  1. Hey guys, I know there is a plethora of threads about 4CM on here, but my question is amp-specific. I plan on buying a Mesa Boogie Triple Crown TC-50, and I'd like to run it into the helix. It's not really going to be 4CM the way I want to do it, because I'm going to go Guitar > helix input > pre-amp fx > send 1 instrument level into TC-50 > TC-50 line out into Helix return 2 at line level > IR, followed by any other fx > out to studio monitors or L3M. I dont usually put fx between the amp and cab, which is why I'm running it without the amp's fx loop. So long story short, I'd like to know if anyone has come across any ground loop issues, or unbearable noise floor levels, running the TC-50 this way? And if I come across a ground issue, what is a decent solution box that doesnt cost an arm and a leg, and where in the chain would I place it? Sorry for the long explanation, but thanks in advance! Oh and in case you don't know the Triple Crown, it has a built in load box with an unaffected line out, which is why i will be running it this way. Cheers!
  2. Really excited for the B7K! Just tested out the IR pack, and they are great! I still prefer my OwnHammer IR's though. Thanks, L6!
  3. I just threw together a short hard rock/metal mix, using the SM57 3_center IR, and a couple of the tone shaping ones. It gives a great cutting tone for metal. I forgot to mention in the description, I'm using the "Line 6 Fatality" amp in the demo. All guitars are completely unprocessed (No eq, compression, etc.) Close to the ens, I solo the left guitar, to showcase what it sounds like individually. Great job, Jim! Thanks again for allowing us to test your IR's. I love them, and there are plenty of sounds for almost anything you can throw out there. https://soundcloud.com/behold-the-underdogs/jim-rosenberry-mesa-ir-tone-test/s-HYWJM
  4. I emailed you (timmsie1995@gmail.com) of you're still looking for input!

    Future of Helix

It's been said quite a few times here, but I'll say it again. It may have tons of amp models, but at the end of the day, I use a Dual Rec, a 5150, a JCM 800, and an AC30, 98â„… of the time. dometimes a fender, but they are all amps I already had before I got the helix. So even though it has so many options, you probably will find yourself gravitating to the same few amps every time.
  6. Great, thanks! I've only used my Helix in the studio since I got it, but I'm going to be gigging pretty soon, so I'll need to get one.
  7. Hi, would anyone be able to tell me if the "Variax Digital Interface Cable" works for connecting the Helix Rack to the Helix Control? I assume it does, but I don't want to buy it unless i know it will. It just looks sturdier than the included ethercon cable. http://store.line6.com/variax-digital-cable.html Thanks for any help!
  8. It's also worth noting, if you didn't already know, the input block on your helix should be set to the same output that the track in your DAW is set to.
  9. To clarify, I didn't mean to re amp at the same time as recording. And if rather have the Helix run through the Clarett because it makes workflow a bit more streamlined. I know I can hook up the way I described, I'm just not sure if sending the DI at like level into the helix will give me the right levels.
  10. If you're looking for that kind of sound, put the input gate around -77 db and 100 ms Then have a tubescreamer with level between 7-10, gain between 0-1, and tone between 2.5-6.5 Then get our your PV Panama with the gain around 6-7, bass between 3-6, mids around 4-7, highs around 5-6, presence and resonance to taste, I usually have them both around 5-6. Channel volume up (7-9), master volume down (3-6), and put the bias around 3.5 and sag around 0-1.5, but that's personal taste. They should get you damn close. Also, i highly recommend OwnHammer's IRs. I have the Heavy Hitters pack, and the IRs I use 90% of the time is the Mesa "V30+H30" cab, and I use MDRN-01,-02, or -03 most of the time. The MDRN mix is miced with an sm57 and an md421. And if you want the really percussive quick mutes like periphery, Mark Holcomb uses a hard gate in front of the amp. Experiment with the open and close times. If you follow this patch, you should be golden.
  11. So I've had the Helix for about 6 months now, and I've been recording with the Helix USB port, because my old audio interface wasn't that great. I'm going to be buying a Focusrite Clarett 8Pre X because I'm getting more into my home studio. I was wondering if I can run the Helix through it like this: - Helix XLR L & R outs into channels 3 & 4 (for example) on the interface. - Guitar Thru on Helix Rack into DI box (then into the interface) or High Z input on the interface. - Aux out 3 (for example) on the interface, into fx return 4 on the Helix. I would then use the three tracks to record my stereo amped tone and a DI track, then send the DI back into the Helix, using FX Return 4 at line level, as the input, and then re amp to my liking. My main concern is that I'm not sure if I can send the track back into the Helix the way I described. Any help is much appreciated!
  12. I know this is a fairly old topic, but just yesterday, on my Helix Rack, the joystick started acting funny. I can push to select, and move up/down/left/right fine, but scrolling is the issue. It works about 40% of the time, if I'm holding it in the right position, but sometimes it works like normal.. It's weird... I was really hoping I wouldn't have to send it in, but it's looking like I will. :(
  13. This is the best news I've had all day... The day started off with me having to return one of my brand new studio monitors because there's an issue with the tweeter connections. But now my day is alright!! Finally, thank you! :D
  14. He also did an interview with them at NAMM or somwthing similar, it's on the line 6 youtube page, and he says he has replicated most of his tones in the helix and uses it all the time.
  15. Alex Lifeson uses a G-Force and Hugges & Kettner amps, and Pete Thorn uses the Helix and Suhr amps, so yeah, endorsements mean nothing and OP's argument is invalid.
  16. I know about the 4CM and everything, but I'm wondering if I can use the "Slave Out" on my Mesa, and use a helix Cab block? I would run an effects send on the helix into the input of the amp, and then the Slave out would go to the return on the helix. Would this work, or would it be too harsh sounding? I would keep a cab connected to the mesa, but the volume would be down most likely. I'm just thinking for recording. This way, I'm using my FRFR to get the sound, but using the mesa as a preamp.
  17. Can i use the xlr input on the helix with the xlr out on my G90 wireless without changing the gain settings in the g90?
