  1. I'm not sure what type of speaker connections they have on their pc, I could be wrong but can't imagine they'd be 1/4 inch jacks. What's the best connection option? s

  3. If you're only using FX and using a real amp instead of amp simulation then studio/direct would be the preferred option but as mentioned many times, go with whatever option sounds best to you. s
  4. I'm also new to this and was planning to do it on the weekend, I didn't think of the USB outlet, I was just planning to have the 1/4 out go into the guitar input on my friends PC for the programme. Will the programme detect there's a POD hooked up? How do you get the HD500 output to feed into the programme once it's loaded? Will I need to upload HD Edit or any other programme? Are the output settings and line/amp switch set the same or is this resolved when it's hooked up via USB. Sorry if this is all obvious, is there a guide to read up on the set up? s
  5. Hi all, I'm wondering what's the best way to use the HD500 for microphone. We'll be recording on PC so what's the best input output settings? We'd be recording guitar separate so Input 1: mic., input 2: Variax? Output: Studio/direct. I suspect HD500 is used more for FX than amps so what FX do you find to be best and in what order? After doing a search for 'microphone' on Customtone, no patches come up. Keen to see how others have set their patches for microphone. s
  6. I'd have to get my guitar and amp and plug them all in, lol. I don't practice in the same room and the sound of my practice amp isn't going to represent my real amp which I only use in a studio or on stage so I'm not going to lug my PC with me when I can just twiddle knobs and press buttons on the HD500 s
  7. I find using a PC to edit cumbersome, I have to take the HD out of its case, find the lead and hook it up to the laptop, then open the programme. Once all is up on the screen I can't hear the results of the editing, I have to unplug it all and then replug the HD into my amp. It's much easier to go straight to the amp and edit using my ear. To me, HD Edit is only good for uploading tones from Customtone. s
  8. My last effects unit was a Zoom 9050 and it took me a while to even figure out how to use the POD HD500. Even after reading the manual that came with it I was stumped, it made more sense looking at a few clips on Youtube then downloading the advanced manual but combining all this, after reading Meambobbo's guide it was then I really started to understand it. Not very user friendly without putting in the effort to learn it and you don't need a PC but it helps, even if only for the Customtone user patches you can download. s

  10. Both lines are stereo, if you use mono effects, you will still have Left and Right output but the mono signal will be split evenly into Left mono and Right mono instead of Left Stereo and Right Stereo. s
  11. If you use channel A (the top one) then input 1 is guitar unless you have a Variax guitar. You can test the different inputs for input 2 to see which one is most quiet. What I do is split the chain so two amps are visible and move the effects in front of channel A so it looks something like this: __ FX__FX__Amp A __ __ / Mixer \ ___________Amp B __ Amp B is muted, Amp A is centred in the mix. s
  12. Another section on levelling patches and MASTER knob vs. VOLUME knob here: http://www.foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/tipsAndPitfalls#leveling s
  13. If you mute channel B you will have to pan channel A to centre. Read the section here on Use Channel A Only for Single-Amp Patches http://www.foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/quickGuide s
  14. Yes and many pedalboards have this feature, not sure why it was left out on the pod but I guess I rarely used it on previous boards. s
  15. My mistake, I misread the options on page 2.8 and 2.9. To me it looked like there were three options 1. Combo 2. Combo Front 3. Combo Power Amp. I was wondering what is the difference between 1 & 2. It made more sense when I switched on the unit to find only the last two options. s
  16. There are also Combo and Stack output modes that aren't Combo Power Amp and Stack Power Amp respectively. I understand Combo Power Amp but what exactly is the difference between Combo and Combo Front, same question for Stack and Stack Front. pp 2.8 & 2.9 of the Advanced Guide. s
  17. Does it also apply to Combo and Stack output modes? Looking at the Advanced Guide it states: The signal includes “Live†Cab Models, with no Mic Model or “AIR†convolution, with a special EQ curve added for each. s
  18. That makes a lot of sense, something I hadn't thought of. Though it would be preferable to set it to Studio/Direct rather than combo, stack or power amp right? Is switching the amp block off the same? s
  19. Sorry I didn't articulate well, it's a prefix of Latin origin that represents four. Yes, they're also known here as quad bikes (four wheels) or in the USA as ATV's (all terrain vehicles) Thanks, is this like a foldback wedge? (monitor on stage that faces you but not the audience) I'd like to get the best sound from my HD500 with amp stack first. s
  20. Sorry, quad is short for 'quad box' which is a 'box' or cabinet with 4 speakers. Quad is latin, it means 'four', it is also used to prefix many words like quadruple, which means to multiply by four. s
  21. Front stack mode. Guitar in > HD500 > 1/4 inch out > Reynold's pre amps (A&B channel combined). More info here: http://line6.com/support/topic/628-sound-bleeding-through-when-guitar-volume-pot-on-0/ s
  22. I've tried a few amps and I was never fully happy with them. The one I settled for has a great clean tone but it lacks the distortion I'm after. I figure it's better to distort a clean amp than to try to get a clean sound from a distorted one. I don't want to have 2 amps on stage so my choice is to use a distortion effect to give my clean amp more gain, I prefer to have a processor where I can create patches rather than doing a song and dance with pedals, I got an endorsement by Line 6 so naturally went for a HD500. That's my 2c. s
  23. Cheers for clearing that up, so in other words rather than a L stereo and R stereo signal, both left and right output will have the same mono signal? At this stage one mono signal is all I require going into one amp on stage. What I do is split the chain so two amps are visible and move the effects in front of channel A so it looks something like this: __ FX__FX__Amp A __ __ / Mixer \ ___________Amp B __ Amp B is muted, Amp A is centred in the mix and no amps are selected so they are both blacked out on the screen. s
