  1. This is great information. Thank you. What I'm not clear on is this: When using the DT25 with the HD500, what Voice setting should the DT25 be set to or does it really matter at all? My confusion is simply this...if I'm set to a clean tone like Voice I, and then step on Program switch, let's say "D" on the HD500, which uses a Treadplate high gain setting, will it change the Voice on the amp or will it stay in Voice I and just use the HD500 amp model? What will the amp look like at this point? On a similar note, I have a Mesa Flux Five Overdrive pedal which I LOVE!! I image the best way to use that pedal with the DT25 would be in front of the amp and have the amp set to Voice I (clean). This amp will be used for my son's band (they are all HS freshmen now). It needs to be a simple setup for them on stage, so as I add complexity to their stage setup, I need to undertsand the system perfectly so I can be able to "fix" stuff on the fly seemlessly. Here are my current priorities I'd liek to get sorted out. 1. Change the amp modeles of the DT25 voices per your instructions above. I need to get the MIDI-to-USB cable first. 2. Do a factory reset of the HD500. This unit was also used and there seems to be some goofy settings on it that don't seem to follow the manual all that well. I figure I should start with a clean slate. 3. Figure out how to program the HD500 (using your suggetion for using the pre amp models and standard)
  2. Awesome guys, I'm making progress. The reset did almost everything I was hoping for. This amp head was used when I got. Now the two channels are acting as mirrors of each other including tone, eq, modeling and volume. So I'm in good shape. Having said that, the volume "bump" when using the Voice II (Brit P-75 Bright) is freak'en loud. But, now I'm onto the next challenge...I will hook up the used HD500 to it an add a new variable to the mix. Learning how to set the volume levels is going to be key for this rig to work right. Ultimately all I'm really going to need for this particular rig is a clean tone, the treadplate tone and the treadplate with a volume boost (for soloing). But it sounds like I do not have a problem with this amp head (after the reset) and that's wonderful news!!! Thank you!!!
  3. Hello all, any ideas about this "problem"? Is this normal behavior the DT25 amp head? This is what I'm noticing about the amp: all settings below are with Pentode, Class A. All EQ settings constant Channel 1, Voice I: sounds good and "normal as expected volume level"....no problem Channel 1, Voice II: same as above, slight change in tone as expected Channel 1, Voice III: Large increase in volume. It gets too loud as compared two I and II voives IMO. Is this normal operation? Channel 1, Voice IV: Even larger volume increase from Voice III. Same settings as above.... Channel 2, Voice I: has equal volume to channel 1, Voice I, but the EQ curve is definitely different. Sounds thin and tinny. Channel 2, Voice II: Significant volume boost from Voice I. Channel 2, Voice III: has a volume DROP from Voice II, but still a fair bit louder than Voice I Channel 2, Voice IV: seems slight louder than Voice III, but more closely matched Are othere DT25 users observiving a similar or identical characteristic? I would say the volume spike on on Channel 2 is the most troubling to me, but at the same time inconsistent volume adjustments are also a problem. I understand the volume should probably rise slightly for each Voice increase, but not so erratically or dramatically. The other problem I have is the tone shift from Channel 1 to 2. They should not change given identical settings. Thoughts??? Thanks!
  4. Hold the phone.... I did find something a little odd. The garbled audio I was hearing on my tablet was only evident when playing the music through the Amplifi App. If played the same song through my Win Amp App or the Google music app on the tablet, the sound was fine. I did some poking around the web and found other people have had this problem too, but not necessarily with the Amplifi App, but just in general. One person posted that you should check to see if the actual music file could be causing the problem. So, I removed my music SD card from the tablet, re-formatted it and copied all the music back onto it. Not the Amplifi Amp works fine when playing music. No more garbled audio. There may be a different way that Amplifi processes the audio and is more "sensitive" to the audio files. Maybe this is nothing at all, but for the moment, I'm good again!
  5. I'm not sure if the FX100 is part of it either. Never mind.... If you can delete this thread, please do. I'm not convinced its an issue that has anything to do with my Table Top or not. It may be unrelated.
  6. Hi. The audio coming out of my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Tablet is garbled and distorted. Most of the song is fine, but once its starts in, its hard to get it to stop. It wasn't always this way eirther and I have no idea what caused this or how to fix it. Its a strange sound that seems to play along side the real audio. You can still hear the song, just not through the garbage. This happens with blue tooth or without blue tooth. My Samsung phone is fine. Any ideas of what can fix this? Thx!
