Can anyone explain how (if it's possible) you would hook up an Eventide H9 into the effects loop of the Stomp XL and the Stomp XL hooked up to an amp using the 4CM. Can this be done? Are there other ways of doing this? My amp only has one effects loop. Thx!

Hi all, This is what I'd like to do....tell me if I can and how to do it. I have a Mesa Boogie and I'd like to send the "front of amp tones" (Wah, compressor, EQ, distortion) to the Mesa and the modulation, delay and reverb to the Mesa effects loop. So right now we're talking straight up 4CM. Ok next, I'd like to send a different amp tone (amp model) to the Powercab along with the other tones like distortion, modulation, delay.... Can the Stomp do that? To further complicate things, I'd also like to plug a second guitar into the Stomp or use my dual outputs on my guitar (humbuckers/peizo). Can that be done? How would everything get hooked up? Thanks!

Ok. I see that now. This makes the XL even more interesting now....

I just looked again...the HX FX has two effects loops. The XL has just one. They both have two outputs. So then my question is this....for the XL, in order to output the signal to two amps, you could 4cm to one amp, but the second amp would only be a single input to the front? Do I have that right? If that's correct, if the second amp was a tube amp that might be a problem, but if the second amp is a Powercab, would that not even be an issue? Or even a PA speaker? As in, there's no disadvantage to not have a second effects loop on the XL IF your second and is going to a FRFR speakers. Is that correct? Many thanks for the clarification on that...

The Stomp is hardly like the HXFX. Three switches vs all the switching and capabilities of the HXFX. No...the Stomp is nothing like it.

Does anyone out there think like me.... Was the HX FX unit a missed opportunity in not including the amp modeling and display similar to the Stomp? I personally would prefer to have the expression pedal separate from the unit, but otherwise the I/O options are perfect. The size and footprint are perfect. Everything is pretty much they way I'd like to use it.... except it's missing the amp modeling. The LT is too big and I don't really want to use the expression pedal on the board, but that's just me. Now the Quad Cortex seems even more appealing. It's way, way more expensive, but has all the right features, capabilities and in the right form factor and it's new technology. IDK....I know I'm just complaining, but I hope Line 6 reps read these things and take notes. I'm starting to think about holding off on Line 6 and see what they come out with next. Thoughts? Or should I just shut up......I'm going to go practice more....thx!

I can say this, am am heavily leaning towards the amp-in-the-room feeling/solution. I really don't expect to take this thing out although its possible. The problem for me is that the best solution would be the Powercab 212 Plus which is set at a ridiculously high cost premium. Way too high actually. So for the cost of the L2t you can get a Powercab 112 Plus. Then, when I look for the value of the L2t vs. 112 Plus, the separation becomes much more difficult to make. One thing I'm having a hard time understanding is the acoustic guitar performance of the Powercabs. I know the L2t is great, but I have not been able to nail down the Powercab and I cannot test them at the store...not carried. So much gear....so little time and $$ :)

Hi. Can anyone offer their opinion and experience with this choice? I would like to add a speaker to my home studio that simplifies my set up. Currently I have a 2x12 Mesa Boogie. I can run Helix models in front of the Mesa or into the effects loop. But I want to add the ability to run those amp/cab models into a separate speaker that's more optimized for the Helix tones. I don't play out, but my son might want to use some of my gear for show here and there, but playing out is not a huge concern. ALSO, I would like to replace my Genz Benz acoustic amp at the same time. Which of my three options would fit that use case? Powercab? L2 speaker? or a quality PA speaker? I'm thinking between $750 and $1000 is about the max and I'd look used for sure. The QSC K series or Yamaha PA's are good options that I'm looking at. Which option would you say would do the best at Helix amp models AND an acoustic guitar amp AND also be good for vocals (just threw that in....)

Ok….that funny you mention the expression pedal option. That was one way I figured it could work, but I felt there was a more elegant solution. it’s not terribly complicated either. I just have to get used to the UI. I got pretty familiar with the 500X, so I imagine I’ll catch on quick. Need to save your notes!!! thank you so much guys!

Hi. Can someone take a stab at this “switching” problem and let me know if the Stomp can handle this condition. I think it can, but I’m not sure how it would work…. Ok, I’ve got a Carvin guitar with some fancy electronics. This guitar has a humbucker out, a piezo out and a MIDI out. No split coil. No switches to control which ‘out’ is hot or cut. So this presents a problem… This is what I’d like to be able to do. Think Jesus of Suburbia or Behind Blue Eyes (or a bazillion other songs) where you have an acoustic guitar part that switches back and forth between a humbucker electric tone. Can I run both guitar outputs into the Stomp with the humbucker line using a traditional signal chain including an amp model, delay, verb and stuff and run that signal out to my guitar amp (Mesa Boogie) AND the piezo line run through an acoustic patch including some basic stuff like chorus, delay and reverb and run that out to the Genz Benz amp? AND the HX Stomp would need to have a single switch assigned to either have the Mesa Boogie ON and the Genz Benz OFF and with a foot switch click they’d flip AND a second switch would be assigned to turn both on at the same time. With DSP limitations aside, can this be done? Huge thanks to anyone that can share some knowledge about this.

