  1. does anyone know if it's possible to invert the polarity of a FS assign so it turns a block on as another goes off? I want FS1 to alternate between a synth and a distortion with a single stomp. I could assign the distortion to FS2 but then I'd have to stomp on both. On a BOSS GT10 or GT100 it's possible to assign a FS (labeled CTL) to latch in negative polarity, and another assign to latch in positive so in a single stomp, the FS turns the synth off while the distortion is turned on, and viceversa. what about assigning latching or unlatching (toggle or momentary), is that possible on the HD500X? is it possible to make the EXP pedal turn blocks on and off? thanks for the tip though, I can see how the EXP would work to disengage delays or synths in any alternation since those have a "mix" parameter that vanishes the effect at 0% (weather assigned to heel or toe). Nevertheless, I don't think it's possible to alternate a distortion block since none of those have a blend parameter.
  2. Btw, moving to the Helix would be my attempt to ditch all this analog and digital pedals, besides the dreadful heavy and hassling double pedalboards I'm lugging around:
  3. Seems simple enough! Thanks. That's worrisome. I'll recount more precisely: As far as harmonizer, I'd only add one. However, I'd need three pitch-shifters running at once, two going octave up and one going octave down. That's 4 FX blocks there. Furthermore, two fuzz/distortions, three amps, three compressors. Maybe one rev/delay/chorus and that's it as far as the three bass/guitar chains go: 13 blocks. Finally, on the vocal chain I'd be looking to replace my BOSS VE20 which runs simultaneously: a harmonizer, a limiter, a low-cut filter/eq, and a chorus/doubler; sometimes a delay. Let's assume no vocoder in this set-up. That be 5 additional blocks. All in all, I'd be looking at 18 simultaneous blocks. Just maybe: 20. Is That possible?
  4. oh wow, great! Sounds like serious flexibility. I do wonder about those FX blocks....
  5. Hi. I bought an HD500X a week ago. I was happy until I asked myself "dual chains are great ...but what about four chains? O_o". Enter helix. Can I process two guitars, one bass and a voice with it? I only need two ins: one 1/4 line and one mic XLR. I play bass split into three chains/outputs: one goes into a bass amp. Two go through an Octave-up & harmonizers into dual guitar amps. Sounds like White Stripes, Royal Blood and Black Sabbath put in a blender. Can I assign four chains and four separate outputs? Like this: XLR IN (mic) • CHAIN 1: VOCALS: doubler, vocoder, harmony, rev, limiter. Output: XLR (L) BASS IN (1/4 jack routed to three chains): • CHAIN 2: BASS SOUNDS: fuzz, comp, octave down, amp. Output: XLR ® • CHAIN 3: GUITAR L: octave up, harmonizer, dist, amp. Output: 1/4 (L) • CHAIN 4: GUITAR R: octave up, fuzz, amp. Output: 1/4 ® ALL OUTPUTS TO F.O.H. MIXER. Alternatively, is it also possible to have another three outputs to feed stage bass and guitar amplifiers? Maybe repurpose the headphone jack or the send/returns for this purpose?
  6. hadn't considered that route. Would it work despite setting the system outputs to Studio/direct? you're correct in that XLR to FOH/DAW is my priority. yeah, ditching amps entirely is feasible. I'm tired of unpredictable results when relying on venue amps, specially open air festivals (with low budgets). What worries me is that sometimes small bars or theaters don't have powerful enough FOH and stage monitoring to compensate for the additional load -vocal mics, synths, and then guitars on top of that-. Hence, why I'd prefer to utilize their amps for stage output, at the expense of consistency with the broadcast/recorded signal. Maybe I'm over-thinking this stuff...
  7. BTW, BOSS sells a quality EXP too, the FV500H which doubles as a volume pedal and expression, though it'd be out of your budget. The Earnie Ball VPJR 6180 250k is on sale right now on Amazon, $65, seems like the best option.
  8. Clever solution, it hadn't occurred to me. However, I can't use up the dual chain to split the amp simulator since stereo panning is intrinsic to my sound, I split harmonies, delays and modulations across the L/R field, can't do without that. Have you fiddled with the "1/4" out" switch on the front panel? do you know if it overrides the studio/direct output option on the system preferences (which presumably affects all the pod jacks)?