  7. How about the Table Top? Is this update good for the Table Top hardware?
  8. YES!! It is noticable.... When using the FX100/TT in the effects loop with a Tube Amp, you get the tone and feel of the tubes, and the AMPLIFi very cleanly lies on top of that. I think the AMPLIFi effects are best (modulation, delay and reverb), but the stompboxes are pretty good too. As for the amp modeling, I personally find all of the Marshall amps to be just “okay†(except for the 1992 Brit Gain J-900 Clean and Dist, which I find quite good) and all the other models to be very good. The Fender-type, Vox-type and boutique-type are excellent and sound really, really good. I think this is personal taste and would vary from amp-to-amp-to-amp. But yes, the tube amp sound of the Mesa along with the Line 6 AMPLIFi FX100/TT is an awesome combination. I think it’s the best of both worlds. To be honest with you, after using the AMPLIFi Table Top, I think I’d almost rather just get an M13 and forgo the amp modeling all together. If you think about it, why would you want to model something other than a Mesa amp with a Mesa amp? But it is fun to be able to do so. I think the Table Top is going to be more of a rehearsal tool used directly into the PA and powered speakers in the long run. But for home use into the Mesa, it's all fun and games!! I'm really happy with the sounds I can get. I just need to practice and play better!! My equipment is NOT the limiting factor; my fingers are :( . I’m curious about your AMPLIFi and Mustang III rig. What program do you set your Mustang too when using the Line 6 with it? I don’t see “NO AMP†as an option, so you must be using a very clean tone. Which one? Also, are you plugged into the effects loop or are you in front of the amp? Many thanks!!
  9. I mostly use my AMPLIFi Table Top and when I had the FX100 plugged into the effects loop of my Mesa Boogie. The sound is excellent. There are no issues at all with the sound quality. Just for fun I plugged the Table Top into the effects loop of my Line 6 Flextone III. It worked, it sounded ok but was a little weird using a modeling amp with modeling controller. I also have a Mustang III, but I have not tried using the Table Top in that loop as that too is totally redundant. I imagine it would be weird too. Generally speaking, you will get great results with the FX100/Table Top when plugged into an amp effects loop. The cleaner the channel, the better the results. Have fun!!
  10. UPDATE: So what started this thread was my problem saving to the Bank 1A location. If I moved or modified the default tone stored "out of the box" at the Bank 1A location, the Table Top would perminently lose the bluetooth connection with the app. The "Fidelity Rhythm" tone was essentally locked in place. The only way to fix the situation was to preform a reset of the Table Top. Anyway, I submitted a ticket to Line 6 and we went round and round on this for a while. Eventually they came to the conclusion that I have a problem with the actual unit and they want me to ship it back to them. Now I have to find a good time to ship is back. I'm in the middle of a project right now and it's not a very good time to be without. Too bad too because this is only a minor inconvience as ALL OTHER Banks and locations work prefectly. This is probably the most insignificant reason to ship a unit back, but what can I do? They were have been pretty good to me so far.
  11. I think the short answer to your question is to try everything. The part that concerns me is when you talked about the harsh sound coming out of the FX100. I have personally hooked up a FX100 into a PA and did not experience this at all. I would venture to guess the PA is causing this issue. I imagine your FX100 sounds just fine with nothing but headphones, right? Through a good PA and good set of speakers, it should sound just like your headphones (especially if the speakers have a SW). Getting back to your question about set up. I did hook up my FX100 using the Left/Mono to the board AS WELL AS using the Left and Right outputs to the board on their own channels. The stereo option definitely sounded better, but was only noticeable when using stereo effects like ping pong delays. There were a few cool modulations that sounded great. Having said that, the band I work with does not use a lot of that fun stuff, so it's easier to just use one channel and treat it like any other miced amp. I think the harsh sound you are hearing is coming from the PA setup. Make sure everything is flat, but I'm sure you've already done all that. I will say this...the FX100 IMO is EQed very flat. To me it sounds perfect as a starting point for recording. When you play it through an amp, which I'd say a majority of people do, you get an automatic "coloring" of the sound that the PA will not do. Maybe your ear is just very sensitive to that flat sound out of the PA. I would do this in the effect chain. Add a Boost + EQ pedal in the Stomp section and use it to set your EQ. Then do your normal tone set up and then use the EQ pedal towards the end of the signal chain and tweak to taste. If your PA and speakers are set correctly and in good condition, you should be able to get awesome results with the FX100. Same is true for the Table Top. Good luck!!
