Thanks for the tips, and for the confirmation that it kind of actually IS in there. However... - While it's true that real guitar speakers don't reproduce up to the 20kHz the Hi Cut filter goes to, neither (I assume) do Helix's cabs, so no "extra" roll-off should be needed. - I tried that anyway, and it takes some of the top end off the unnatural distortion, but the distortion is still there. It also costs in presence. - And I take it back, lowering the Master down to 6.0 gets rid of some of the distortion, but by no means all. It still doesn't sound "great". I do love the Matchless, and the Twin, and some other heads, but part of the fun and versatility of modelers is the ability to use a bunch of different virtual gear, each with its own vibe, capabilities, and tendencies. It's a drag when some of it just sounds kinda crap. If it was a real amp, I'd return it and try another unit, and if that didn't work, I'd return it for real. Don't misunderstand me, I'm having a lot of fun with Helix in general, playing a lot, staying up too late, blowing off chores, the whole nine yards. I even really like the overall sound of this patch, a lot. But when I listen to that amp in detail, there's that artificial-sounding buzz to it, really puts a damper on the thing. It interferes with the joy of it, and not to be pretentious, it offends my sense of craftsmanship. Line 6, if there's any way to clean that up, whether it's true to life or not (which I doubt or they wouldn't be so highly regarded), I say go for it. If there are concerns about backwards compatibility, then either provide a v2 model, or better yet, a V1/V2 control.

I was hearing some unnatural buzz on the top end of a patch I was working on using the Interstate Zed amp and cab. Figured out that turning the Master down gets rid of it, then it sounds great. I really doubt the actual amp sounds like that when you push it. It has no master volume, so maybe that's where the modeling went astray, maybe? Has anyone else noticed that?

Hey, presets aside, nice playing, and not just the solo stuff, your backing behind the singer is very tasteful and cool. Nice work. Just out of curiosity, what kind of guitar is that? Doesn't look familiar.

In my case, Helix was not connected to a computer when this happened. When it is, not super common lately, it's Windows 7 Pro x64.

Any plan to make that possible at some point? Doesn't seem a likely inherent limitation.

Had my first real crash in Helix yesterday. It still processed sound normally, but the whole UI was completely unresponsive, footswitches and other controls. Rebooted and it was fine, though it didn't remember the patch I was on like it usually does. I was in the models list, choosing a different effect for an existing block, like I've done a million times before and since without problems. Is this a thing? Since I wouldn't expect to be editing much live, it's not a huge concern, but it's a tad worrisome. And just to be clear, outside of that one time, Helix has been completely stable for me.

I'm certain I've seen this answered here, but I can't figure out what to search for. As saved, this patch has a some verb on it, and a delay that's off. I have a footswitch set up to turn the delay on and the verb off, but it keeps ending up with the footswitch light on when the delay is off, opposite of what I want. I think of it as turning ON the delay, it should be lit when that's ON. As I recall, it's about the order of assignments, and which effects are enabled when you make the assignments, but I didn't get how I want it after trying various things like that. What's the magic sequence of actions? (Seems like a handy tip to have on Helix Help too, FWIW.) Thanks.

Just cut to the chase and hire Sean Costello from Valhalla to do a few :) AFAIK, he hasn't worked with this kind of processor, but his knowledge and practical experience writing great-sound real-world performing reverb algorithms would be invaluable.

Not super helpful maybe, but specifically no, I'm not, works fine.

That's what I meant.. In my example, click once to get calm distortion, again for face-melt, again, turn it back off. Not sure what the UI for setting that up would be like though. While we're talking UI, shoutout for the Helix UI in general, just really awesome. Most things I want to do all the time, and that's a bunch, have some super handy way to get there. Really fluid to work with. Lots of thought and user testing went into this. There's really nothing else like it. Great work, L6!

