  1. Thanks,DunedinDragon,as always very informative & easily understandable.
  2. Thanks,for the info,gentlemen.
  3. Hi,kpsion.I've copied the text below from your post above,i don't understand the 2 quotes(nothing unusual in that :) ),can you tell me what the 2 quotes mean, especially, quote B: Thanks. A : "to build a stoner grainy sound" B : "Now i think i've hit Active speaker input too hard (both preamp are at zero (between line and mic)"

    FRFR ?

Hi.leisure491.It went as good as i could have hoped,a build up of wax in the left ear, that somehow moved & blocked up the ear, then the right ear is solid with wax,so ear drops for 2 weeks then clearing out. Maybe I won't be as deaf as i think i am after it's done,we live in hope :) . Thanks for asking.

So,it's all my fault that old age is rife on the forum is it?i resemble that remark :D

Hi,DunedinDragon.I missed you post while I was typing mine,i have been trying to talk our Drummer(32)into trying V-Drums for that long i've given up. I wish Drummers(of all ages)would stop this almost neanderthal fixation on what is basically a stone-age instrument,if every Guitar & Bass player was still using 16th century tech with Guitars, where would Rock be today. I know the feels not the same,(like steel strings don't feel like Gut strings)so adapt :). As you probably read in my previous post,i've just realised something's suddenly gone amiss with my hearing, but at 32,our drummer also has hearing problems,so instead of getting rid of his Accoustic kit & Metal cymbals,he's started wearing industrial ear muffs :huh:which make his kit sound(to him) like planks of wood being hit with rolled up socks etc.,must be so much better than these V-Drums Oh to leisure491,the doctor thinks a build up of ear wax, which is being vibrated(or something with Bass & volume),so hopefully it will be cleared with irrigation  ,thanks for asking.

I think good YOUNG Bands with talented players are still out there, though they do tend to be(for the large part)in what is labeled as Metal,of 1 type or another & access to them is limited & specialised,a bit like every other generation of Rock & Roll/Rock music, though i do think that sadly, the main time for the masses access to Rock was the 60's,which built some massive reputations, which still exist today(sadly because i disliked most of the 60's stuff). But if you seek out modern Bands via the likes of TV metal channels, such as Scuzz/Kerrang etc & of course the best places, the established festivals(Monsters of Rock a.k.a. Donnington, etc)because there you can actually here the Bands perform as opposed to studio generated noises. For instance on Scuzz etc i watched Black Veil Brides lots of times & thought tripe, then on last years Monsters concert i watched them do 1 of the best sets of the weekend, along with Clutch(not young but they are compared to me),sorry to babble on again, but the talent is still out there, but you can't dismiss Metal, some of these kids are amazing players who have learned from previous generations & in lots of cases moved it on. I could go on forever, but that'll do for now :)

Absolutely, but having seen Sabbath in their prime at the Empire Liverpool in 78',i couldn't bring myself to watch them now. Serious comment, the real reason i don't /can't watch any of the Big Headliners anymore,i can't stand stadium events anymore & that's the only places you see them, although i did make an exception to see Queen with Adam Lambert last year at the Echo Arena Liverpool, had to go watch them after there televised NYE concert,i had to see Brian May & Roger Taylor, actually enjoying playing again, they had an obvious massive respect for Adam Lambert's treatment of the Vocals & it really worked. Sadly I'm quite a bit older than you & most of my teenage idols are long gone, though happily Chuck Berry & Little Richard, along with James Burton & Scotty Moore are still with us & not forgetting Don Everly :)

Slipknot,Alice cooper?? really?.Jim Root & co,would be most upset, incredible players. Green Day,surely started life thinking they where the Sex Pistols?,have turned into a great gigging Band(IMO) Again just my very humble opinion,Muse are currently right at the top of Gigging Bands, amazing. Alice in Chains, yes,i just plonked down a few Bands quick, but you get my drift.

Well, have you guys, not even moved on from the 70's at all :) . The following are not exactly teeny bopper, fresh face'd anymore, but what about Muse. Slipknot. Linkin Park. Foo Fighters. Avenged Sevenfold. Green Day. Nirvana. Sound Garden. Paramour. to name just a few. I thought i was a dinosaur,i don't feel quite so bad now :D ,even if my ears are full of wax.