  12. That's exactly what came to mind as I was reading your post. Triryche may have got it. The monitoring could be on. If you monitor through the same speaker of headphones that you are playing through and there is even a tine bit of latency, you will get that weird sound. If this is NOT the cause of the weird sounds you're hearing, try reducing the output volume of your speakers when you're recording. See if that changes anything. Just curious, should have asked this before...when you hear the weird sound, does that weird sound actually get recorded? How do the recordings sound?
  13. Hi. Does your amp have an effect loop? If it does, I have my Table Top set up in a similar way that will work with your M9. I have a TC Spark Booster pedal hooked up BEFORE the TT/FX100, then a I have a Red Witch Chorus pedal hooked up AFTER the TT/FX100. This works out VERY well. I persoannly really like the TC Spark Booster and the Red Wich Chorus pedals, so I have them in the loop along with the Table Top. I've found the best position in the loop for these pedals is as described above. In your case, assuming you have an effects loop for you amp, plug the FX100 into the loop, then out of your FX100 and into the M9 and out of the M9 and back into the amp's loop. Now you have all the amp modeling if the FX100, but then you use your kick lollipop M9 for all your other stuff. Cool. It will work great. Let us know how is sounds.
  14. Try this: Go the the end of the preset list (Bank 26 I think). You should see USER 1, USER 2.. Select one of those and tweak it from scratch in a way that matches your settings from My Tones. This should not take too long to do (I hope). Then save that to the FX100 Hardware Then move it to a more appropriate Bank and slot (A, B, C, D) This should enable you to get the exact Tone you want in the the exact location that suits you. Let us know how it goes.
  15. Yeah. What he said.... When you hit the little "Disk" looking icon to save, you get two choices. The first one is save to my tones and the second choice is to save to the hardware. The second option will save that tone to the currently selected preset. Then, you will be able to call that tone up without connecting to the app. You nust nee to remember where you saved it. To help that, give it a uniqe name when you save it. Have fun.
  16. Well if the app doesn't work, you are absolutely right. That's a real problem. I just re-read your post, "connects with my phone, but the app losses data connection continuously and I cannot use it...." When I had the FX100, it was not particularly stable with the app. The TT has been much, much better with only occasional connection problems. This is a huge frustration. But it sounds like in your case its totally unusable, not just unstable. There have been several posts on this type of connection problem and Triryche has been very helpful here. I would try this first: 1. uninstall the app 2. remove the Bluetooth connection from your phone (unpair it and restart your phone) 3. do a reset on the TT (turn it off, then power it on while holding down the Tone button and the Volume button at the same time. Do this until you see the red volume lights come on). 4. reinstall the app on your phone 5. Try to reconnect the Bluetooth between the phone and the TT. I hope this works. Good luck!
  17. I can see how this might seem weird or be a problem. But to be clear, the tablet or phone via the app is NOT a required item once you've saved your perfect tones to the hardware. The app DOES NOT need to be connected at all times. In fact, I often use my TT without the tablet even powered on. In this case, I do not have "control" over the presets features, but so long as I stick to one of the four tones preset into Bank 1, I don't need the app connected. See the post I just submitted titled, "Can the AMPLIFi FX100 or Table Top be used for Live Performance? If so, which is better?" I explain how you can expand this "no-app" ability with the TT in more detail. When I use the recording feature, I'm also using a tone that's preset and saved. I may actually have the app connected to the TT, but I'm not even paying any attention to it. At that point I'm focused on the guitar, my crappy playing and the DAW on my laptop. So, maybe you're over thinking things a bit. To be clear, one you've found that perfect tone for your song and you've saved it, you're all done, the TT (or FX100) now becomes a hardware based tone generator like anything else on the market (POD HD500, Boss GT-001...). The app is only needed to create and tweak the tones and to change the Banks beyond Bank 1 on the TT (the FX100 can do this without the need for the app connection). Hope this helps.
