Nothing to see here... everything is fine... move along

What?!?! No unfocused rage? No overly coddled, narcissistic "why haven't MY needs been catered to" diatribes about the cold, heartless, profit obsessed corporate shills at Line 6? Well that's it!! I'm not coming here anymore...it's no fun. :P -

Well all I know is I've been driving the same car for almost 10 years now, and it STILL isn't a helicopter. Isn't it time that it did something more interesting and complicated than just drive me around? Getting really tired of sitting in traffic... -
Blasphemer! Nothing is anybody's fault anymore, didn't you get the memo? Just a matter of time before the inability to dial in sounds is officially labeled a "disease" in the DSM...POD crappytoneaphobia. We'll all be able to sue L6 for the cost of therapy! Well gotta go...time to polish my "Just Because I Exist" trophy. Is the day's work EVER done? 😉

Lol.... Actually, this whole thing proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that advertising works. Slap a famous guitar player's name on an amp, and presto! Instant sought-after classic.

Yup...came face-to-face with a similar situation in the studio just last night. A while back I had sold an old Mesa 2x12 cab that I never liked. No matter what I ran through it, I could never get anything but mid-range honk out of it. Sold it to a buddy who owns a small project studio and indie label...we've been collaborating on a bunch of stuff lately. Mic'ed up with an Orange Dark Terror amp (a very cool little amp...and absurdly loud for something that toggles between 7W or 14W), we were getting some really lush high gain tones...in the control room, where I had planted myself. BUT...out in the next room with the amp, still sounded kinda nasal, and not my cup of tea. Point is, what ends up on a record ain't the same as the sound in the room...so if your yard stick for evaluating any modeled version of an amp is the tone on so-and-so's album, you're in for some disappointment, or pleasant surprises...depends on the day, lol.

There's an exception to every rule, but most "authorized service centers" are a crap shoot. This is not peculiar to Line 6, but rather a problem with warranty work in general, imho. Don't care if we're talking about washing machines, PA speakers, or snowblowers. Nobody can "specialize" in fixing every unit under the sun, so it's hit or miss. You're best chance is always with the manufacturer. That being said, the local place replaced the fan assembly the first time. Took a month...which is the other problem with doing it locally...it's a virtual guarantee that no matter what needs fixing, you will hear the following two things: 1) "Never heard of that problem before", and then once a diagnosis is made 2) "We have to order a part" ...so you wait... Problem persisted after the first "fix". Thereafter, I dealt with L6 directly. To their credit, since I had already tried to have it fixed once, L6 paid for the shipping. With the transit time, just a few days shy of another month of down-time. I was told that the fan was replaced again, along with the "main board"...what that had to do with the rattling fan at high volume, I have no idea, but if it needed replacing, so be it. So far, it seems OK...but as I said, time will tell. I'm always leary of continuing to bet on a horse that stumbles right out of the gate. They have openly acknowledged the design issue...supposedly a new fan assembly was designed to address the problem (there's a thread about it around here somewhere). But that begs the question, why didn't it get fixed the first time? Your guess is as good as mine..As for what it means if a unit is out of the warranty period is beyond me...but in my experience, out of warranty means just that... -
If it's not breathtaking right out of the box, then I don't want it...plus, for the $50 they're charging for the Metal Pack, it really should get rid of crabgrass too... ;)

Don't get me wrong...the Stagesource stuff sounds amazing, but I'm less than optimistic about longevity issues with the fan assembly. Mine has been replaced twice and it's only 5 months old. If I had it to do over again, I would have looked at other FRFR options, and probably would have been able to go stereo for just a couple hundred bucks more than I spent on the one L2T, and I wouldn't have had the jackhammer rattle to deal with. The accelerometer is nice, as I do use it as a monitor live for my stage volume (POD out to FOH, etc, etc), but I'm not sure that's worth the extra expense. If I had it to do over again, I'd have gone with something else. -
I'm starting to like these "How Dare They? / What Were They Thinking? / Have They All Gone Deaf?" threads... :P

"Justified feedback", if you actually care to see it implemented, generally doesn't begin with a slap in the face by calling people names. But go ahead and do it your way, I don't mind. I'm sure it will change the world. It's also worth noting that YouTube, the use of which you seem to regard as the pinnacle of technological awareness, was built right here in the "technologically developing" US...but why let facts get in the way of an old fashioned, incoherent rant. Rave on, friend.

