  1. Similar problem today unrelated to browsers. After 3 hours, started working again.
  2. Yeah, Linux could be a tough way to go. Windows 10 home is actually cheaper than Windows 7 if you buy it from Microsoft. About $120 for Win 10, nearly $180 for Win 7. Not sure how they do it but Ebay has Win 7 Premium for $22 and, as you say, that would be good for another 2 years or so before Win 7 goes out of support. By then I'll get another laptop. http://www.ebay.com/bhp/windows-7-home-premium
  3. An older laptop I use just for music stuff needs a new OS. It's not worth buying Windows 10 for this machine so before getting a new laptop I thought I'd look into Linux, like Kubuntu. Will any of the Line 6 software run on that?
  4. So far the tool has worked pretty well. Our sound guy hasn't given me the impression that my patches are all over the map. Since you can't hear FOH very well from the stage, I'd have to run a 50 foot cable so I could play from the room ---- which would mean going there on an extra trip or earlier than I care to. Different things work for different people/situations. One thing about such tools, though, is they don't suffer from ear fatigue and prevent yelling from spouses who don't want to hear "gig volume." :-)
  5. We do a final tune up during sound check but I'm attempting to get the patch levels all close from a LKFS loudness perspective ( at home, in advance ). I don't claim to understand LKFS entirely but it's not the same as decibels or what a VU meter would show. "LKFS is derived from dBFS, which is decibels referenced in the digital realm to the amplitude level of the most significant bit of the signal, hence Full Scale. LKFS is in fact an amplitude level. However, it is intended to stand in for the subjective quality we call "loudness." In order to make that at least reasonably plausible, LKFS modifies simple amplitude level (as expressed in dB) to more closely resemble what our ears hear under normal television viewing conditions. 6. Well, when equalizing six patches of widely varying tones, to be used later through a PA system, I want to get something more reliable and accurate than just trying to compare them with my ears. I use the LKFS number showing on the right in the attachment.
  7. Has anyone else had an issue with this software where you turn the POD off and then the connected laptop locks up ( possibly because the Orban software can no longer detect what you have set as the sound source ) ? https://www.orban.com/free-orban-loudness-meter/
  8. Thanks. I see Custom Tone has some patches mentioning Schon also.
  9. Thoughts on amps etc Neal Schon used here ( to be achieved with HD500x)
  10. Patch using this idea https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByJZvqeQNBB7d0dIZ29KOE4yWnd5b2lXMENIMW1oTGlEVkFz/view?usp=drivesdk
  11. It looks like you can take one volume pedal effect and have it control drive in one amp and channel volume in the other ( I use dual amp patches exclusively ). This would be an alternative to a boost or drive pedal effect. Note: I thought my expression pedal toe switch was broken but now see you have to assign it to a footswitch or " toe switch " if you want to be able to flip between say a volume pedal and a wah. I almost never do that so was leaving the volume pedal assignment at none ---- controls volume but doesn't allow switching from Exp 1 to Exp 2
  12. Awesome thanks for that link. My hd500x was purchased in early 2015 and has pretty light use ( maybe 3 hours a month ) so I must have stomped FS2 too hard at some point
  13. ordered the pcb boards. Will report back results once installed
  14. Have you tried dual amps/cabs? I was just experimenting going back to a single amp and so far can't duplicate the sounds I get with two. The combinations of mics and cabs is critical though, you can't just pair up anything. Check this: http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/cabsMics#dualCab Here's the list of successful matches I've used. Please let us know if you find others. Uber V-30 4x12 57 on axis XXL 4x12 121 Ribbon This is the last and to my ear best combination I've found. It seems natural - crisp highs and powerful mids. And there's less EQ'ing to deal with here too. Uber V-30 4x12 409 Dynamic XXL 4x12 57 on axis Nice feel like the one above, but not quite as much SNR. Maybe a clearer midrange though.
  15. One of my top row footswitches has become unreliable. This looks like an easy fix without soldering, for $18 I opened the back and blew out the switch, which got it working, for a day. At that price, not worth messing with further. Remove the back, remove some screwed, unplug a ribbon cable, and put it back together. http://www.fullcompass.com/prod/280562-Line-6-50-02-0234 Top and bottom switch circuit board assembly for Line 6 POD HD500X guitar floor multi-effects pedal.
