  1. Howdy, New to Variax/Shiruken. When playing a plucked harmonics on the 12th, 9th, 7th, and 5th frets, an odd and unattractive warbling occurs when using the 1970 Martin model. For example, imagine playing the into to Yes' 'And You And I'. Every time you pluck a harmonic, the note you are intending to gets scooped into from the note below kind of like the way a singer scoops into ascending notes while searching for the right note to sing. That's what the 1970 Martin 12 string does when harmonics are plucked on it. Any remedies for that? Thanks for your wisdom and knowledge, MM
  2. Anyone here have any insight on how to generate any of the powerful yet clean sounding tones (lead or comp) that Greg Howe achieved on his early 90's album Introspection with the L6 Helix? I have to say that I haven't heard anything before or since that album that has ever sounded so clean, sustained and powerful while at the same time sounding fizzless and free of super high gain. The lead tones he achieved on that album IMO make even Allan Holdsworth's lead tone sound on the highly saturated side. Thx

  4. Thanks for all the assistance. It worked perfectly. I'm j u s t a l i t t l e s l o w s o m e t i m e s. I'm one of those morons who, if things are not spelled out with perfect absolute clarity, I'll screw it up. https://molchmon.bandcamp.com/album/american-death-star
  5. Got it. Never mind. I'm an idiot. Please ignore. Thanks for the help. MM
  6. Aha! Thanks so much for the help. Is it possible to update the editor only and not the Helix Rack (which appears to have updated successfully)?
  7. Howdy All, Just updated to Helix Rack 2.11. All is well except for one slight issue: the new amp models are not populating in the PC editor. The Archetype Clean, Lead and Litigator populate in the Helix device's display, but not in the editor. Any suggestions? Thanks, MM
  8. Thanks spikey and silverhead. Very encouraging. I'll make and post some unmastered Cubase recordings of the Helix next week, as embarrassing as that might be - I'm anticipating a pretty crude output. Hopefully through the process more will be learned. Thank you for the links.
  9. Thanks for all of the (mostly) encouraging replies, gentlemen. I apologize for the what appeared to be trollish nature of the OP. I didn't realize it would generate such a huge response. I understand that complicated things like the Helix take a while to get familiar with. I'm have no problem stating that my own user incompetence is a possible cause for my initial dissatisfaction with the unit. I've had PODs in the past and even the HD didn't seem to be as temperamental as the Helix. I managed to squeeze some decent tones from it (molchmon.bandcamp.com) and expected the Helix to just totally blow it away immediately. Perhaps time is all that is needed here - I'm willing to dig if I know I'll find gold. Based on these replies, it sounds like there definitely is some to be found. And also based on the enthusiasm towards the Helix seen here and elsewhere, it's possible that you are right now reading a post written by technologically stupid person. That being said, here's the (fairly simple) rig run down: Fender Strat HSS Shawbucker (or SSS) or an active pick up Carvin DC200--- Line6 Helix Rack 2.0 from both rear XLR outputs--- Into both XLR inputs of a Focusrite 2i2--- From Focusrite 2i2 via USB into a Windows 7 i7 Cubase 8 PC 32GB RAM--- M Audio Bx5 powered monitors--- Human ear canal. I set the Helix's global EQ according to some recommendations from this forum and adjusted the outputs according to the pdf manual. Thanks for the replies, MolchMon
  10. Just curious, since I saw quite a few (about fifty) glowing five star reviews about the joys and wonders of Helix on Sweetwater's website, is anyone else here as unimpressed and underwhelmed with the Helix as I am? If this unit were half as much $ as it is, I'd be inclined to tweak a little further and suffer through the seemingly never ending list of mediocre sounding amps, cabs, etc. But for the price, it seems to be quite the toil and not even slightly worth the enormous effort one must put forth for zero pay off. Am I alone on this?
  11. Line 6 Updater 1.09. Just downloaded it last night.
  12. Hello All, Helix Rack noob here. For whatever reason, the Helix rack will not connect to my PC via USB (Windows 7/Core i7/Cubase 8/32GB RAM) or be recognized by the Line Updater. I have tried plugging the USB cable into the rear USB port as has been suggested in previous posts. This was (and continues to be) met with extreme futility. Any wise suggestions that would remedy this most unfortunate situation would be enthusiastically read and eagerly anticipated. Closing salutations, MolchMon molchmon.bandcamp.com