Or how things are tweaked in Workbench...I don't keep the action insanely low, and there's no fret buzz to speak of...but like many others, when I moved to the newer JTV firmware, I found the Spank model to incredibly tinny and basically unusable...nails on a chalkboard compared to the prior version. It required dialing back the string volumes, mostly on the E, A, and D strings to get rid of the tin-can clank that I suddenly had, so that accounts for some of the difference. But you can't blame the difference on the set-up, because nothing had changed from on minute to the next except the firmware...from one version to the next, the Strat models are worlds apart.
-
I still play my Strat regularly...A/B'd them 1000 times. Even the stock single coils on the Strat are hotter than the modeled ones. Now that doesn't make the model "bad", just different. Same goes for A/B-ing the model with the 69's mags. With the same patch, there's a huge difference in gain...again, that doesn't make one better than the other, but you could still hear the difference if your ears were packed with mud...

Nobody at Line 6 acknowledged my birthday last year...and it was a big one. It's almost like they don't care at all. I also just dropped my spoon...can L6 send someone to get it for me? Ugh...
-
Very subjective...I find that it works OK for the "barely-there" gain tones...where the amp is just starting to break up, think SRV rhythm tones...but if you want to push it at all for a thicker Eric Johnson-type lead tone, I just can't get it there. They seem to have modeled a Strat with super low-output pickups. On the plus side, I kinda like the single coils in the 69...but the noise is maddening, as it is with all single coils.

You can't keep your patches and load the new presets at the same time. It's one or the other. If you want the new presets, then save all your patches to your computer, then reflash the firmware without keeping your existing patches. Afterwards, you can reload your patches from the saved bundle to whatever set-list(s) you want to store them in.

I had same problem with my L2T...it's now been "fixed" twice. First time at a local "authorized service center", a phrase that I find difficult to say out loud without laughing and/or choking. 2nd time it went back to the mothership, and so far seems to be OK. Time will tell...but honestly, as great as it sounds, and as convenient a package it is in terms of weight and haul-ability for a spine that isn't 25 years old anymore, if it starts rattling again, I will eat the expense and go with one of the other FRFR options out there. Not going through repairing the same unit multiple times, that's just ridiculous, and involves way too much down-time. For the first 3 months of ownership, the thing was only in my possession for about 3 weeks...the rest of the time it was either in transit, or sitting on a shelf waiting to be repaired. Ironically, the only reason I went with this thing in the first place, was because I like the idea of the different operating modes (electric, acoustic, PA, etc...). Yet now with the global EQ not functioning via L6 Link, it's a moot point anyway, as I am running it with the 1/4" outs from the POD...could have went with a less costly option, and saved myself a lot of trouble. Hindsight is always 20/20...

Does not keeping "existing patches" erase user setlists?

Little known fact...Ponce de Leon was just looking for a bar with a decent jukebox. Local indigenous personnel had a sense of humor...had the poor bastard traipsing all over Florida for the "Fountain of Youth"...advertising has sucked for centuries, and will continue to suck as long as there's money. :P -
Generally you run an amp into a higher impedance cab without damaging anything (4 ohm output into an 8 ohm cab, as long as you're not red-lining the amp), you'll just lose power...but providing a smaller load than the amp is expecting probably isn't good...I would have thought that you'd blow a speaker before roasting the amp, but who knows? Always best to match impedance, then there's no worries.

Line 6 POD HD500x - sound breaks on the bridge pickup of guitar.

+1...sounds like an issue with the toggle switch. When in doubt, blast it with contact cleaner. If that doesn't do it, then you may have a loose wire somewhere, or the switch itself could be toast. -
All in good fun, just goofing, lol... The occasional "Round and Round" or "Shout At The Devil" can still be heard wafting out of my iTunes "guilty pleasures" playlist. Nobody's gonna accuse any of those guys of being legendary songwriting pioneers, either...just don't tell anybody. :)

The sentimental tacky crap model won't be available until the next bunch of model packs are released... ;)
