  1. Cool.... What's the best source for an additional battery that'll work in a JTV
  2. I think using the wireless during sound check and a 1/4 inch cable plus battery , and the vdi for the actual performance will work.... this is going to be used in a full band mix with several hundred people in the congregation singing so I doubt if there's anybody going to hear the difference...... I thought about using the looper in the Helix but that's a pain in the neck when you're set up for all snapshots.
  3. That's a good idea, I'll try it. I'm probably also going to get the Relay G10s wireless, but not sure I'll use it with the JTV since I'd have to go back to using the guitar battery etc.
  4. If I wanted to get out into the room during sound check, would there be any drawback to use a 50 foot length of RJ-45? I'd still use my Line 6 VDI cable for the actual song sets. This would run from Helix on stage to JTV-59 http://AmazonBasics RJ45 Cat-6 Ethernet Patch Cable - 50 Feet (15.2 Meters)
  5. I'm considering buying this as my first wireless unit. Should work fine with my old stratocaster but with my JTV59 variax it will be problematic. Without the special VDI cable you have to rely on the variax battery and it doesn't work as well with the Helix on a regular guitar cable. https://www.amazon.com/Line-Digital-Wireless-Relay-G10S/dp/B07KCYZNTY

  7. I'm considering the 10S as my first wireless rig. Looks like $249 is the street price. Line 6 Shop G10s price
  8. I know some people play live with Helix Native. I may have to try running the Reaper/Native signal out to a real speaker like my Alto TS212 to see how it does. I'm not planning on using these "reaper/native" patches for gigging, just to reverse engineer other people's patches and be able to delve into every "knob" on every effect and amp without having to use the Floor rig and a guitar. So the results of, say, twisting the SAG control on an amp in Native needs to give me at least some useful feedback. I'm surprised that free DI ( unamplified ) guitar tracks are more easily found out on the net.
  9. Helix connected to laptop over usb. It was an empty Helix patch. In Reaper I was using some $30 bluetooth headphones, but if they are the problem, it wasn't latency. Seems a little better with better "hard wired" headphones. Here's the file: Random DI Guitar picking WAV file
  10. I have Helix Floor but bought native mainly so I can load presets from CustomTone and elsewhere and view their setup without having to get out a guitar and fire up the floor unit every time. Works fine for that. I've installed the VST3 into Reaper and may also try Cakewalk. I created a direct guitar track using an empty preset on my helix, running into an Audacity mono track. This mp3 ( or wav ) works fine with Native/Reaper also but the tonal qualities aren't impressive using some of my normal Helix patches. Would this simply be due to monitoring with headphones instead of the full range flat response powered speaker I normally use? Or are there other "accommodations" you have to make in Native to get closer to "Floor" tonal quality?
  11. Line 6 still has the refurbished ones for $959 I saw one on Sweetwater's used page which allows offers/bids. I suspect the prices will return to normal on used ones. It seems to be a love/hate thing with some people who are unwilling to learn to use it deciding to sell within a few months. https://shop.line6.com/hardware/refurbished/g11-6-jtv-59-cherry-sunburst-electric-guitar.html Guitar center used gear: $799 https://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Line-6/2013-JTV59-James-Tyler-Variax-Solid-Body-Electric-Guitar.gc?cntry=us&source=4WWRWXGP&gclid=Cj0KCQiAhKviBRCNARIsAAGZ7CcmCbrTPE_ejZkEU0phT8Ay8lJtPub9ErP_utd5C0rNorodJbFdE80aAlR_EALw_wcB
  12. All of a sudden this week I'm seeing a few used JTV 59s on Ebay and Reverb.com priced as though they were brand new. I don't think they are U.S. models. I'm after a second JTV59 in Cherry and was expecting to see them more in the $500-$700 range ( which is what I would offer if I decided to bid ) Line 6 has refurbished versions for about $950 https://reverb.com/item/11147363-line-6-james-tyler-variax-jtv-59-modeling-electric-guitar-in-cherry-sunburst
  13. Now that I've decided to start using my old 74 Strat, this sounds like fun. What are people finding the useful max range is where they perform? (G10) Where I play the back of the room is 65 feet from the stage where the receiver and my Helix would be sitting.
  14. How is that Bigsby holding up? How many new screw holes had to be drilled?
  15. Again, you can see the re-named models on the Helix onboard screen. But not in HXedit.
  16. The photo was added to the ticket because on the first go-round, support misunderstood the issue. The only place there is a problem ( (call it a bug, call it poor planning, whatever ) is in HXEdit. Since the Helix device itself is showing the customized/personalized variax model name, HXEdit should also. For those of us who do 99% of our patch programming in HXEdit, it's just a hassle to have to view the Helix itself to confirm we're choosing the correct variax guitar model ( e.g. JoeCustomStrat ) because HXedit keeps showing Custom 1-3 etc. If you renamed a shapshot to BigChorus and HXedit showed it as "Snapshot 1" default name, you wouldn't be happy.
  17. I posted this on Helix bug reports and opened a ticket on it.
  18. When you give a specific name to a Variax Model in Workbench HD, that new name shows on the Helix screen but isn't reflected in HXEdit. When assigning that custom Variax model to a patch or snapshot in HXedit, you still see things like Custom 1-3 rather than the specific name you gave that model
  19. That was weird. Glad you found it. I've had very few problems since beginning to use a new able, and making sure the black plastic nut near the end of the cable is tight.
  20. The custom-name guitar model does show on the Helix screen, fortunately. Why that isn't reflected in HX edit I have no idea.
  21. I love my Helix and JTV, just wondering if others experienced the same thing. As far as the other post about protecting the Helix power connector, in my budget world protecting a $1500 investment is worth considering.
  22. Has anyone else noticed that if you set a custom name for a variax model in Workbench, the Helix onboard screen shows that but HXedit continues to show something like Custom_4 etc ?

  24. I looked at both the left and right angle cables but the concern still seems to be that when stored in the Helix backpack there will be movement causing wear beyond what the usual plugging/unplugging would cause. I'll have to take another look to see how much room there is around the Helix when stored in my backpack. Wear on the cable isn't an issue ( easy/cheap replacement), it's wear that could lead to the need to replace the power connector on the Helix. Those are also cheap but it would be great to know what's involved in replacing one beyond removing the screws ( soldering? ) Helix power connector - IEC 320 C14 Panel Mount Plug Adapter Power Connector Socket
