Exactly...five dollars an amp. I'm gonna say that again, because I think it bears repeating...Five. Dollars. An. Amp. Now if they were forcing you to buy a bundle of 146 amps at $5 apiece, then you'd have a legitimate gripe. But we're talking about fifty bucks...skip the next 8 half-gallon decaf frappa-whatevers from Starbucks... Also, you may very well surprise yourself. I ended up liking several of the amp models (from the original stock set and the new bundles) that I would never have anticipated beforehand. Ignoring any of them on principle alone, because you just assume that you'll have no use for them, is a waste. There's tons of potential in there...five bucks each is a bargain. And if you don't like one...$5 lost. Oh the humanity! We've all wasted five bucks on far worse things...a beer at the ballgame costs twice that...

Try them out and see if you like them...if so, that's reason enough.

Ghost notes in Drop tunings
cruisinon2 replied to clay-man's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
That won't rule anything out... the 1/4" carries both the mag and modeled signal too. You can use either models or mags no matter how it's connected, you just can't control anything on the guitar with the POD wihtout the VDI. If the cause really is that some mag signal is making it through along with the piezo signal, then the problem would be with the POD, as Charlie said. The only definitive test would be to eliminate any and all mag signal from the escaping the guitar...and there's only one way to do that. If "ghost notes" are still present in that scenario, only then could you rule out mag signal as the cause. -
Ghost notes in Drop tunings
cruisinon2 replied to clay-man's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Unfortunately, the only real way to test this particular theory is to disconnect the mags completely...which obviously requires some surgery. But at least we'd have an answer... Either way though, it won't solve a blessed thing for the original problem the OP had/has above, however which is all palm-muting induced mechanical cross-talk between adjacent strings and piezo saddles...you can yank the mags right out of the gutiar, and it won't make that problem go away. It's a physical issue, and a (current) limitation of the tech. I'd love for somebody smarter than me to come up with a solution...but I don't see one coming anytime soon. Physics is such a hinderance in the world...reminded of it every time I drop my keys trying to get in the front door...damn gravity. :P -
Ghost notes in Drop tunings
cruisinon2 replied to clay-man's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
That's independent of how the alt tuning is triggered, though. He said that there are no ghost notes when the POD forces a tuning, but they appear if he manually selects one on the gutiar itself. In both scenarios, the VDI is still carrying the two signals. Why would it make any difference where the alt tuning command originates? -
Not always...some companies (which I won't bother to name so as not to offend...but they run the gamut from guitars to motorcycles and everything in between), thrive on the relentless pursuit (and comically agressive marketing) of "tradition"...mothball scent available for a modest fee. It's a wonderful excuse for not bothering to try anything new, and a terrific way to keep overhead low, if you don't have to hire and R&D department.

Nothing...nothing at all. There is no new firmware. These are not the droids you're looking for... ;)

Ghost notes in Drop tunings
cruisinon2 replied to clay-man's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Well that's a new one...and it makes even less sense than the usual complaints. No matter how they're triggered, the alt tunings originate at the JTV. Whether it's done manually or by the POD should have no impact at all. An alt tuning is either engaged, or it isn't. Can't see why it would matter how it gets turned on...weird. -
JTV-69 Acoustic Model Issues
cruisinon2 replied to changingparadigm's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I'm not an L6 anointed expert, but I can't see it being a set-up issue either. I use that J200 model quite a lot...it's really the only one of the acoustics that I like, and I've never noticed any pitches jumping out at me, so it's not universal. That leaves the guitar itself as the source of the problem. Many guitars will resonate oddly at certain frequencies...dead spots and notes that just die are a common occurence, I've owned several. So if that can occur, I don't see why it would be out of the realm of possibility to have an axe that just seems to ring a little louder at a certain pitch...couple that with piezos, which are far more sensitive than a mag pickup, and a boomy note or two wouldn't surprise me at all. What I do know is the JTVs are not samplers...there are no canned pitches being triggered anywhere, so that's not it. Most, if not all of the oddities that these guitars exhibit (many of which are associated with the alternate tunings) can be boiled down to physical/mechanical phenomena...piezo crosstalk, "ghost notes", etc... As good as it is, some of the technology isn't quite there yet...point is, I wouldn't hold my breath for a firmware solution. I seriously doubt that the issue is software, or we'd all have the exact same issues. -
LOL...if it is a bug, it's a doozie. Since the two functions have nothing whatsoever to do with each other, I suspect it would have taken me a while to put two and two together. Good thing you noticed the connection. Gonna give that a try tonite, see if mine does it.

I think that was actually in the brochure for the original...which would make this version a modeling masterpiece, lol ;)

In all fairness to L6, I think we should give everyone a chance to finish b1tching about the current model packs packs before we start demanding more stuff to whine about... :P

Look at it this way...you won't be able to buy that many different tone options from anywhere else for the price of a guitar strap and a few sets of strings. And if you don't like them, you have 30 days to get your money back.

In 20+ years of messing with more multi-fx units than I would be able to remember in one sitting, I've yet to meet one that had a wah that was up to snuff...always wondered why, as there are certainly more complicated fx. Anyway, I always find myself going back to using an external one. Love my Fulltone Clyde Deluxe...

Inconsistent string volume of JTV models
cruisinon2 replied to egriffith's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Almost seems like that may have been a physical issue with the frets and/or the neck itself. I've had several guitars over the years that have had dead spots at certain frets. Sometimes the fret isn't seated properly, or it could be that the neck just has an odd resonance at that particular frequency. Fret issue could be dealt with, but if it's just the way that piece of wood vibrates, you're kinda stuck with it. I replaced the neck on one of my Strats for that reason...took care of the problem. -
Anybody else wish that line 6 would provide us with new Cab/Mic Options too

Tone from HD500 changes after long time turned on
cruisinon2 replied to avledoliveira's topic in POD HD
While anything is possible, if you're playing for extended periods of time, particularly through headphones, what you're experiencing is most likely ear fatigue. You will perceive a difference, where none actually exists. Well known and well documented phenomenon. It's rather unlikely that the sounds being produced is changing at all. -
Only problem for me is I run the JTV into the POD with the VDI cable, so I have no choice but to use the fx loop. Otherwise, I'd be running it before the POD.

Ahh...a voice of reason amidst the irritable masses. Quick, change your screen name, lest you be labeled an apologist L6 fanboy, lol.
