  1. Cheers, I agree that tones thin out with more gain and don't like distortion to be too fizzy. s
  2. Many forums have these threads so I thought I’d get the ball rolling here. My band – Lycanthia We did a show with Eluveitie on Saturday night, my favourite gig to date. Feel free to like us on facebook. https://www.facebook.com/LycanthiaOfficial?fref=ts s
  3. I have a Reynold's amp, pic here: http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/lycanthia/389779-lycanthia-endorsements-gear.html It has two independent pre amp channels via separate inputs and a switch to link them. I could A/B them but I like to link them to sculpt the tone. It's not a high gain amp, it's based on the sound of 50's/60's amps and has a wonderful clean tone and I now use the POD for more gain. I'll try boosting lows/mids and adding a bit of delay and see how it goes. It sounded pretty good to me when I was tweaking it but we're a 6 piece with keys & violin so I guess in a live situation I'll need more mids to push the sound through. s
  4. Sorry, HD500 > amp head input > quad > mic. on stage > PA. I used both the Line6 Heavy Distortion effect combined with gain from the amp. s
  5. I'm a big fan of his work, I've yet to get used to the way he picks out and removes those annoying frequencies. It will come with practice I guess. s
  6. I realise the pot. is not truly at zero, that is obvious. I'm just trying to understand why the patch is so much more sensitive than other patches and how to rectify it. I may look into gain staging to try to reduce it. s
  7. I was using a patch that had only effects, no amp/cab selected, going straight into an amp head and quad on stage. I pretty much thought it was to do EQ, I'll look into adding EQ's to the patch to boost the lows/mids, hopefully without making it sound too boomy. s
  8. Did a show on Saturday night and the sound guy said he loved the clean tone, nice and thick but my distortion was very thin. He said he adjusted it on the go, thickening it up whenever I’d go to distortion but said it would make a sound guy’s job much easier if I had the tone thicker to begin with. I’m not exactly sure what he means by fattening up the sound, another guy in the audience said it sounded too ‘trebley’. Any suggestions? s
  9. Wiring is good and from my other patches there is no sound bleed, my guess is that when a vol. pot. is at 0 it's not 100% off. The patch I have is somehow picking up a very minute signal and amplifying it. The other patches I've downloaded and factory patches aren't as sensitive for some reason. Each channel is stereo, a mono effect will turn your stereo signal into mono and that doesn't matter to me as I'm going mono into one live amp for use on stage. I'm following Meambobbo's advice from his website. Use Channel A Only for Single-Amp Patches The easiest way to design your patches if you are not using dual amps is to place everything in Channel A (the top line after the signal path split). Then you mute Channel B in the mixer and pan Channel A to centre. http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/quickGuide s
  10. Jackson Kelly with a Bill Lawrence 500 XL pick up, it's a hot pick up but the sound doesn't bleed through on other patches. Also have put in a CTS vol. pot., 500k if my memory serves me correctly. s
  11. I've started to set up a patch, so far an EQ, Compressor, Distortion (Heavy Dist) and Parametric EQ in that order, all are on channel A with no amps selected yet as I'm going into my live amp head and quad. Input 1 is set to 'Guitar'. Input 2 set to 'Variax'. On the mixer, channel A is set to centre < 0% > and channel B is muted. When I turn the volume knob on my guitar down to 0, I can hear sound coming through the amp when I pluck the strings, it outputs a clean tone minus all the distortion. On the other patches I've downloaded from Customtone there is no bleed through but I want to learn to build patches from scratch so I learn what's going on rather than customising other patches. What could be causing the sound to still ring through when the volume is supposedly switched off? s
  12. Yes you can use effects only and it could be the settings on your amp models need to be adjusted to clear the muddiness. Have a read of your manuals and this guide. http://www.foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/ s
  13. Your amp has a preamp and a power amp. The power amp has the sole purpose of amplifying the preamp (in most cases), the power amp also has it's own distortion/gain when you crank it. If you bypass the preamp, the power amp will amplify whatever is in its place, but it's not 100% clean, add to this the power amp's own distortion/gain. s
  14. Here's my gear, note the very rare amp. http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/lycanthia/389779-lycanthia-endorsements-gear.html s
  15. I'm not receiving email notifications when replies are made to the topics I've posted in. I've checked my settings in my profile and all seems good. Is there something I've missed selecting to receive a notification after I've posted in a thread or are the notifications only to threads I've started? s

  17. I often tune using a tuner then fine tune to eliminate the 'beats'. Since I usually play power chords I'll pluck the both the low E string open while fretting the B on the A string, second fret (or any power chord) then fine tune the A string while the E string is still ringing till the beats are eliminated. Then do the same with A string and G string fretted on 2nd fret and so on. With G & B strings I'll fret A & D (2nd & 3rd fret respectively) and with B & E strings I'll fret D & G (both on 3rd fret) as these are the fingerings I tend to use. s
