I'm likely to go with the Samson's, mainly becuase the store is in my city making it so much easier to return if the gear starts smoking. :D s
-
Lol, not quite. s

Ah yes, I actually do know Free Bird but learnt of it recently due to the jokes. s

Yes, we did an outdoor show and it was sponsored by a music store that supplied the PA, foldback speakers, etc. The gear was all Behringer, we were one song in and the gear started sizzling for a bit before wisps of smoke started appearing from it. It was reasonably quicky replaced while we stood on stage in the hot sun. After the gear was exchanged we got part way through another song and same thing happened with the replacement gear. We stood on stage for even longer in the hot sun and after that gear was replaced our set time was over and there were some upset fans who didn't get to hear us play. We pretty much left straight after so not sure how the rest of the show went. Quick impression: :( I will never use Behringer. s

Nah, it's not only age, it's growing up in an Aus. city, this ain't Nashville, lol, and I only know them from one song, the one where they all die in the plane crash with Buddy Holly, oops that's Don McLean, lol. Just kidding, I do know Sweet Home Alabama and the band lost 3 members in a plane crash, apart from that not much else. s

How To Make Your Gain/ Distortion Cleaner &more Transparrent
StephenSLR replied to michaelyoungband's topic in POD HD
After further experimenting tonight I've solved a problem I was having, you may want to try this. I get a good clean amp sound in one path, then I split it into two paths and place a distortion pedal(s) in the other path. I can then control the gain by setting the drive, output, etc. and adjust the mixer volumes and pan levels of each path. This way I'm getting a good clean sound punching through with as much or in this case, as little gain as I want. If I put a high gain amp in the other path however it just floods it with too much fizzy gain. s -

My favourite Noiseworks song. It really bothers me when I think of all the great Aus. bands that could be household names worldwide if they took the AC/DC and InXs route and hit the USA hard. Every Aussie knows GnR are great Rose Tattoo fans, how many people in the US have even heard of Rose Tattoo? Don't get me started on Cold Chisel, they were offered a US tour but said why should they play US pubs for a few hundred dollars when they're playing arenas in Aus. for hundreds of thousands. I guess that's how it goes. s

Awesome, I may sell my practice amp and trade it in on the speakers, lol. I'm usually sitting on the floor cross legged editing it, can only take half an hour at a time so that'd be welcome relief. s
-
Can I used these powered speakers to practice through instead of an amp; without having to power up the laptop? s
-
Good call. KoL are a bit grittier sounding but I only know a few of their songs. Another thing about the 80's is bands would have their Marshalls, Peaveys, etc. but people are forgetting to get their sound they'd also have an effects rack half a metre tall loaded with racks so it may be a challenge to get the exact sound with only a pedalboard but I guess you can come close. s
-
You could try one with a different neck radius? I agree different guitars have different scales to their frets, neck radii, weight, etc. I'm not liking the new breed, Schecters, ESP's, etc. they feel too light, almost like the wood is air filled ... or not even wood, lol. s
-
Yeah, I really want to make it work though. I'm also thinking externally, it could be the speaker, amp, hot pick ups, even my playing style. For now I'll look for another effect south of clean, to play arpeggiated chords I guess. s
-
Being possibly the youngest in the band, I'd almost bet he's never heard of them, lol. Thanks for the compliment. s
-
Yes I remember them too. Jenny Morris sang for them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Xeq9bglwcU lol, yes I do know what QED means. s
-
Sorry to see it unsolved. Did you get another effects board? Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution? s
-
I'm starting to find this, it't not noticeable when I play a power chord but if I hit the low E string (tuned to D) and I let it ring and then arpeggiate by playing A and D strings the distortion from the ringing E string emits a high pitch fizz that I can't seem to get rid of. Even when I only have a New Tone with only one amp or one pedal, the moment I get any gain there is also accompanying fizz. Not sure if it's my amp speaker but cleans are very nice. s

Cheers, the Audiolines are factory seconds so it'll either be the Presonus or Samson's. s
-
Two other options for the same price are these: Presonus Eris E5 http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ErisE5 and the Audioline ALSM50 150W 5" both have XLR inputs. If you had a choice? s
-
Is there any real disadvantage it not having XLR inputs? s
-
Do you use guitar leads or RCA? s
-
Just doing a quick search, I could get a pair of Samson Resolv A5's they're within my budget. http://www.gearslutz.com/board/reviews/695436-samson-resolv-a5-active-studio-monitors.html It states: 1/4-inch balanced inputs as well as unbalanced RCA inputs What is the difference between balanced and unbalanced, would these be suitable? s
-
Excellent, thanks. s
-
Sounds promising, I have an old set, my guess is I can use something like this plugged into L mono and R mono on the POD. s
-
Speakers with guitar inputs? Any recommendations? So I have to get cables that run from POD to speakers? Can I use my guitar leads? s