    FRFR ?

Hi,in my last post,i said i was stepping back from FRFR,(i started the thread because i just couldn't get anything like a sound,i could consider gigging with). I am now apologising to the members who have spent time & effort replying to my comments. On Saturday i did my 1st gig since starting the thread & as soon as we started our sound check(amateurish),i realised that something has gone wrong with my hearing,i can't describe it very well, but the Bass frequencies are going in/out,sort of like a phasing issue & my Guitar amp that normally sounds thick, full & ploddy, sounded like a transistor radio,i don't know what's has happened, but somethings gone wrong, hopefully i'll find out at the Doctors Today. I'm really sorry to have wasted your time. Old-Rocker(now deaf as well) :(

Aha,had a pair of La'Scalas for a while used them with an Audio Research Pre(SP8)& a big Musical Fidelity A 470,loved them & an Oracle turnable, the good old days :) . With the system i have now i din't think i have an impedance issue(but i'll check it out),thanks. I will keep at the FRFR,i don't want to keep the Orange, stumbled across it at the right price & the last of my pair of Cube 60's had died,so i bought it,but long term,i don't want to get back into valves.

H,Pianoguyy.Further back in the thread,i did talk about putting the 500X through my hi-fi(stereo)system,in fact it was when i played 500X through my hi-fi, it sounded so bad useing the Amp Models, that it made the decision for me to give it a rest for awhile. I'm not one to give glowing accounts of my possesions, but the hi-fi is probably as near to a Flat Response playback system you would find in a home stereo, even if i do say so myself :) . With reference to useing the 500X through the Orange,i use it virtually as a Pedal board,j'm just useing it in 8 pedal(what i call manual mode),with a mild gate 3 levels of the L6 drive & mild compressor & a dealay & reverb(which i have no clue how to set up) :D & a thing called a Script Phase & 1 amp FULL AMP MODEL,that i can just switch on & off, like the other pedals,i've set the output to studio direct & the amp/line switch set to Amp,i'm glad i typed this i've just remembered i've left the Global EQ switched on,needs to be off. :) . So i'm not doing any real patch building, till i find what i'm doing wrong with my FRFR attempts. Cheers, thanks for posting.

    FRFR ?

Hi,again,i've decided to step back from the FRFR trials for a while, before i have a breakdown :) . I've been talking to our old Audio/Electronics engineer,we've had some thoughts & kicked a few ideas/opinions around & it's got his interest so he's going to do some measuring & have a think about maybe building a cab to suit it,but he's like me old & slow,so in the meantime i'm going to use the Orange with 500X drives etc & i'm going to start learning about how to use effects(delays etc)so i'll be popping up somewhere on the Forum mithering about that, just not sure which section. Genuine thanks for all the advice/opinions/expertice i've been given in this thread. I'll sign off by saying i still don't understand why i'm struggling with the Amp Models,i still think i should just be able to take a given model, plug it into a decent FRFR speaker & get a usable sound(with a mimimum of tweaking),like i could with the Amp the Model is replicating. Cheers,Old-Rocker.(Very :D )
  16. I know i'm off topic(again),but i sold mine last year,i bought it new sometime in the 80's,but got fed up with the whole rack use for gigging, hadn't used it for over 10 yrs,so it's gone, along with a Bixonic Expandora pedal,i never used, only mentioned that, because i think it's the best name for a piece of gear ever :) ,oh,& also because Billy Gibbons used 6 of them, allegedly still does.

Guys, thanks.Once again lots of good points & advice, very good point silverhead,i'm going to try & track down somebody who's using FRFR,for their on-stage sound,so i have some idea what to expect. Dunedin Dragon.I have no idea what i'm getting wrong, but somethings up,maybe silverhead is right & i just have no idea what i'm listening for, although i still think it should sound good, even if it's not what i expect.

    FRFR ?

Hi,Dunedin Dragon. Thanks for sticking with me on this. I'm trying to grasp why i'm having such a hard time making the Amp Models sound good through our PA,when at the same time i know it plays back recordings of all sorts, really well. So in view of this have been writing a response which was turning into a book, but luckily as i was righting,i remembered a saying from one of my former lives. now at the same time you read this bear in mind that we all blame somebody else for our shortcomings(specially me :) )so,this is my excuse for my miserable failings. "if you put lollipop in you get lollipop out" I'm saying this very tongue in cheek, but right now,it's my excuse.I'll now await the very deserved flack.

