  1. Some people like to use the output block on a preset basis so that all of their presets in a given set or performance are volume balanced rather than doing what I've been doing and changing the volume there on a snapshot basis.... the only problem with the amp channel gain exclusively is that in some of the early fender models there just isn't enough gain available with that control in certain circumstances
  2. Yes I never had this issue before at lower wet effects levels. Due to Covid, we're recording our parts at home and not playing live so I've found you need or can get away with considerably more reverb. That's when the glitch raised it's ugly head. It's also possible I changed the reverb decay parameter on a snapshot basis, not realizing the risk..
  3. I ran into some reverb or delay artifacts when switching snapshots. ( half way through the 20 second clip below ). On another forum the advice was that it's ok to use the output block to set overall patch volume, but do not use that on a snapshot basis ( instead, change snapshot levels prior to any time-based effects ). Changing levels per snapshot in the output block has been a standard practice for me, especially if amp channel gain couldn't get it done. I don't recall if delay or reverb tails were on but at the moment of the artifact I had a fair amount of delay and Glitz reverb running, going from a slightly higher gain passage to a milder passage when snapshots were switched. It was also suggested that delay feedback/mix and reverb decay should not get adjusted snapshot to snapshot. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1svJDxpEzmKiRnRH7jaW-5NII4-KB9K93/view?usp=sharing
  4. Have you found the problem in Mono? Any idea if it's related to sampling rate differences between sonic port and garageband? I have a friend with the same problem. It started last week when he got a new Ipad. It's been updated to the very latest IOS but on his Gen 4 he didn't have the problem of pitch variations. Like his guitar was going out of tune every ten seconds for a bit.
  5. I'm trying to help a friend who has been recording electric guitar successfully with Sonic Port and Garageband on his older Ipad. He bought a new Ipad last week, made sure IOS was updated to the latest, but now when he records he gets pitch effects. Sounds like the notes he's playing occasionally go out of tune. I noticed Sonic Port runs at 48 khz sampling rate but Garage band is 41 I believe. Could this be the problem and how can he fix it?? The old Ipad is off on Ebay now. https://line6.com/sonicport-audio-interface/specs/
  6. shut it down and it resumed preset rebuilds upon restart. Restored global settings from backup, all done
  7. Following the 2.91 instructions exactly. Right now it seems stopped on rebuilding preset 679 (Firmware Version 2.91.0) I haven't clicked in HX edit to return yet.
  8. Martin door that's intriguing... I hadn't considered that option ...now keep in mind I'm sending midi signals from something external like the Bluetooth device you mentioned to the Helix... I have zero need to send anything in the way of midi from the helix.... all I want to do is flip between 5 snapshots and if I can additionally toggle the tuner off and on that would be icing on the cake.
  9. No action taken yet on this update. As far as restoring a pre-update backup after the fact, I've never done that and never noticed anything out of order. I guess this depends on what if anything you've done in global settings?
  10. For the time being I've given up on hardware devices and looking into an Ipad app . In my price range, there is very little information available on specific uses. Both the DMC.micro and Midi Baby 3 had drawbacks for what I want to do. An Ipad app of course means I can't operate it with my foot but won't cost much to test. I already have the Apple camera adapter to connect the Ipad to the Helix.
  11. At the moment I have narrowed it down to the midi baby 3 and the DMC micro, both in my price range at about 100 to $150.......There is a nice web-based editor for the midi baby to assist in programming but it has no LED display so I'm thinking the only way you're going to know which preset or snapshot you're on is by matching the Helix LED color to the color currently selected by one of the switches on the midi baby........The DMC.micro has a display but no user-friendly editor that I've been able to find
  12. I keep the Helix and a laptop ( for HX edit etc ) on a desk, and at home, need to keep it that way. If it went on the floor it would have to stay there -- just not practical here. A midi pedal could easily be picked up and placed in a drawer when not in use. What makes the choice more difficult is that this midi need may go away in six months, so I don't want to drop a lot of money on it.
  13. Lots of options. I'm taking another look at the Apple midi pad 2 app. Unfortunately my old Ipad probably won't update to IOS 10 which is required. Midi pad Upsides: cheap and no new hardware...connects to Helix with the Apple camera adapter kit. One of the downsides is you're having to mount the Ipad somewhere like on a music stand. If I have to get a newer Ipad then that is also a downside, especially when I don't have any other need for an Ipad. The one I have was given to me and I just use it to control my IEM mix at church. There is a reality though --- many products in the audio world just assume Apple. There are often workarounds or alternatives for those in the Android/Windows world. I'm not sure if it's just that many musos are big on Apple or if it is a more stable operating environment to program for ( or both ) It's also true that you can't expect any product to be update-able forever. Hardware and operating systems just age out. https://apps.apple.com/app/id896879399#?platform=ipad
  14. I only need four commands, five if I decide to program in the CC68 toggle tuner command. If this DMC.micro could be set up so program numbers 1-5 move through four snapshots plus the tuner, that would be 98% of a done deal for me.
  15. This might work, does CC commands https://www.disasterareaamps.com/shop/dmc-micro
  16. That Behringer looks awesome but I want to find something with a smaller size for the limited use I've described.
  17. At home I've been treating my Helix floor more or less like a rack unit having it on a shelf or table . .....occasionally I want to be able to control it with a floor switch without unplugging everything and putting it down on the floor... I've looked at the tech 21 midi mouse and midi mongoose but my primary use for this would be the switch snapshots probably nothing else since the snapshots themselves are so easily customizable ....it isn't clear either one of those will send CC change control commands ..... It looks like those only send program changes which would switch presets but not snapshots..... anybody seen one in the under $150 range that will do that ?....I also looked at an iPad app that will send midi commands over USB to the helix but that ties up the USB that I'd rather keep for HX edit
  18. Figured that out eventually... got both updated... That's when the little oddity with the frequency selector occurred
  19. Accomplished the update ( G10S) but it wasn't clear if the transmitter had to be pushed all the way into the unit to the charge position or not. Eventually I updated it with it pushed all the way in. Also noticed when done I had to move the frequency knob off of Auto to a numbered channel and then back before it put out sound.
  20. From alliance 6 expert over on the variax forum..... " Force mode,... the guitar defers to whatever preset is in the floor effects product. Don't force,... the floor effects product defers to whatever the guitar is set for and giving to the floor product. Check the edit pages in the Helix for this."
  21. If you change to another snapshot and back again, this does seem to work. just setting the string levels and saving the snapshot doesn't seem to initiate communication from Helix to Variax on these settings.

  23. Has anyone noticed that on Helix, on a custom variax model, where magnetics are set to zero, that the custom string levels (volume) in a Helix snapshot don't work. It works on a factory variax model, but not one modified in Workbench even though the "magnetics" level at the bottom is set to zero.

  25. It's all good. As far as people saying it isn't freakin' noisy like the real amp, they can kiss my grits. :-) I'm not concerned about them in the least. But there are many amps to choose from. I'm going to look at the MatchStick ( matchless DC30 ) and Line 6 original Litigator which, even if Class AB, may not have been modeled with a desire to retain noise. As far as one of my previous favorites, the HiWatt/WhoWatt, I think I now know how to tame it's noise and one of those ways is to simply ignore what headphones pickup that nobody in a live band or live crowd would ever hear.