  9. Hi, Does anybody know if I can connect the HD500X to a PA mixer via XLR outputs while simultaneously feeding two amplifiers via 1/4 L/R jacks? The catch is this: I need the PA mixer signal with full amp/cab simulation while the lines goes unaffected (dry) into the amps. --------------------------------------------- Also, what's the purpose of the little switch on the front panel of the chassis (1/4" out: line/amp)? Line6 documentation is unspecific about it; Why would they add a hardware switch to the unit (to affect the 1/4 jacks only) when there's a setup option to assign a global output mode? does the switch work as an override?
  10. My mistake. I assumed that since all BOSS footswitches and expression pedals are universally compatible with every multi-FX unit they make, Line6 accesories would work similarly. You're right, the FBV isn't compatible with the HD500X.
  11. Volume or wah pedals don't work as controllers, only expression pedals (which don't have inputs or outputs but a TRS jack or cable) are compatible. I've used the Yamaha EP1, Boss FV5 and Ensonic CVP1, cheap on the used market yet effective for the purpose, except they are made of plastic. Line6 offers the EX1, which is kind of crappy. Sometimes I need to stand on the expression pedal while I do something else with my other foot so I moved to metal chassis alternatives. Earnie Ball offers an expression pedal for around 120 bucks. EHX developed a so called Next-Step EXP with no moving parts (a big flaw), it came bundled with a HOG2 synth pedal I bought recently and it sucks balls, it requires 9v current and that somehow interferes with the HD500X firmware, the screen starts blinking and garbling, go for a passive alternative.
  12. can anyone explain why the manual states the HD500X is compatible with the Line6 FBV6 controller? does it mean it adds four additional footswitch controllers besides the EXP2?
  13. my hopes are up. By the way, does the HD500X not have a toe switch?
  14. BTW, here's my floor setup. I use a VOX dual footswitch pedal plugged into the external EXP/CTL jack of the GT8 to assign MIDI functions and various effect on/off routing assigns. (this is an expansion to have 4 programmable footswitches on the GT8: there's the CTL, EXP FS and expanded CTL1 & CTL2 with the VOX).
  15. Well, I'm eager to try. here's a patch I made, do you think I'd be able to replicate this on the HD500X? The BOSS GT8 allows for up to 8 behaviors/commands assignable to either the EXP or 4 CTL footswitch routings. Furthermore, it allows you to split the full range of the base-to-heel movement of the EXP pedal, accurately divided by a span of 127 measurements where base is 0 and heel is 127. I split it so at base (from 0-to-1) a harmonizer would be in G major, from 1-to-126 it would change to D minor, and at heel (126-to-127) it would momentarily push the harmony voice from a 3rd to a 4rd. There's a hidden EXP heel footswitch (like in a Wah pedal) that I programmed to flip from OD to Fuzz when pressed. Also, When in OD the Harmonizer would be on, while in Fuzz it'd be off and the EXP would work as a gain attenuator (at base it'd be 20% gain and at heel 90% dirty). In total, I used 6 assign slots, all applied to the EXP (and EXP FS) alone. is the POD as flexible to program as the GT? Thanks for the heads up, I'm a bit disappointed. I thought maybe the AUX or other input jack could be assigned to receive FS on/off pulses.
  16. Hi, I've been a BOSS user for the past 10 years, mastering every aspect Of the GT MultiFX line. I'm in the process of transitioning to The HD500x to expand and experiment with the LINE6 workflow. I bought one already but it won't arrive until next week. I would like to know if it's possible to attach a dual footswitch. According to the manual, I can plug an expression pedal into the "pedal 2" jack, but I don't need another one besides the built-in EXP. In the past, I used to plug a BOSS FS6 via TRS cable to the "CTL1,2/EXP" jack of the GT8, allowing me to freely program parameters to either of the footswitch buttons (labeled CTL 1 and 2 in the system). The GT8 allowed me to assign modes: latching or unlatching –to operate as on/off for effects– or min/max for specific parameter jumps. I believe the POD allows similar functionalities with the top row switches; nevertheless, I would want to use the BOSS FS6 with the HD500X. Has anyone done this?