Ok really good point. Yeah I'm not good enough to justify any of this stuff and the way I have used it in the past was simply on/off kinda things. So, in my case I might have three external pedals and I'd want to simply turn those on and off as needed. Then, the Stomp would be used for turning on and off the Stomp pedals such as a compressor or Phaser or EQ pedal. I've typically thought of these units as simple stomp boxes. I know that very limiting in my thinking, but that's largely because I don't understand the more advanced applications....why? Did I mention I'm not good enough to justify any of this fun stuff!! So as my skill grows I expect to learn more. Thanks!!

Hello all, looking for some use case help.... Some of the bigger complaints about the Stomp are with the lack of a bunch of foot switches and with only three, you're kinda limited. But when you start adding external pedals to the chain, does that effectively mitigate that complaint? So for me, I think of the Stomp as a upgrade M9 with the addition of amp modeling. Totally cool. I would probably continue using at the very least my Medusa chorus/tremolo pedal and probably my delay pedal, maybe also a drive pedal. So with that in the chain, does that reduce the need for the Stomp to have more than three foot switches or not so much?? I guess I can't quite picture this thing in use so much... Clearly using external pedals will reduce the need for DSP, so there's an added benefit. Thoughts?

Hi all, I'm curious about Stomp users and your opinions of the "lack of extra foot switches". Do you find just three is restrictive or is it just fine for most uses? After getting the Stomp, do you wish you went for the XL? I don't play live, this is just fun screwing around. My son plays live, but doesn't use a lot of pedals and prefers very simple rigs. He typically uses my gear. His personal amp is the AmpOne (amazing amp btw....) and either the Stomp or Stomp XL would be great. I'm just trying to understand from Stomp users what their take is on three switches and if that causes problems. Should I just suck it up and go with the XL? Idk....maybe I should just do nothing and practice more... Then, if there are any XL users out there that find the extra controls a huge value, let me know. My skill definitely does not warrant any of this stuff, but I also hate having gear that leaves me wishing for something better. Maybe there's some element about the XL that helps players learn how to play faster through electric foot shock... maybe there are other reasons to go with the XL??? Thoughts?

Ok great....I was thinking the POD GO would be limiting in this case, but....can you confirm the Stomp can in fact output parallel paths? This would/should result in having TWO sounds/tones being heard buy two amps/speakers at once. Is that right? In practice I should be able to have the humbucker guitar out and peizo out each have their own path and separate output that I could plug into my Alto PA speaker which has two 1/4" inputs. This would then combine the humbucker and peizo into one mix. Do I have this right?

Hi all, here's my problem, can it be solved.... I have a Carvin MIDI guitar that has a 1/4" humbucker output and a separate 1/4" peizo output (it also has a midi out). I would like to run the two 1/4" outputs to a Line 6 "Helix" product, but I'm not sure which one and if it can do what I'm trying to do...here's it is. I'd like to run the humbuckers into the Line 6 box and out to my Mesa Boogie or PA speaker (Alto). That output could either carry a pre-amp tone or not. Using the 4-cable method might be good here as well. But then at the same time, I'd like to run the 1/4" peizo output from my guitar into the Line 6 box and have it run through a cleaned up patch for the acoustic sound and output that to a Genz Benz amp or a PA speaker. Then, once I have all 428 wires hooked up and finished tripping over myself, the Line 6 box could control which amp and tones I'm hearing as well as mix them together for a bi-amp sound. Can this be done? If so, can it be done with the POD GO (don't think so), what about the HX Stomp (maybe) or any of the other Helix boxes? Thanks!!!

But this leads to a question now. By using the Amplifi Table Top hooked up this way, is it possible to STILL use analog external pedals. If so, where do they go, before or after the Table Top? I tried hooking up a pedal board IN FRONT of the Table Top and I couldn't tell how it sounded, it was after reheasal was over and the kids were hammering on the drumms and guitars. Too noisey. I couldn't even think!! Thoughts??

Hi all, Can anyone explain what I just observed at my son's rehearsal earlier today. During the break, I plugged my Amplifi Table Top into the DT25 a slightly different way that I've never done before. This time I bypassed the DT25 preamp and used just the power section of the amp. I did this by connecting the 1/4" LEFT OUT of the Table Top into the DT25 RETURN. Nothing was plugged into the amp SEND and the guitar was plugged into the Table Top. Nothing was plugged into the DT25 INPUT. So, effectively, the Line 6 Table Top took over complete control. The cabinet was a Carvin 2x12 with GT12's. The sound was amazing. We never heard the amp models better including when the HD500X was hooked up to the DT25 using the Link. Why was the Table Top so clean into the amp? There was no noise at all and the fattest distortion amps all sounded prefect. The Marshall tones also sounded great. So, why does it sound so good into the DT25 and why does it sound so much better than other tube amps that I have connected the same way?