  18. Can the AMPLIFi FX100 or Table Top be used for Live Permormance? If so, which is better? Here’s the quick answer: yes it can and the Table Top is the best option, but both have their caveats. If you’re interested in knowing what those are, read on. First of all, just so we’re all on the same page, I did own the FX100 for a short time and later returned it and held out for the TT. So, I have now owned and used both. Also, I primarily use the TT plugged into the effects loop of a Mesa Boogie Express amp and I use a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 NOTE tablet for the interface. I will also use the AMPLIFi plugged directly into a PA. This works extremely well for both the FX100 and the TT. So the answer is yes, the AMPLIFi FX100 and the TT can be used very effectively in a live setting, however, the use of the App and the Bluetooth connection is almost completely out of the question, in my oppinion. Well, it’s not that you can’t use it, but there’s so much risk you will be adding to your performance. It may not prove practical. One screw up could mean not being asked back to that venue. I just don’t feel it’s reliable enough to trust to a performance setting. Just me IMHO. But no worries, you’ll just have to save all your tones to the hardware. Easy! The connection with the app, being Bluetooth is sometime unreliable and it may work perfectly in your home or studio, but when on the road, that’s NOT the time to find out the walls of your next venue are made of non-insulated corrugated aluminum and wreak havoc on Bluetooth signals. There’s just too much that will and can go wrong in a live setting and the LAST thing you need to stress about is your Bluetooth connection. Also, the speed that tones can be selected via the App is very slow (on the order of 1 to 1.5 seconds). On the other hand, if your tones are all saved to the hardware, the delay is inconsequential. Ok, so now that’s out of the way, which is better for live performance, the FX100 or the Table Top? Ultimately, the answer is the Table Top, but hold that thought for one moment. Let’s first look at the FX100’s strengths and weaknesses. The FX100 is really not a true stomp box multi effects unit. It’s really just a box that stores preset tones that are ALL ON OR ALL OFF. This means, if you are in the middle of a song and it’s time for your solo, there’s no way to turn on your Tube Screamer or modulation or whatever you need for the solo. Not to worry, there’s a work around for that!! This essentially means that say, the first song in your set list might be saved on Bank 1, preset A. Then your solo settings would have to be stored onto Bank 1, preset B (identical to preset A with the addition of the Tube Screamer for instance). This method will work, but it will take a little more organization, note taking and planning on your part. But by all means doable. The FX100 will also give you access to all the Banks and all the presets just by using the AB or CD switches to move up and down within the Banks. That’s cool. The Table Top on the other hand will only give you access to one Bank and four presets (WITHOUT access to the app), but remember, we’re not going there. The tablet is at home and your phone it in your pocket!! In this case, the TT would be used identically as the FX100 would be described above. Bank 1, preset A and B would be for song number 1 in your set list. However, you're limited to only four different tones (again, hardware only, no app connected). This may be prefectly fine for your application. But the Table Top gets better.... Where things get really interesting is when you spend an additional $200.00 and also purchase the Line 6 MkII Shortboard (yes that sucks to have to spend more money, but read on...). The TT has the CAT 5 plug in to enable the use of this very good controller and when you marry the two together, you’ll end up with a very powerful tool that’s totally at home on stage. This essentially gives you a very similar level of functionality that the POD HD500x will give. Yes there are obvious differences such as the amp modeling and being that we left the tablet at home, you will not be doing any deep editing on stage, but really, who uses the HD500x on stage during a performance AND finds himself tweaking tones? The real advantage the TT has over the FX100 when used with a MkII Shortboard is that you have access to all the Banks and presets using your feet AND you have the ability to turn on and off any of the effects pre-programmed to the preset. Your initially saved preset should be how a song starts (no tube screamer for instance, unless the song starts with your solo). When it’s time for the screamer, just click it on with the Stomp switch and then off when you’re done tearing the aluminum sheets off the walls! Having said all this, the current going rate for new gear (the TT + MkII vs the HD500x) is a bit of a wash and it might be just a whole lot more practical to go with the HD500x, but the AMPLIFi series is unbelievably simple and intuitive even your drummer will be able to use it and dial in some pretty cool tones!! Ask him to dial in a great tone on an HD500x and you’ll see the smoke before long. I hope this long post helps you. Good luck!!
  19. Hi. Of those two options, I would lump it. Reason being is that new users would most likely head over to the AMPLIFi area. But this is up to you. Thanks. Adam
  20. You may be right, but being the TT didn't have its own and the FX100 and the TT are so similar, I think it still works. This is especially true when you couple the TT with the MkII Shortboard. I just tried mine and it is a superior option over the FX100 and that's something people in this forum might want to know about. I plan on posting my observations. But this is your forum. I go wherevere you open up business for the TT. Thx!!