  16. Not sure about now but originally MeamBoboo swore by dual amp patches and a lot of it was from combining different cabs. http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/cabsMics#dualCab Using the dual cab technique I'm presenting here can improve your direct tone dramatically. However, this is not for the faint of heart. It requires about 2x as much time to dial in as a single cab patch. You will also take a heavy DSP hit, so this is not recommended where you need many effects on your patches - in some cases you won't be able to fit a single reverb after adding a distortion effect and the necessary EQ effects. Every cab/mic will have some frequency range that sounds fake, washed out, or muffled. Luckily, I don't believe these are always in the same spot. This means that you can combine complementary cab/mic's to get what sounds like one great cab.
  17. I've been using dual amps/cabs exclusively for a while now, with great results. I only rarely run into DSP issues, but with maybe 80% used by the the amps/cabs, it does limit what you can try. I've also never tried pre-amps ( pre versions of the amps ). What would you suggest as a way to get most of the "dual" tone with just one amp. I have both the vintage and metal packs but never use a metal type tone. I use the AC 30 more than anything else but have found the metal pack Brit 2204 very useful as well as the solo crunch. MeAmBobbo: "I recommend running a dual cab setup. The EQ advice contained above and below does not pertain to a dual cab setup, where you are generally picking two cab/mic combinations that complement each other and lead to a fuller response from the get go. Dual cabs are not for the faint of heart, or those wanting to run numerous or expensive effects. If you just want an awesome amp tone and are willing to spend a bit more time on your patches, I recommend you jump right into dual cabs" http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/cabsMics#dualCab
  18. I took the back off and blew out the switches. Works fine now.
  19. Really odd thing I noticed today. Footswitch number 2 always works at gigs, as do the rest of them -- this 500x has had a soft life. But with HDedit plugged in today, FS2 wouldn't work when trying to activate it manually on the POD itself. Unplug the usb cable and back in business.. ???? This was the same on numerous patches. I'm running a JTV 59 with good VDI cable.
  20. Turning off or removing the compressor did increase volume so I do need to make that up elsewhere. Right now I'm trying to keep the compressor but with lower sustain settings and higher level. Meambobo suggests not running your amp channel volume controls wide open ( which has been my standard practice ). So I've got some work to do. I run a separate patch for each song so leveling volumes for the sound persons's sake is a big deal. I'm experimenting with the Orban Loudness Meter and flipping Audacity's monitoring to RMS instead of decibel in an attempt to get a better handle on patch levels. https://www.orban.com/meter/
  21. We're on in-ears at our church but I'd have to check to see if our monitor send is pre or post board EQ etc. With volunteer sound techs ( great guys but busy with their day jobs and families ) I do have to concern myself with what the congregation is hearing. It's a carefully worded effort in conjunction with the worship leader so we don't ruffle feathers.
  22. I know the community is probably evenly decided between the virtues and evils of using compressors. I did notice that disabling it on the pod brought the volume up even though the red comp's volume was probably set at 60% or more. Not sure if dropping the compressor affected tone, but dropping the noise gate did seem to improve it slightly.
  23. I run my 500x direct to PA and the PA channel usually has a compressor effect turned on. Since virtually all of my patches start with Noise Gate> Compressor, I'm wondering if I should remove the compressor. I've talked to the sound techs about turning off the mixer compression but these guys are volunteers and I don't expect it to happen with any consistency. Even in my old analog pedalboard days I always had a compressor but now wondering if having essentially two affecting the sound is a bad idea. Plus, I could use the DSP since I always run dual amp/dual cab patches. Of course, the mixer compression is happening after the HD500x.
  24. After looking at santana's rig these days I've been thinking about switching from one patch to another mid song instead of trying to click on an Overdrive. With a variax you could actually Switch amp types and guitar types mid song ...there would be the trick of getting the volumes correct but you have that even flipping on an overdrive in one patch. Thoughts?
  25. Nice. Just before mixer, so right after amps in my case, which would put the boost effect before delays and reverb.
