I know of something similar occurring with other type computer interface signal processing setups. It seems that the noise resulted from the size the audio drivecache being so small that it was dumping its memory like clockwork. --- (see the ASIO driver settings) . setting the size as small as possible to minimize latency when overdubbing tracks may bear some guilt.