Is there any way to have a single footswitch toggle between 3 states, meaning 3 different sets of enabled and disabled blocks, and/or 3 sets of parameter settings? Like for instance, for a distortion block, between disabled, enabled and relatively tame default settings, and enabled with face-melt drive and level settings? My guess is no, just thought I'd ask instead of assuming that.

Not a Variaxe guy, don't know much about htis or how good a deal it is, but here you go... Line 6 Variax JTV-69S Electric Guitar with Single Coil Pickups Black Maple Fingerboard http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/line-6-variax-jtv-69s-electric-guitar-with-single-coil-pickups/h90033000002002

Hmmm, true, weird. I'm sure I checked there, but maybe I was confused about which footswitch I was dealing with and nothing was assigned to the one I was looking at. Thanks.

So, related, kinda... Is the only way to customize the scribble strip for a footswitch that only changes parameters to temporarily assign it to turn a block on and off, hit Customize from there, then remove the block on-off assignment? I can't find any other path to that Customize screen for that case.

Thank you again for all your explorations and efforts here. Will check this out when I can. I have to say, outside of this version which I haven't heard yet, I'm getting happier with Helix :). The Mark III patch I uploaded has continued to evolve, still w the original IR you made for me, and it's pretty cool. To me, Helix isn't perfect sonically. I hear various digital sounding artifacts in different situations. But overall, it sounds good, and the UI is super easy and fluid to use, really pleasant in comparison to pretty much anything.

Thank you, sorted :)

I had an idea to a 'Higher' footswitch, which jacks up a bunch of unrelated footswitchable blocks, regardless of what they do, or what parameter(s) need to be changed how. I've got it set up and working fine, but I can't figure out how to edit its scribble strip text. I have another footswitch that toggles two blocks at once (no controllers) where I was able to change its scribble lable, but either I don't remember how, or it's different when parameters are assigned to the footswitch, not blocks, or when parameters from multiple blocks are assigned, or something. When I try to edit it, it seems to be cycling through the labels for the single-assignment footswitches that toggle the fx the Higher switch is supposed to turn up, not the label for the multi-controller switch. If it's not clear what I meant by that, I'll try again. So remind me, how do you edit the scribble strip for a footswitch with multiple controller assignments?

I've been wondering about this, haven't tried it, so excuse the ignorant questions Does a setlist contain the settings for the actual patches themselves, or is it only an ordered list of patch names? So for instance, can you have the same patch in more than one setlist, so updating it in any setlist updates it everywhere it's used? If you export a setlist, does that back up all those patches, or do you also have to save them as patches?

Haven't tried this in Helix, but the Amplitude verb enhancement workaround I sometimes use is to put two in series. The first one can be thought of as a pre-diffuser, adds density by multiplying the reflections in play.

That's good to know. Wonder why my situation's different. Need to try that reinstall.

TBH, some of the Helix demos I've heard (incl Sean's) have way too much of that flub for me, too much bottom hitting the overdrive stages. I often put an EQ as the first block, pulling low end, often adding some upper mid. I'll sometimes run the amp low end control pretty low too. Then after the amp, I'll add another EQ, boosting back some of the low end, but post the distortion stages where it flubs out. I use that strategy a lot in Amplitube too, not just Helix. I posted both Amplitube and Helix patches like that in another thread. Re picks, funny to see someone else using Jazz IIIs, I've used them for years, love 'em, didn't think they were that popular. I also used stone picks for a while a lot time ago, not that brand, but I kept hearing these little high-pitched chirps from the pick being kind of like a mini-bottleneck on the strings. They are a whole other level of stiff though, and have a wonderfully fully sound outside of the chirps.

Thanks. I have noticed that sometimes the output dropdown is enabled when the input one isn't. But I don't understand why any of them are disabled ever, or why they don't always show all installed drivers. In particular, how can the Focusrite be the system sound output, and work, and Amplitube not see it at all? The part of this that Helix related is that I never had any of these issues until I installed the Helix driver. I use both a Focusrite 2i2 and 18i20, and never had any of this weirdness.
