  1. Thanks, while on the topic of HD Edit, is it possible to use the move feature for FX or amps? Is it possible to split paths, move FX up and down the chain, etc.? s
  2. Is it possible to edit global 'Utilities' settings such as output (studio/direct, combo power amp, etc.) from HD Edit or is HD Edit strictly for 'local' settings on patches? s
  3. Just wanting to know how to set the audio device. I'm using a Windows laptop, so what is the audio system? Wave Out, ASIO, Direct Sound? When I hit ASIO a whole lot of fields require to be filled in, including a configuration screen. Input and Output device are both set to HD500 Sample format? Input and output channels are both set to 2. Sample rate 44100Hz Buffers 8 x 1024. Is this all correct? Is there more settings to configure to connect it to the HD500? s
  4. I exchanged the Samson and picked up a pair of Mackie MR5 Mk.3's. It's a vast improvement. I still get the honking sound when I palm mute the open D string or D's elsewhere on the fretboard, I imagine the likelihood both brands have the same natural frequency that it must be the natural frequency of the guitar? I notice if I barely mute further back on the bridge it eases off a little, not sure if I can EQ it out, any suggestions? s
  5. I have all the factory patches on my hard drive, I eliminated all the doubles for a start, some are even there three times but I notice some have slight variations. s
  6. Ah, cheers, it just seemed odd that it was there even after I closed it down. s
  7. I've spoken to my dealer (no not that one) and I'm okay to return them and upgrade. In my budget are KRK Rockit 5's and Mackie MR5's. I'm reading on other forums and although subjective the Mackie's tend to get the more votes. For all I know these guys are mixing dance music so any opinions on which to compliment the HD500? s
  8. Thanks, I had a feeling it was like that but I saw an asterisk on my POD so wasn't sure what was going on. s
  9. I've tried searching for this answer here with no result. As the title suggests, once I edit a patch in HD Edit and want to go back to the original patch how is this done easily? Is there an 'Esc' type button/function that can go back in one hit? I've tried hitting the pedal on the board (as you would without HD Edit) but the asterisk is still there. I've even tried closing down HD Edit and it's still there. s
  10. I've given them a go and I'll have to do some more tweaking but I like the sounds. There is one very annoying thing, I downtune to D and when I palm mute the open D string (C note) or palm mute other C notes, the C5 on the A string or even high on the E string I get a rather boomy 'honk'. I think it's hitting the resonant frequency of the unit. Do any of you experience this? I'm on the verge of returning it, would a larger speaker have the same issue? s
  11. Just got it delivered, they only sent one (Samson A5). I should've checked the ad properly. If it does the job I'm okay with it but is there any advantage of having two monitors versus one? I guess for a band recording you do need both left and right channel but for personal use it should be okay right? Also do you need two powerpoints for two speakers or do they link? s
  12. Here is a great video with demonstration on how strings squeak. ;) s
  13. .... and don't be afraid to experiment, these are all rules of thumb; there's nothing to stop you making your own unique sound. s
  14. I'm thinking it may be the case you have to marry the POD with the right gear and some amps respond to it better than others. s
  15. You can read up all you like but until you get it home and use it on your own gear you can't tell what it's going to sound like. Personally I bought it first due to some good reviews and I didn't mind reading all the guides, asking questions on the forum, doing extra research, etc. spending a lot of time on this did make me learn a LOT but at the end of the day I'd like to see that effort rewarded with some good tones I'm happy with. s
  16. His Behringer survived, he must go out and buy himself a lottery ticket immediately! s
  17. Also, you have to step hard on the pedal to actuate it, you can't easily do it by hand. s
  18. I prefer to do it this way on my practice amp. s
  19. Yeah, I'm noticing the drives have to be on extremely low and I do get a decent result, I also have a hot bridge pickup, Bill Lawrence L-500XL and I do turn it down a touch on occasion. The cleans are sounding great and the HD500 does very will in this respect. The neck pick up is a Kent Armstrong, I think it's a Vintage B12 when I switch from a clean to distortion the fizz is right there especially if I hit a low string and let it ring out while arpeggiating other strings in the chord. The solution for that is previously mentioned - splitting paths with distortion in one path and mixing it to taste. s
  20. I've also found this and a compressor or EQ at the end of the chain helped too. Yep, two different patches. The Treadplate Pre and F-ball Pre are my faves, I also prefer the blackback cab but I'm experimenting with 'No Cab' atm and yeah drive, presence and sometimes even volume are usually low. The thing is I'd like to set them higher but the fizz kills it for me so I'm trying to get a bit more gain with some of the distortion FX and have to set the drive low there too. s
  21. Thanks for clearing this up, I was going nuts wondering where I'm going wrong. Our other guitarist has a Boss and he gets some good sounds, I suspect it's also his amp which is superior to mine. I've yet to try plugging the POD into that to compare I thought I'd try fixing up my sound on my own amp first. He's also big on reverb and delay and I've put some of it down to that as well, I'm not a fan of 'watery' sounds. What are some ways to reduce the fizz and are there other MFX units that deal with it better without breaking the bank? My ultimate use is for gigging; recording and rehearsing on a cheap practice amp is just for laying ideas down and practice respectively, I'm not as picky but other members of the band complain about it. s
  22. Fender Strats? Have you ever owned one though? They're definitely different but you get used to it, the HM Strat is a different beast altogether. s