  21. I totally agree with Triryche about using Power Speakers/PA with the FX100. Powered Speakers have no ability to "color" the sound like amplifiers do. Think of this way, you know how awesome the FX100 sounds when using it with just headphones? Well that's what your audience will think when they hear you play the FX100 through powered speakers. The better the speakers the better the sound. You can't go wrong. Then if you want to sing and play, you're already there. Just plug your mic into the speakers. Yes you'll want a mixer too. But that will be a great rig! Good luck.
  22. Here are two possible (and likely) bugs identified with the Table Top and App. For clarification, I am using an Android Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Note tablet and the Amplifi TT. Your system may not experience the following: 1) Per the instructions in the manual on how to save presets using the TT front panel, the process does not work. There is no work-around for this (using the front panel). 2) Saving presets using the App will work however, CAUTION: DO NOT SAVE OVER OR MOVE BANK 1 PRESET "A". If you save over or move the "Fidelity" tone from the original location of Bank 1 preset A, the Table Top will NOT sync to the App next time you turn it on. The process to correct this is as follows: 1. Uninstall the app 2. Reset the Table Top (no need to update the Firmware). Just do a reset. 3. Reinstall the App 4. Reconnect in Bluetooth Settings This bug may NOT be present on other Tablets or phones. I have not tried it on my iPad or my Samsung phone. Work-around: You may save new tones and move them around, just do not move the original Bank 1 preset A, and you'll be good. I moved my most used tones into Bank 1: B, C and D and just skip over "A" for now. Have fun!!
  23. This is a request to the administrator. Just a thought and I think it would be good :)
  24. royswan,Hold on. I think you are seeing the same problem I have that started this thread. When you "Saved to Hardware", did you by chance either change the original tone stored in Bank 1 preset "A" OR did you move a new Tone into that first slot? The first slot is called Fidelity something or other. It's a Marshall amp I believe. IF YOU MOVE OR SAVE OVER THE ORIGINAL BANK 1 PRESET A, the App and TT will stop functioning. I was going to post this in a new thread today. This is clearly a bug. Also, the process of saving tones by using the buttons on the front panel of the TT is also a bug. The process will not work and cannot be done (yet). If I'm correct and you moved the original Bank 1 preset A, the fix it easy, but annoying. 1. Uninstall the app then restart your tablet/phone. 2. While it's restarting, Reset the Table Top. The instructions are online. (Turn it off, then press and hold the Tone button and the volume button at the same time while you turn the TT back on. Keep the two buttons pressed down until you see the red volume lights come back on. Then let go. 3. By this point your tablet/phone has restarted. Reinstall the app and you'll be able to connect again. NEXT, create whatever Tone you want but move it to Bank 1 preset B or higher. Anywhere other than Bank 1 preset A will be fine. One more thing... When you save to hardware, you don't actually need the app to use the TT/FX100!! That's what's nice about moving your most used tones to Bank 1 (B, C and D--again, don't screw with "A" until this gets fixed!!). If you just turn on the TT/FX100 and your amp, you can play through those 4 tones without the need to connect to the app. In the case of the FX100, you'll have access to all the banks and tones WITHOUT CONNECTING TO THE APP. You won't be able to edit anything (except for Gain, EQ and Reverb via the front panel). But for a quick hop onto the amp with your guitar, its very nice. I plan on posting a new thread about the potential uses of this feature later. Good luck!!
  25. Okay forget that Preset problem. I have a bigger issue!! So, the saving of presets using the Tone button on the Table Top unit itself, and holding the button down for two seconds and all that stuff, just does not work. So, what I did was, I saved a preset to an open User Bank at the end of the list. I think it was Bank 25, preset A. That worked. Then I moved that preset all the way to the front of the list to Bank 1 preset A. This pushed the original "A" preset down and that's fine with me. Everything seemed just fine. Then I shut everything down and restarted the Table Top and Amplifi App and it’s been going haywire ever since. It will not connect, it cannot sync and I'm totally hosed. I'm thinking right now my only way out is a hard reset. It seems to me that the software/hardware is looking for the original saved preset that was in Bank 1 preset A. Because it's not there anymore, it’s confused. Has anyone seen this? Any ideas? Thoughts? Prayers...... Thanks!
