  1. hmm ok I usually only put delay and reverb after the amp. Not sure I understand the implications of this in a live-only situation. It makes sense in a recording studio I guess if you apply delay/reverb etc after recording everything else first. Now that I think back to my old-school pedalboard days, ALL of the effects were before the amp/cab since I never had an amp with an effects loop. If I was following that pattern I'd be putting all effects ahead of the amp/cab models. Most of my patches are now dual/amp, dual/cab something like: Noise Gate>compressor>Drive>parametric EQ> amps> mixer> delays>reverb
  2. I read this on a facebook forum. I had assumed cab/mic models were applied after the last patch in the chain. In a "real" setup, you'd have GUITAR>pedals>amp>speaker
  3. Tried this. Loved it. Specifically #1 with analog delay/modulation set at 50ms zero feedback ~40% mix going into a 1/4 note delay set to the bpm of the song. Near the end of the patch with only reverb after. Through headphones anyway, it really seems to fatten the sound.
  4. On the guitar, turn the alternate tuning knob from Standard to Model. Also try unplugging MIDI cables from the HD pro.
  5. I had a similar problem with my JTV so I looked up my original thread. Here is what I found "I had to switch the alternate tuning knob from standard to Model to get modeling coming thru the POD and into the amp." http://line6.com/support/topic/19829-brand-new-jtv59-modeling-doesnt-turn-on/?do=findComment&comment=149324
  6. Are you using the original VDI cable that came with the JTV? It looked like some midi cables were attached. I would try it with nothing else connected except power supply, VDI cable and output to amp or speaker.
  7. Didn't read everything. What are the inputs on the POD set to? At least input 1 should be variax. On the mixer tab of HDEdit is the JTV specified as the guitar?
  8. The two ways to do this I've heard about are below. Is this technique mainly for clean or lightly overdriven tones? How slow can a song be before this really doesn't add to the sound? 1. slap back delay into "rhythm delay" Like a 50 ms delay with moderate mix and very low feedback into a dotted eighth delay set to the tempo. 2. 1/4 note delay into the "rhythm delay" as mentioned above.
  9. Thanks for that. I guess another option is running Apple's Garageband in a Windows MAC OS virtual machine. I'm just basically trying to get a more comfortable arrangement for practice since where the POD is set up, I have to stand. Reducing wear and tear on the POD is on my mind, although probably irrelevant.
  10. The Great Divide: on the one hand, people who either can't or won't read and figure things out. On the other, the "tweakers" who will learn how to take advantage of technology. If I get a whiff of "dunno" out of somebody, I don't even try to sell them on modelers or JTVs -- lost cause. The times they are a'changing. People have to decide if they want to be like some my age who don't use email or own a cell phone.
  11. I'm trying to find a way to extend my practice time by connecting my JTV ( or strat ) to a laptop and leaving the HD500x for final pre-gig setup and practice. Although I upgraded to a much better VDI cable I suppose I could use the original one to get a JTV - USB - laptop connection, but not sure how that would work with software like Guitar Rig. Or I could get something like the guitar link. Ideally I'd have something better than a bare guitar signal ( a few effects ) which could mix with a slowed down mp3 or youtube video for practice out through headphones. 13. Have you tried simulating a whammy bar using a pitch glide effect controlled by the variax tone knob? http://line6.com/customtone/tone/2197976/
  14. Yes I see the need for a tele or something similar, but in the solos I"m hearing what seems like a doubling. That could be a studio trick, or some combination of reverb/delay -- or multiple reverbs/delays. ? I'm probably going to use my jtv59 but could try my strat.
  15. Ok not for everyone but wondering how we might get that twang at 1:43 into this song on a Pod 500x
  16. Thanks for the responses. Obviously I'm unsure as how to proceed but headphones are a relatively cheap solution in the meantime. I wouldn't want isolating headphones since I'm almost always jamming along to music from another source ( although I could try to mix the POD and music source ) Are these the AkG phones you suggested https://www.amazon.com/AKG-240-Semi-Open-Studio-Headphones/dp/B0001ARCFA I'm also considering something like the JamHub for our jam group practice space which would mean I could leave the Alto at home. JamHub
  17. I like that, but somebody I live with probably wouldn't. :P
  18. Well the headphones will give me stereo -- although not sure what that does since I don't use stereo effects. And they make it more difficult to dial in patches that ultimately run through our church PA.
  19. I love the sounds I'm getting from my HD500x/powered speaker setup at home, but I'm tempted to leave the Alto TS112 at the practice space rather than lug it back and forth. So considering some sort of headphones. I always have a USB connection from POD to laptop for HDEdit and Workbench. What would you suggest as far as gear?
  20. Probably. I bought a headstock/clamp-on tuner and like it a lot so far. Very steady. KLIQ UberTuner - Clip-On Tuner for All Instruments - with Guitar, Bass, Violin, Ukulele & Chromatic Tuning Modes
  21. I believe it is. I just ran one xlr out to my powered speaker and one 1/4 out to the other input of the same powered speaker. It worked. Naturally the gain knobs on the powered speaker had to be set differently. It's when you use stereo effects in your POD patch that using only one of the two outputs ( left or right ) can become an issue. I don't use stereo effects but I think the solution usually proposed is to make sure the last effect in the patch is mono.
  22. My JTV59 works fine with my HD500x, but I did have some initial problems. Even now, occasionally, I'll find that I have to push the VDI firmly into the back of the guitar. Setting it on a guitar stand not really designed for a JTV can somehow bump it loose just enough. How exactly is the JTV set up in HDEdit on the Mixer tab. Is variax control set to PRESET?
  23. I didn't notice the instability with my Strat, just with the JTV. It's usable, but I like to see a tuner needle stay between the lines without much wobble -- doesn't breed confidence. Probably fine for most people. I ordered a headstock clip-on that works with vibration to see if it's more stable.