    FRFR ?

I'm still at it with my attempts to get an Amp Model, that i could gig with without my Guitar amplifier, sadly nowhere near :( . All i'm trying to emulate is a good amplified Guitar sound,no effects whatsoever, just the Amp Models, but i'm still getting a way better sound from the Orange Rocker & using the 500X for adding to the Combo sound(mostly drive),the good news is i'm getting a much better sound using the 500X drive pedals into the Natural channel, than i am from the "DIRTY" channel without the 500X,i hope i'm explaining this ok. I'd started to think maybe it's the DSR115's that i'm struggling with, but at live practice last night i tried micing up the Rocker 30 into the full PA Tops & Subs,it sounded really good(we don't normally mic the Guitar Amp),so i'm assuming if i'm getting a good mic'd sound.i should be a able to get a good direct Modeled sound, because the Modeling is simply taking the place of the Orange/Mic feeding into the PA system,is this correct?. I'll keep at it,but it's not ideal trying to set it up at home, even at reasonable volumes,we'll see,i'm not into giving up easily. I have to add this,if i buy any given Guitar Amp(of my taste)after a few knob tweaks i could gig with it. i don't really understand why,if i load the same Amp model into the 500X,i don't get at least a usable sound. Line 6 must play these models through various types of Amplified playback & think yes that's a good start, the customer can go from there,so,maybe/possibly/almost certainly.it's just me. I still find the EQ models & the controls, don't function in a simple enough way'. But much more important than all this, leisure 491 ,i wish you all the best.

Thanks, for the reply,i have to admit i'm struggling A LOT with this frequency issue, however my take on the Peter Hanmer video is,he was showing how to isolate a particular frequency band,& then reducing the Gain until the frequency blended better in the overall Amp Model sound,i didn't read it as cutting any frequencies above a certain level(e.g.6.5K),but as i said i'm struggling,to the point where i'm trying to get my thoughts together to ask the Forum some questions & to put my thoughts/views on the whole subject FRFR/AMPS/AMP MODELS,i'm not sure about tagging it in this thread or start another thread. Glad the dentist trip went ok,i agree about the limiting the time on sessions, this EQ question is frying my Brain & it dosen't take much nowadays. I have never ever used effects in terms of Delays/Modulation etc,the only thing i've ever plugged into my Amps in the past is a GE7,but i can see that changing.

    FRFR ?

I've done some tweaking with the Global EQ,yes better thanks,i have no idea what the frequency range of the Model Amps are,but it sounded like if i cut it at 6.5k,it was an improvement i could hear, does that sound anywhere near right,i'm really not used to these sort of adjustments on a Guitar sound. The video is brilliant,i can't make it happen like Peter does, but i suspect he's knows his way around this stuff, just a little bit more than me :D ,if i'm reading it right he identified 2 problem areas & cured them with 2 parametrics?,funny his playing style is a bit like mine, except he's good, very good. Thanks, guys for your help.

Ok,guys.i give up,where do i find Global EQ :) IGNORE FOUND IT THANKS I think old & slow is relevant here :D

I thought the Global EQ was only available when Combo Front is selected?,or is it available on Studio/Direct.?

    FRFR ?

Hi,Dunedin Dragon.I'm going XLR out direct to XLR(with Mic selected) on the DSR,D-Contour is always off,i've tried HPF filter both in & out,i'm not using our Mixing desk so there will be extra gain from the Channel available, but i don't think level is the problem,i suspect it's the frequency range,i'll have to try & get to grips with it. Ok,thanks i'll watch it,i think i may have watched a video of his on YT, Good luck,i'd rather than try & get the eq sorted out on the 500X than go to the dentist, but i'm lucky nowadays,i can put my top teeth in a jar(after an accident) :D

    FRFR ?

To be honest, the EQ parameters of the 500X have me completely confused,(i think i said this in a previous post),this may be my real problem with using it. I have no idea where i'm at with the various EQ models. I'm completely lost with the values being in %,plus,i don't understand how to interprate the controls on the Parametric model.
