  1. Unfortunately a lot of it will boil down to your personal preference...test driving different ones first would be the way to go, but generally not feasible unless you've got buddies with a bunch of different gear. Eventually you'll be stuck rolling the dice.
  2. I would think the mixer would be your best bet, followed by channel volume...if I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will show up to tell me so, lol.
  3. Yes, obviously my feeble mind is certainly incapable of absorbing such an "evolved" concept. If its your cup of tea, that's fine. Enjoy...more for you. Sqeeze 68 notes into an octave if you like, but I'll pass.
  4. Yep...the only chance you have at all of getting even remotely close to a "good" live tone if you do most of your tweaking with cans, or at low amp volumes, is to tweak while playing along with some kind of backing track...preferably something similar to whatever you'll be playing live. And even then, "in the neighborhood" is the best you can hope for. Adjustments will need to be made at stage volume. Listening to the guitar by itself will almost never work.
  5. I've never had a volume issue with the Carvin into a 4x12...plenty of headroom. Rarely have it cranked past 1-2 o'clock, with POD master vol around 3 o'clock....and my drummer is a gorilla, beats the daylights out of those things, lol. And yes, I've been using it with the POD HD for a little over a year now. Quite satisfied with the sound I get out of it, with the exception of my acoustic patches. That's the only reason I'm migrating towards an FRFR rig...progress has been slowed due to technical difficulties, however, lol.
  6. Interesting...I'm intrigued by their FRFR 2x12, being on the lookout for other FRFR options in case my L2T flunks it's 2nd repair attempt at silencing the rattling fan.
  7. Carvin TS100, been using one for years...nice tube power amp, won't break the bank. 2 channels, 50W each if you want to run stereo...or you can run it in bridged mono for 100W in to a single cab. Has an impedance selector switch (4, 8, or 16 ohms), which is a nice feature that many power amps lack, so you can run it into just about any cab on the planet without load issues.
  8. You should be able to set the pitch glide to an octave above...but the problem will be with the B and high E strings, which on a genuine 12 string, are just doubled. The pitch glide will try and raise those notes by an octave as well. That's probably gonna make it sound kinda shrill and annoying...
  9. If it makes me closed minded, so be it...but 12 notes are enough. All of that stuff will never sound anything but out of tune to me. May as well be nails on a chalkboard.
  10. But I want my free stuff...WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
  11. Even then what? Either the nut is cut properly with string spacing appropriate to the neck's width, or it isn't. The frets are either properly dressed, or they're not. If your E strings are falling off the neck on a regular basis, then you have one, or both of the aforementioned problems. The necks are obviously still hit or miss, even after the early problems were supposedly addressed. You can either keep swapping guitars until the end of time, hoping that you get one where everything works, or fix this one. The neck issues are easily dealt with, just requires a little money...perhaps not the ideal scenario for you, but a solution nonetheless. Mighty mite necks are just a little over $100...it's pretty much a guaranteed improvement. I didn't want to spend any more money on my JTV 3 months after I got it, but the neck was a dog, so I bit the bullet and did what was necessary. Couldn't be happier.
  12. Open the fetzer valve on the POD to about 2 o'clock, then face east while juggling 3 chipmunks...this will summon the Maple EQ Spirit. Take notes, he doesn't like repeating himself.
  13. What's the neck scale on those? Looks a little shorter than 25.5"...maybe it's just the photo?
  14. As a means to this particular end, check out www.jamtrackcentral.com Lotsa good learning tools there, and everything is a la carte, so you're not stuck subscribing to anything. Tons of instrumental compositions in a variety of styles, price generally includes the full track, backing track to play to (sometimes including a track at a slower tempo to work through the more complicated passages), tabs and standard notation of the whole piece, and often a video of the artist playing through it. I've discovered several super-talented players on there. Great for learning new approaches to improv and songwriting, that you can then adapt to your own compositions.
  15. Well for a demo, blood stains and weird smells would be the first things I'd look for...who knows where it's been, and how many of The Great Unwashed have had their mitts on it? ;) On the 89's, I've seen more complaints about the "plinky" low E string than anything else
  16. Anything is possible, but assuming that the input jack on the cab doesn't have any loose connections, it not very likely that the cabinet is the problem...just isn't much going on inside. It's just a box with speakers that spits out the signal you feed it. Whatever is wrong is most likely in the amp. Find another cabinet to plug into, and see if the same thing happens. If so, then you know it's the amp.
  17. No one, anywhere on earth, at any time, will ever be in a hurry to give you money. Consider it a win if the check arrives before Armageddon...

  19. Not to worry...I'm fairly certain that would prove too difficult for her to manage.

  21. I like guacamole...but oddly, not a fan of whole chunks of avocado.
  22. Now lets really get to the bottom of this Panini Press thing...why do feel the need to compress and singe the outer shell of a sandwich? Repressed anger? Scarred from being beaten up at recess as a kid, and now you take it out on lunch meat? :P
  23. Depends on what you do with them once they arrive...
  24. Well, if you're snapping tremelo arms every 6 months or so, its borderline miraculous that any of your strings survive the first strummed chord, lol. I think you and I have very different technical approaches...nothing wrong with aggressive playing of course, but i've never managed to bust a tremolo arm...lol.
  25. I think the next generation of PODs should be powered by hamster wheels, and the manual should be chiseled on stone tablets. Vintage , man... :P
