Is it possible to control Line 6 Spider IV's presets using a POD HD500x?
cruisinon2 replied to derrickLT's topic in POD HD
Not sure if it would work or not...but unless I'm mistaken, that amp has no fx loop...trying to run anything straight into the front (except a distortion box, or a wah) is gonna sound awful, especially an effect like a delay. Those two units really aren't designed to work together. I think the Spyder is really intended to be a stand alone device. -
Well what does a guitar sound like? Is it a nylon string sound? Steel string acoustic? Or maybe we should go all the way back to the first lutes, which had strings made from some unfortunate creature's entrails...those examples certainly are quite different from each other, but they still "sound like guitars". Neither one would be mistaken for a moose or a screech owl...

Huh...so far the Shiva is one of my favorites. I'm not using it for ultra-high gain tones though. But with the tube compressor and tube drive in front, I find it works especially well with the mags on the 69 (which I previously didn't use much at all), especially the neck, and neck/middle positions...punchy, cuts through nicely for leads.

Speaking as a Strat guy myself, unless you're really in love with the neck on the 69, give some thought to one of the replacement options out there...Warmoth, Mighty Mite, hell even a Fender neck if you have one you don't mind canibalizing...makes the 69 a different, and much improved instrument, imho. Don't have to spend a fortune, and it really takes it from a good guitar to a great one.

Mine works... Wood works too, but its tougher than on a regular guitar, with the circuit board and extra wires these things have attached to the sustain block.

Did you feel the 69 had a thinner profile, or thinner nut width? Or God forbid, both? I would think it almost impossible for anything to have a thinner nut width than the 69, so I'll assume we're talking profile...but even that's a little disconcerting. That would mean they actually managed to make a neck that's more of a tree-trunk than the 69, lol. I know it's a personal preference thing, but that would drive me nuts. Oh well, I'll cross my fingers and hope that the various Strat replacement options fit the new neck pocket.

Cool! Now all I need is a harp...and to learn how to play one. :)

Yeah...my '85 Plymouth Reliant got me from point A to point B, but I don't want it back, lol.

Say what's on your mind man...don't hold back, lol.

Uh oh...them's fightin' words, lol. I'm gonna buckle up :) -
Oops...guess I'm not paying attention today, lol. It could be malfunctioning somehow, I suppose. Fan would still be worth a try...

I have no experience with the Rocktron, but I've been a rack guy for many moons...it's always a good idea to have a big enough rack so you can leave an empty space between the power amp and whatever unit sits above it. If it's a single space unit, you might even try leaving an empty space above and below it, if it gets that hot. Back when I used to lug around a Marshall 9100 power amp (great amp, but 3 rack spaces and at least 60 lbs...never again, lol) I got a small fan that clipped to the back off the rack, to keep some air flowing across it.

I think I've seen this movie...

Clearly what's really important is the color of the socks that the guy who finally made the firmware available was wearing at the time. Green socks means fewer software bugs. Everybody knows that...

I only like my firmware updates on Tuesdays with a full moon...

If even that... ...and Line 6 still isn't paying my rent. Is it so much to ask? ;)

License or registration question
cruisinon2 replied to maxnew40's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Don't think it matters unless you were trying to get warranty work done, as you would probably run into trouble trying to register a serial # that's linked to someone else, but I don't think it applies to just doing a firmware update. You need to be logged in to download stuff, but I don't think it matters if the product is "registered" officially at all. I guarantee not everybody who owns one registers it...and I'm sure most have updated firmware at least once. -
If you don't like the amp's tone and only want to make use of its power section, then the 4 cable method is a waste of time. Just run guitar-->POD-->FX return on the amp. Your tone and all your fx will come from the POD, and all the amp will be doing is driving the speaker.

Not trying to beat anybody up...although I will say that the expectation for it to all be free is beyond ludicrous. There are no columns for happy thoughts or cool vibes on the quarterly reports, but I digress. Just attempting to provide a little perspective...
