  22. The only time wireless would ever appeal to me ( since my VDI cable is 25 feet ) is to check the sounds I'm getting in front of house. I can do that occasionally with a 20 ft 1/4 inch cable from POD to direct box, plus the long VDI cable. That should get me 30 feet out into the room in front of the stage where I can hear the mains.
  23. When I think of IR I think of being able to customize cabinets and mics in the POD, not the variax guitar. The 500 series doesn't allow that. Does Helix?