I posted a similar question in the Firehawk forum but I think it works here as well. Ok. here's the deal. I love what the FH1500 can do, but I don't really like the price tag too much. So I'm looking for alternatives to the FH1500. Many people seem happy with the results from powered speakers that are popular with DJ's. I currently have the Amplifi Table Top. It's great but I use it almost only as a headphone amp because that's how it sounds best. I think a big reason is the flat response full range and most importantly the headphones are in stereo. So, if you happen to have a Firehawk FX pedal or and Amplifi device and wanted to power amp it, what would sound better, the Firehawk FX pedal/Amplifi plugged into TWO really good quality PA speakers in stereo OR the Firehawk 1500 configuration? I'm speaking in general terms for the moment. I'm thinking any of the good quality Mackie, JBL, QSC or others in a 12" design. How would that do in stereo vs the 1500? I personally am looking for the best way to make the digital sound of the Firehawk or Amplifi sound more lively and give it more texture and not sound so flat. I think that comes from the stereo effect. Thanks for your thoughts.

Does anyone else have experience running vocals into the FH1500? How are you doing it and how does it sound? Overall, I'm leaning towards the FH1500 over the L2t/L3t option. This is mostly because I can end up with effectively three amplifiers (e. gutar/a. guitar and bass). I can then thin the hurd at home and this will make the wify happy (I just wont tell her how much I paid!!) I assume you get the vocal sounds into the FH1500 via the left/right monitor XLR inputs. Is this correct? Thanks for the help.

Hi all, This may be a stipid post and really obvious to you all, but I'll say it anyway....Also, this has been said before, so it's nothing new, but I'll say it anyway....It's kind of important!! If you play your Amplifi device into a guitar amp, I have found the best sound comes when you turn off Speaker Cabinet Modeling. Select "No Cabinet". This will make it sound very thin when played through headphones, but when played into a guitar amp, it sounds significantly better. This is particularly noticable on distroted amps and settings. Clean tones are almost always good anyway you do it. Also, in terms of hooking up the Amplifi device to an amp, I'm have traditioanlly plugged my Table Top into the effects loop of the amp. This has worked well, bit I'm starting to think the better way is to bypass the internal amp controls completly and use the RETURN side only. I tested this out with a solid state Marshall amp last night and I think it sounded the best. The down side to doing that is that your amp is completly bypassed and the Line 6 controlls 100% of the show, whereas if you have the Amplifi device in the effects loop (traditioan way maybe) you can use the Amplifi AND the amps internal controls.I think it really depends on the amp you are using and the quality of speaker cabinet (not a model, but a real speaker). For this reason, it's best to know the different ways to connect the Amplifi device to an amp (in front of an amp, in the amp's effects loop and bypass the internal amp's controls). The bypass method is done like this: Amplifi LEFT/MONO OUT --> into Amp Effects Loop RETURN (SEND is NOT USED). Then plug a dummy 1/4" into the Amp's guitar INPUT (6" patch cable works great). Nothing is connected to the other end! You guitar is plugged into the Amplifi guitar INPUT. Good luck!!!

Hi all, Here's an update. I was able to get the Table Top correctly hooked up to the Flextone III and I cannot honestly say is was significantly better than the Flextone by itself. I think there were some tones that were slightly clearer, but it was not a WOW moment of clarity. The acoustic guitar using "no amp" didn't work at all and when I selected a piezzo amp, it did make sound, but it was not good. I don't think it was a good relationship. Also, the BT streaming music files sounded ok at best. So, this is still cool to know I can do it and I have another amp I can use with modeling and streaming.

Ahh! That's a good point about removing the Cab modeling. But this brings up a question. I assume you mean to remove the Cab model from the Amplifi device. Here's the reason I was asking... I'd like to see if I can put together a poor-mans version of the Firehawk 1500 (without the stereo feature). I'd like to be able to play my acoustic guitar (uning "no amp") and it sound as good as it would through a PA. The Amplifi TT would give me delay, chorus, veverb... I'd also like to be able to play music tracks through the Flextone III speaker (through the Amplifi BT connection). So this is why I was looking for a re-speaker FRFR option. BUT, if that also involves getting a crossover and messing around with a lot of electronics, then forgetaboutit! Thoughts?

Hello, ejones1989 recently started a post about the Hd500 And Flextone Iii and this got me thinking and fiddling around with my Amplifi Table Top. I got it working and it sounds pretty good, but... Has anyone re-speakered any of their cabinets to a FRFR speaker that might be better optimized for modeling tones? If so, what speaker can you recommend? It migth be worth investing a few bugs into the old Flextone III and drop a new speaker in there and give it a new life. Thoughts?
